@@LymmarThe early Heian to Kamakura era tachi's were heavily curved and fairly narrow but by the late Kamakura and Muromachi period (after the Mongol Invasions) the Tachi became less curved and wider and eventually this evolved into the Uchigatana/Katana (I'm really oversimplifying it but that's sort of how Tachi's developed)

yes, though the biggest reason the katana prevailed is it was mean to be carried casual near every where. Tachi is like a European dress officers sword, more regal and not something you can just slip into your day belt.

You're correct Tachi are a little bit longer than uchigatana but they're more curve and were used on horseback back in the day. A nodachi is basically the short greatsword while the Odachi was basically Big greatsword( The O meaning big) . Now with that said, in my opinion what that person is using is basically a nodachi. The reason why I said that is cause uchigatanas were around 3 shakus which basically 35 to 39 inches long (Including handle) while the nodachi or Odachiwas around 40 inches plus( since there isn't a exact length for what I looked considering that some said that they were 59 inches and above others said that they're from 40 plus) with that being said and again in my opinion I would say that can be qualified as a Nodachi

Pulled this from a forum somewhere, but I don't have access to the source (Source: The Sword and Same by Henri Joly 1913). 1623- Tokugawa Iyetada prohibited commoners from wearing sword to avoid brawls (the tachi was called O Wakizashi at this time). 1640- Tokugawa Iyemitsu prohibited the attendants of Samurai from carrying tachi. 1670- Tokugawa Iyetsuna issued a regulation making the length of tachi 2’8”, and O Wakizashi 1’8”, and anyone carrying a longer sword was liable for punishment. 1683- Tokugawa Tsunayoshi reiterated the prohibition to common people to wear a long sword, but allowed them to carry a tanto; musicians and artists, even when of the Samurai class, were debarred from carrying a big sword. 1789- It was established that any sword exceeding 1’8” be termed Naga Wakizashi, and anyone carrying such a sword was liable to punishment. Later, the length was reduced to 1’5”.

A la guerre on s'en fou d'être touché on se bat pour une cause plus grande que soi (surtout chez les asiatiques) donc c'est tout l'inverse, on rentre comme un bourrin, pas grave, si on est touché tant qu'on découpe l'adversaire violemment

It is common knowledge in the West that that company is known for its lack of safety. Its polypropylenes are too rigid to thrust safely and too forward-weighted to cut safely or be realistic. Their steel blades are known for poor quality control and heat treatment and are known to snap when clashing against other steel blades. Not all Tachi has excessive curvature. Some has very low curvature to the point it's almost straight. The difference is the size and the mounting, nothing else. It's like saying no katanas are supposed to be this or that, no, it all depends on the smith and how the customers wanted that sword to look like

Japanese are better than Koreans at these martial arts... No Kenjutsu, no Iaido, you are fighting like european knigths.
