u can't attack those types of players. must incorporate flat and heavy under spin and flat ball attack. they love playing loopers. long pips will eat your loops for breakfast :)

12:09 finally gives a good look at his serve. He seems to get them a lot with a mimicking choping motion when it must be dead. Thus they push it long. Also with his very next serve he seems to show or make you think he will either serve with the short pips or long pips side. Wish they gave better looks at this.

yes it is right, a friend of mine who used to play with him, told me that he is no very good player, but his serves are completly amazing

looks like DHS Cloud and Fog 3 which is perfectly legal...

The old man is easily over 60 and he is pretty much a self taught player. A bunch of keyboard warriors don't get the point.

He uses a non-ITTF long pips.... that helps a lot even though he is quite a lp player.

The umpires are obviously not qualified umpires, as there's multiple issues with serves by the guy in red. He does not have the ball on the palm of the hand before throw up. He has the ball in his hand face down when he throws up. The throw is over and not behind the base line (over the table)

I am confused with these people in the comments. Illegal pimples? This video looks like it was from way back in the 90s hence those could still be legal at that time. Illegal serve? The rules were different back then, and quite frankly nowadays even zjk and ma long's serves have questionable serves for the current rules.

This is awful to watch. Just as they strike the ball on service, they switch cameras. The easiest way to be a long pips player, is to use a hard rubber bat (short pips no sponge)

What exactly isn't legal? Wiping the ball on the front of his trousers? ;) It's certainly not his bat, we don't get a close look at it, and I don't see any hidden serves, either. Excellent bat flipper.

There are some in here where the ball goes below the table and some where it doesn't start from an open palm, though - the crowd look bored rigid - this is what they do to our beautiful game !

His opponent is not complaining, why you complain about it? In his age Table Tennis serve only need to throw 5cm above hand. You are too young.

***** I too was a penhold, I felt lack of power in my back hand would you believe in late 80's I experimented on putting a rubber on my backhand side they all laughed at me for using back hand on penhold.

legal or not, you can clearly see not much of hardwork is needed when you can just stick a LP on one side of bat. Boring game with no appeal to the crowd. Sports isnt just about winning.

Doesn't matter what I say about him, and doesn't matter if I'm better than him. The truth is he will not be permitted to join competitive tournaments due to his serve and his rubber. And just so you know I trained with former professionals since I was a kid and I try to play as fair in games as possible. And let me ask any player that somewhat knows what they are doing and they'll all tell you how much they hate long pimps, which has been banned from large events such as WTTC and the Olympics since the 90's.

Wow.. that's news. Long pips "banned since the 90s"? Look on the ITTF list of approved rubber, there's dozens of long pips available. Lots of people play with long pips in international tournaments. Joo Se Hyuk plays with long pips. Now, certain TYPES of long pips aren't on the list - those are "illegal". But that's a different story.

Learn the facts mate. None inverted rubbers are allowed such as ones Liu guoliang and Wang Tao used to use. But the length of the pimps is restricted. They can't be longer than a certain length, and by the returns of this guy's opponent you can clearly see it's longer than the allowed length.

shingoukiex*Sigh* You should get into an argument with s-jan. Yes, the length of pips is restricted, the pips aspect ratio is restricted, and most recently, there is a minimum amount of friction specified. AND you aren't allowed to alter the rubber after it leaves the factory. But the term "long pips" applies to many, many brands of rubber that fall within these limits and ARE legal, and ARE listed as "approved" by ITTF. Whether this guy uses one of these or something truly illegal, I don't know. I don't think you can tell by just watching him play. If he's using unaltered Dawei 388D-1, that is legal. If he's soaking them in something then it's not. I sense some sort of antipathy towards long pips blockers on your part. Maybe you just hate playing against them because you haven't figured out how to beat them?
