I know tournaments butter yours and a lot of guys bread but i think all the tournaments gotta be rough on the fish. Especially around this time of year. The rules should go to the MLF rules to minimize the impact on the fish. Dragging all the big fish all over the lake to bring em to the weigh in is kind of bogus IMHO

Couldn't agree with you more. The days of putting bass in a live well to take to a weigh-in needs to end. At the pro level, implement the MLF approach, club tournaments should use the kayaker method. take a picture on the ruler and upload it to the app.

The question you need to ask is.... Why does it have that specific lake every week? Why aren't these tournament directors going to different lakes? Down here BFL is rayburn, tbend, rayburn ,tbend thats it over and over. There is 200 plus lakes in this state why can't these tournaments be on other lakes?. Why don't they use the catch, photo, release like the kayak tournaments. The fatality rate is extremely small compared to boat tournaments.

Randy your video is addressing a major issue that is being totally ignored by the state government agencies in many of the states. This years class of fish will be greatly impacted which will create an avalanch effect. The fewer off spring produced this year will drastically effect the survival rate of bass fry this year and for years to come. This is a tragedy in the making. Thanks for speaking up about this.

I am anti-tournament! Too many fish die as a result of tournament fishing and anglers pull them off of their beds during the spawn. They don't care! We are an idiotic society that only thinks about the dollars that come in from fishing. No one will care about the fish until there are no fish to be caught then anglers will go on to screw something else up. Angling should be done for the fun of it.

I used to fish the Cape Fair area 30 years ago. Finally had a chance to take my son and grandson there for grandsons first camping trip. It was discussing. We spent the last 6 hours picking up trash because I have always taught them to leave a place cleaner than when you arrive. It was my 7 year old grandson that started the trash pickup and we left 2 hours late because he would not stop until it was clean. The lake was so rough from all the boats it was not fun at all. ramp was full. Fishing sucked. And this was on a Monday Tuesday trip.

Randy I think it is high time that fishery management determine the amount of tournaments a body of water can withstand before there is a negative impact on fisheries and population of fish . I have long thought we should consider some off limit times during spawning cycles as much as we all love to fish during this time . I live in North Carolina but what Tennessee has done with the introduction of the Florida strain of largemouth into Lake Chickamauga and Texas with the Sharelunker program should be examples for us in other states who should unite with political pressure on our politicians to budget money to improve our fisheries . We better wake up to the effects of pressure on fish populations before its too late .

EVERY LAKE IS GETTING ABUSED BY TOURNAMENT FISHING! Been fishing non-tournament for over 40 years. For the life of me I can't understand why every swinging pecker thinks he needs to use a fish as a competitive "sport" against another fisherman. I sure like your video's Randy but you need to look in the mirror!! Pro tournament circuits- and the money that follows them- broadcast wall to wall on TV for 30 years has caused this situation. Fishing and hunting used to be considered "relaxing hobbies". Why do unsecure men need to use fish as a source of pride against a fellow fisherman. My "pride" comes from sitting down to eat a meal of fish with my wife that were caught with the jigs I poured, painted, and hand-tied. You want to be competitive against someone else then go pick up a golf club, tennis racquet, or a baseball bat.

Good points. Here are some questions that have to be answered. Suppose you are the man or organization in charge of deciding which group gets to have a tournament on lake on a given date. How are you going to decide who gets in? How will you handle all the protests from the 10 other tournament you denied? How could you implement boat limits on lakes with multiple launch points? Until real answers can be provided the tournament problem will not end. Overdevelopment is happening everywhere and its a function of population growth and the desire for profit. The only solution that I have seen work is to designate certain areas as National or State Parks; otherwise the laws of economics will always win.

It's a big problem with the "last one in" concept. Everybody buys property in a desirable spot that's relatively pristine, except for their home. Problem is, once they get their place, they don't want other people coming in and doing exactly what they did. When you find a place you want to live or buy a vacation home, chances are a thousand other people have the same idea at the same time. The only way way to stop this is to designate swaths of land state or national parks. Gub'ment doesn't want to do that, though. Development drives money to the coffers. Parks are a drain.

You must have a regatta permit to be able to hold a tournament on Missouri waters and the Missouri Highway Patrol, Water Patrol Division, is the responsible party for issuing those permits. They could easily manage the conservation aspect of Missouri's waters by capping off the total amount of projected competitors on the entire lake all at once for each day. They need to stop allowing regatta permits after that capacity is met. Missouri Department of Conservation could perform a study for each body of water in Missouri to propose that capacity limit and Missouri Highway patrol could enforce it. It's really not rocket science.

Randy, I live in Florida. Talk about smashing a body of water, Ray Scott and BASS fished the Winter Haven Florida chain of lake and ruined it over the years. From 1969 through 1970 it took a beating. I moved there in 1985 and saw for myself the damage to all these lakes around Winter Haven. Now in 2022 they have come back. It took a long time. I live on Crooked lake in Babson Park Florida. We have a lot of bass and so dose Frostproof just 7 miles down the road. Sure there are some small club tournaments but that is it. Nothing like your area. Lake Kissimmi is 30 minutes away. It has a lot of tournaments but there is still a lot of fish there. The State of Florida does't care about our bass fishing . Not like the state of Texas. They take it seriously. Oh well, who am I. I agree with your video. Keep it up and good luck in your upcoming tournament.

The permits need to be issued by the fish and wildlife department, they are the one's who did the licenses and get information on how many they issued in the state and different areas. They are also in most cases who is stocking the waters so they have to have a better idea of what is in the resources of fish and game. They are the only ones who should be issuing permits for tournaments. It doesn't make sense to have any other agencies involved with that.

I get it, so what are we going to do about it? Every decision-maker, whether they are in the Planning Department, Town Commissioner, or Council member, is voted in. I deal with them every month and nothing is going to change until those boards change. If you want a change in that local area you're going to have to make a big push for getting people on those boards that see things the way you do.

I hope my Bull Shoals doesn;t have the same situation in the future. i think it will be hard to prevent it but we shall see. yes, there are tournaments but it doesn't seem to be overboard...yet. i have not facts or data to support that , just my general observation.

The solution is what they do in Canada. Close the season on bass for those critics 6 weeks or so and let the fish do their thing. Have your tournaments before or after that.

We can talk about it till we're blue in the face, the only answer is money. Less tournaments and less development equals less money. Who's going to make up for the money lost?

I always read the viewer comments. And I've seen this in other aspects of of life...slip five hundred dollars to the right person and their vision changes towards what the other desires. Three tournaments the week you were competing, several more the following week. A fair amount of change if that's the case.

“We don’t own anything” well they believed they owned the river enough to damn it up and disturb water flow that had occurred for hundreds of years that goes for 97% of lakes in America. I’m not saying the tournament’s ain’t hurt the fishing bad but I truly believe it’s just you fished a lake and a fish that is completely different to todays lake and fish..

I don't think we should keep any bass during the spawn hauling them all over the lake is not good.

I ve never been to that part of the world. Did pass through the panhandle of Florida and Bama one time. I hear a lot of talk about 3 lakes ? In hundreds of miles radius. Maybe y'all need more lakes to spread the fisherman out. Just a thought.

As ive said before the states and local government want that money!!!! Money's the number one issue we just got done fishing Pickwick in Tennessee. It was our tournament of champions its a national tournament. All of the district champions from across the United States and the points leaders from all the districts in the states and big fish champs in usa bassin qualified for the tournament if champions. Before we got there after the same boat launch u.s.a. bassin Had there silver cup which is a two day tournament. Our tournament had 197 112 weighed in. My partner and I finished 100 out of 197 with two fish for 3.88 pounds.... 85 boats zeroed. There were alot of 1 bass and 2 bass bags very few 5 bass stringers. But talking to the tournament folks all they xan do is go on about how good Pickwick is ....... My wife and i and my partner fished that lake for four days averaged about 15 bites a day. I consider us as a bit better than the average guy who fishes less than 25 times a year. Talking to the average and below average fun fishing guys at the ramp alot of them never caught a bass or had a bite in 8 hours on the water. They're going to start putting his legs on a rotation only allowing so many boats to go out a year on a body of water based on the current populations in it. And quite having tournaments during the spawn.
