I was watching one video on Tik Tok a famous platform for people who want to share their talents. On one of the videos one 'expert' tried to explain how one of the famous music group did this on purpose, so other people find it difficult to copy. What I am talking about? I am talking about breaking the beat. Western drummers are very good indeed, but they have luxury of having different sets to create a different voices and their work has been made more easy when they introduced electronic drums. eg yahama etc. In this video the harmonium player; looks like his uncle; breaks the rhythm twice, once at 2:27 and again on 4:48. In urdu qawwali hand beats are very very important. Some times if the lead singer goes astray (which is very rare of course) the hand beat brings the whole qawalli into the rhythm. In this video there is no hand beat. So, It was a very difficult. On top of the fact that Aaj naa javeen. is one of the most difficult qawallis. This wonder boy, If i say justified it, would be a very callous statement. His play was icing on the cake. When I see these days this wonder boy in latest videos, he has grown up a lot. In the good hands. But, I am so sad that this heavenly artform is dying. Like puppeteering. My blessing are with you. Keep this art form alive as long as you can. I am sure somewhere, it soothes the spirit of someone. I can see in other videos how this qawalli pours out from every pour of Javed Saheb and his team.
