The beauty is that its highly techinical and yet through out 10 minutes of it, you dont feel like he is singing to show off. Gentlemen pay attention...this is what singing should be. Singer is using skills to explain the poetry and not using poetry to show off his skills.

@hookabhi Sanal MoR muharaN means (mere Mehboob lout aao.Actually Muhaar is the rope used to controll camel & mor means turn back, Sanwal means beloved one) Multani Kafi is semiclassical singing similar to thumri, but language is Multani(saraikee) thats why its called Multani kafi(Kafi si a genre in Punjabi poetry like we have Ghazal Kaveeta Nazam in urdu.

Hello, Can someone please tell me what does Sanwal Mor Muharan means... Also, please guide me whats Multani Kafi... Is it similar to what Abida sings like sufiana? Please do tell me as I have very much interest in music and different genres. Love from India...

Also there was no other well known sofiyana poetry in urudu (other than iqbal i cannt even think of one) so kaafi was never used or directed for sofiyana kalam in urdu which is practically doesnt exist. tauseef you are right. baba bulley shah, mian muhammad bakhsh etc. all did poetry in punjabi and are reffered as kaafi :)

actually you guys are a little misguided on the meaning of kaafi. Urdu had pure and clear distinction in sofiyana kalam. Hence the terms naat and hamad etc. All the local languages didnt. It is almost impossible to tell if a kaafi is directed towards God or prophet and that is why all of them were put in one catagory.

@tauseefphy as far as the meaning of (sanwal mour moharan) is concern you are right but terming Kafi as a genre of Punjabi poetry is questionable. Kafi is purely a form of saraiki poetry.
