T.S.O.L'.s Ron Emory: 'Gretsch Guitars Are Rock And Roll Guitars All the Way' | Gretsch Guitars

TSOL guitarist Ron Emory loves Gretsch: "Of course Gretsch is a very popular guitar with rockabilly - you’ve got all the greats from the past like Cochran who played them originally- and they do get a fantastic sound for rockabilly... But, they are rock and roll guitars all the way. I mean, they are absolutely rock and roll guitars.” The punk rock guitarist recaps some of his favorite Gretsch axes over the year and explains what he loves about their unique sound.

More About This Video:
“The pickups have such a unique high end where it just punches through but you still have that low-end grind on them," says EMORY. I know some of the older hollow bodies were a bit hard to control but if you set your amp up properly you could get some really unique sounds through them.”
And with some of the newer Gretsch models in particular, Emory notes how "with the master volume you can control the amount of gain and output and you can really get some really nice overtones. I use multiple amps and kind of split them up stereo so you can get these really cool harmonic feedbacks that you can’t get with any other guitar. I couldn’t get it with a Gibson, I couldn’t get it with anything else.”
About Gretsch:
With its emphasis on hand-craftsmanship and commitment to quality over a storied 135 years and counting, Gretsch has pioneered new designs and manufacturing techniques, winning endorsements from some of the music industry’s most respected artists, including Chet Atkins, Eddie Cochran, Billy Duffy, Bono, Duane Eddy, George Harrison, Brian Setzer, Stephen Stills and Malcolm Young.

Respect. I never woulda thought I'd see TSOL killin it in 2021 still looking healthy. Ron- glad your still killing it bro. And yes nothing like a Gretchen, especially the old ones but hey they aren't as roadworthy as these new ones. Much love

Way back in 2003 or 2004 I came across a lefty Gretch at a guitar center, it was a thin hollow body (don’t remember the name of the model). But damn did it sound freakin amazing, to this day way better than anything else I’ve played. They definitely have such a unique badass sound about them.

Great video! Thanks for sharing that with us. I'm a Gretsch fan, too. I believe that every serious American guitarist need to own at least one Gretsch, a Fender, and a Gibson.

Nobody bends a note like Ron Emory. Listen to those bends on Joykiller 1, then try to find them on Static and Three (both great records). Absolutely inimitable. Old Huntington had lots of great bands before the fascists ate our music, but none of them sound like Main St. sonic violence the way Ron Emory does.
