This short narration, extracted from Ahmed Tahir Baduri, narrates about the first five Eritrean women who joined the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) freedom fighters in 1973 and 1974. These first Eritrean women freedom fighters' names are Aberash Melke, Dahab Tesfatsion, Worku Zerai, Measho, and Abeba. It narrates the struggle not only against the enemy but also against the patriarchal view of the majority of freedom fighters, against the miserable life in the revolutionary struggle, against the harsh natural environment, and so on.
Aberash Melke, Dahab Tesfatsion, and Worku Zerai were imprisoned in the revolutionary vanguard as part of the Menka'e movement. Tragically, Aberash and Dahab were gunned down in the mid-1970s, while Worku was freed. In 2024, Worku passed away.
