I've been with T-Mobile for at least 10 yrs now. I do the 55+ plan with my Mom so i'm only paying $30 a month for unlimited everything. I ended up trading in her old Note 5 from Sprint for the $500 credit. Paying 280+ tax upfront sucked BUT the $9 instead of the $30 I was just paying for my S8+ is nice. You can put extra towards just the phone or pay it off early. So still only a $500 phone plus tax if you got the base model like I did. Plus I can still sell my S8+ or keep it if I'd like. 😉

Yeah your situation looks pretty unique and pretty good. Does T-Mobile make you buy a phone plan of your aren't already on one? I think their regular unlimited plan is like $70-$75, and that adds up nicely and almost offsets the discount on the phones IMO. Your deal undercuts it though. Also can you pay that off early in like 6 months or 1 year?

  • @alyssapuryear2006

    @alyssapuryear2006

You can definitely pay the phone off early and if you do, the remaining credits will just go to your regular bill. They have a few different plans now for military, seniors and regular plan of unlimited not sure of the exact prices right now but you usually get a $10 discount for autopay too.

  • @BryMoon

That doesn't sound right. Their website says $280 down and $30/month to finance. I figure they give you back $500 in bill credit over 24 months (~$21/mo). So, I would think you pay $280 down, trade-in and pay about $9/mo for 24 months. Either way, I don't like bill credits and having to wait 2 years to get the full savings. That's just crazy.

Once you go into your account, and put in your IMEI of your Galaxy device, it will check it. Then it will tell you that you qualify for the $500. Right, very similar to Verizon. When I bought my Note 8 at Verizon they gave me $480 credit for the a Samsung S7 Edge and then I owe them for 480. You have to sign up for 2 years so instead of paying $40 a month for the phone for 2 years for $960, you pay the remainder of 480 for 2 years, which is $20 a month. That seems harmless enough but that's how they give you the extra for 80. If you bail out after one year you still owe them $240 of the 480 that would have been paid off in 2 years. So these trade-ins with credits are okay if you stay with them for 2 years. If you don't it's not so hot

Even if I'm wrong about the phone plans, I can't do that even though I could. 2 years is just too long to be locked into any company, despite the discount. Looks like you're only going to knock 6 months and about $10-$12 off your monthly payment.

The irony tho, I visited a T-Mobile store in my area today also. I went in their to ask a question, had no clue they would have the Note 9 on display, only it was the blue one wit the yellow S-Pen. You're right, everything looks much better in person. I put my Note 8 next to it, the Note 9 is like a mm smaller and wider at the same time. It felt pretty good in the hand but I'm dumb. If it ain't black, I don't want it, I don't care how nice that yellow S-Pen looks. At the same time, if I can get my hands on the black one, I might consider it. Also, yea those bill credit promos aren't that good.

Verizon has been doing this for a while. It’s definitely not good for consumers. Heres’ an example... Verizon offer you a $300 credit when you trade in your current device. They spread the $300 over 24 months. The catch is that if you upgrade your new device to another model the very next year, you will forfeit the remaining credit. So basically, if you want to get the latest and greatest the very next year after 12 months, you basically gave them your older phone for $150. They know that many customers may not want to keep the same phone for 2 years.

I was like cool, since the phone was $30/month it dropped to $15/month. So now I'm digging this Note 9 but guess what. I'm locked in to that promotional credit so if I upgrade then the promotion is voided and they keep that s7 egde. In order to get my full $360 I have to keep the s9+ for 2 years. Why they just won't transfer my credits to the new phone man I dont know why. Its bullshit. I probably just cash out for the Note 9 smh

J.Williams ive always had Metro my question is why do they make you finance the phone being a new customer and not let you pay 💸 Cash up-Front?

It's true! It happen to me! With the Note 8! Nothing down, can't pay on balance and if you want to pay it off... here comes taxes, etc! Yes, T-Mo! "That tiny fine print!" I will only buy out right! But the phone(s) have to be on a price reduction! But the price keeps get higher to the point I don't want anymore!

But it is a good deal. Your only left with $220 to pay over 24 months. That's like getting a $1250 phone for $600 and just pay a tad under $10 bucks a month for 24 months. 😀

The Note 9 looks really nice....but: AT&T wants to upgrade me on Next for less than $20.00. I have a slight issue with the price of the Note 9. The taxes will be over $100 I was forewarned. I got suckered with the S6 Edge Plus over $1000.00 and vowed never again. I love my Note 8 and will keep it. Price isn't justifying means. I will pass.

And you have to realize if you do not keep your phone for 24 months you do not get the full $500 bill credit back to you. So let's say next year a new model comes out and you decide to upgrade you will not receive all that extra credit from you upgrading a year early for not going out the full two years and holding on that phone

Definitely better buying through Samsung. I bought my wife a Note 8 last year and traded in her note 5. They took the $400 off the top, sent the Note 8 and we sent in the Note 5.

I agree CJ I believe that deal is not a good deal I believe that you're just going to get suckered in and paying more on the device and the down payment of that phone that's insane money T-Mobile going to lose a lot on this one I think

So if you do the trade in.. What happen if you upgrade your phone in 12 month? 😁 To note 10..? Will you loose the rest of your credit own to you?. If you desde to pay it off in the 12 month period?

If you pay it off early or upgrade, you don't get the credits anymore. Which is why it's a horrible deal. They want you to stay locked in, for that 2 years with them.

Well this is what I did.... I buy a galaxy s7 for 200, I preorder and trade in the s7 device for 500 dollars off on 24 bill credit, when I get my note 9 , I only paid a 250 plus tax downpayment, I will only pay 13 dollars for the galaxy note a month, plus I get my AKG headphones........ o btw I sold my note 8 for 600 the same day I get my note 9.... soooooo for me I made a huge deal... 600 from my note 8 , plus 300 saving from the trade in , is 900 ... I will only pay 100 dollars plus tax for the upgrade.... not bad.... lol.

Tax is based on the cost of the product. So the more expensive a product is the higher the tax
