此曲是為臺北市立國樂團民族器樂大賽而創作，完成於2014年2月。
據《史記•大宛列傳》和《漢書•西域傳》記載，早在西元前二世紀以前，樓蘭就是西域一個著名的「城廓之國」。它東通敦煌，西北到焉耆、尉犁，西南到若羌、且末。古代「絲網之路」的南、北兩道從樓蘭分道。
公元前77年，漢朝使者傅介子刺殺樓蘭王安歸，改立其親漢弟弟尉屠耆為王，改國號鄯善。公元四世紀之後，樓蘭國突然消聲匿跡，而在1900年，樓蘭古城重新被發現。《樓蘭女》音樂素材運用方面，作曲家是從波斯揚琴（santur） 音樂中取得靈感，在KZread上觀察並吸收其慣用的棒法，來突破中國揚琴長久以來墨守成規的演奏手法。音樂分三段落，以散板自由吟唱段落開始，考驗比賽者的音樂感；中段6/8拍大量運用到不規則的棒法，在中國傳統揚琴作品中比較少用到：第三段落音樂爆發性強，且有一段獨奏與樂團的競奏段落，把全曲帶到最高潮，考驗演奏者的速度與持久力。
This piece was composed for the Taipei Chinese Orchestra's National Instrumental Music Competition and completed in February 2014.
According to the “Records of the Grand Historian” and the “Book of Han,” Loulan was a famous “city-state” in the Western Regions as early as the 2nd century BCE. It connected to Dunhuang in the east, Yanqi and Yuli in the northwest, and Ruoqiang and Qiemo in the southwest. The southern and northern routes of the ancient “Silk Road” diverged from Loulan.
After the 4th century CE, Loulan suddenly disappeared from historical records, but the ancient city of Loulan was rediscovered in 1900.
In terms of musical material for "Loulan Girl," the composer drew inspiration from Persian santur music, observing and incorporating its playing techniques from KZread to break the long-standing conventions of Chinese yangqin performance.
