You could argue that the T-800 series were built to last. Just a big, tough tank that was meant to walk through hails of gunfire and get shit done. Simple, brutal efficiency. But after the 800 series, Skynet started getting cute, started flexing. Everything is a new gimmick. Things that sound amazing, and can perform increasingly incredible feats. Their make up and chassis can do many, many things. But as with all machines, the more moving parts, the more likely something can break. They can perform many functions, but perhaps not all of them well. When something goes wrong, it leads to other failures, failures that threaten the "gimmick". Sure, the T-1000 could make a spike to jam through your skull...but the T-800 could do the same thing with its fist. The T-800 does one thing, does it very well, and moves on to do that thing again and again and again, until that thing is done, or it is destroyed. It's built to pound on, built to absorb damage and keep on trucking. Moreover, it's relatively simplistic design (in comparison) means that there is less shit to break. As its sturdy, rugged design was made to absorb punishment, it doesn't start experiencing failures if a piece gets damaged here and there. Loses an arm? Doesn't give a shit. Exposed to extreme high/low temperatures? Doesn't give a shit. You see this in older machines. Things built to just WORK. No frills, no gimmicks, just built to one thing, do it as best it can, and move on to doing it again. When something does break, it's usually easy to fix. With often only the (deliberate) shortage of parts making that impossible. Compare the pain in the fucking ass that is a hydraulic clutch to the old school version. Hose blew? Well, you're fucked. The T-800 was built when Skynet wasn't fucking around. But then it started getting too cute for its own good. Wanting to show off with bigger and better ideas. In fact...you could say...it started to develop a very human ego.

The idea of the the nanomech T-3000 by itself was a decent one. The idea of John Conner as the villain by itself was a decent one- how many victorious revolutionary leaders throughout history ended up corrupt tyrants as bad or worse that those they rose up against? The idea of John Conner being a Terminator by itself was a decent one- see the original ending of Salvation where John dies and Marcus Wright assumes his identity and face to continue the fight and keep mankind inspired. But somehow Genesys took all three ideas and messed them up by using them together.

@@TheKenji2221 Yes, in the version of the movie that actually came out. However in an earlier script, John would be killed off near the end and Marcus would take his face and pretend to be him, meaning that the Resistance was being lead by a Terminator impersonating John. I don't think any of this was ever actually shot, they switched to a newer script before filming.

3:50 y’all have to admit while this movie was bad, it still managed to capture that no matter how much damage a T-800 may endure, it STILL persists in any task it needs accomplished. That I admire. It felt reminiscent of the T-800 of the first movie when it had literally been blown in half and kept crawling after Sarah in an attempt to kill her.

John was still there on that machine it's just that skynet already removed his humanity

This fight is a testament to how well developed the 800 series terminators are. The fact that it can stay in a fight for this long against a much much more advanced terminator is impressive. And is not the first time it's done that, The T-1000, The T-X this T-3000. Skynet never should have moved on from the 800 series.
