System: What it is and how do you find it? |So You Want To Start A Ring Planner # 0

First video in a little series I'm doing to help others if they aren't sure where to start with (ring) planning.
The questions I mention in the video:
What does your intuition tell you that you need in a planner? (Monthly, Sun/Mon start)
What is the purpose? What do you want to use a planner to help you do? (just tasks and events, information/references, notes, lists, journaling, other creative outlets?)
What have you used in the past? Did it work? What about it didn't work? Why?
People mentioned in this video:

Ink Imperfections - ‪@InkImperfections‬
Thank you for being here!
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

This is a very good starting point for anyone looking to jump into planning or over to ring planners. I've been planning for a little over 30 years now and love process videos because there are inevitably things that others are doing that can be added or changed in my system that will make it work better for me. I've gotten to the point in my life where I have amassed a few hundred planners of various types especially in the last ten years when the online planning community came about and I discovered there were so many new sizes, brands, and ways of planning beyond my Franklin Covey.

Thank you! I appreciate the compliment from someone who has been doing this longer than I have!

This is a fun series! I feel like ring planners are trending right now. I love how customizable they are! I bought an $11 personal ring planner from Amazon and I already figured out that 20mm is not big enough for me! One day I want a 30mm Moterm rings to start and I'm happy I figured out I need a bigger ring size than 20mm from my starter ring system from Amazon! So I love that's your first tip for everyone! The planner hobby can be so expensive but it doesn't have to be!

It can be (especially with the community) - but it doesn't have to be, shouldn't be expensive when you're starting out! I'm so glad that you found something similar. $11 is so much better than $60+ when we're in the experimenting phase!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. The main reason I left rings was due to my horrible experience with printing/cutting the inserts....ugh. I lack the skills...lol.

Haha! It was one of the main reasons I waited so long to start! Printing and cutting inserts is on my list to chat about because it's such a big activation energy issue! ;)

I've been planning for about 35 years; way before there was a "planner community". When I started out, I planned in 1/2-letter because if I wanted to print my own it was easy -- I'm in the U.S., so 1/2-letter is standard, easy-to-find letter paper, folded in 1/2, or one simple cut. I've only bought inserts from one seller; they printed out fine. Mostly, I've designed and printed out my own. It takes some math and initially a few tries to figure out the peculiarities of your printer and how to lay out front and back of the page properly. I have a rotary trimmer that was sold as a photo trimmer & I find that it cuts very nicely, but the bed isn't calibrated in a way that makes sense to me, so I do need to print cut lines on my inserts, or use ruler and pencil to draw trim lines I still sometimes flip incorrectly & have to re-print. From my perspective, it just takes practice and is worth it for me to be able to have exactly what I want
