I just bought my first wall mounted rack with shallow depth. I really appreciate your content. Been very helpful in guiding my thoughts on this topic. I might have to go with the qnap solution now.

Hey any update I also have a shallow wall mounted rack. Did you end up getting qnap? Do you like the UI? How does it fit in your rack?

@@Powsimian @Pow I just bought a 920 cause it looked cool, haven't plugged it in yet as I can't afford the 4 hard drives yet, but I did get a TP switch for port aggregation only to find it is not compatible to my modem (802.3ad).. MAYBE A GOOD TOPIC FOR A VIDEO...

Can you make review with synology photos but to cover video play capabilities? I have Qnap and while qumagie works great with photos, it can not play some videos like .mts (h264) due to ac3 licensing and mjpeg videos too. Wonder in synology photos have that working

I had the Synology in my cart but found out that they did not support WD Red drives. I bought the QNAP that came with some Seagate drives installed.

Hello. What 8TB hard drive would you recommend for a home server? I want it to be as quiet as possible.

I love the synology platforms and in the market for a shallow depth rackmount nas. The rs422 was my preferred option but the 2gb memory cap was really a deal breaker for me. When I saw what qnap has to offer at the an even cheaper price point, it became a no brainer. I wish the rs422 was better value, as I love their networking product and would have liked staying in their ecosystem. It is what it is. Qnap, don't let me down!

@@pseudocode1 right. That vulnerability has been fixed by qnap before I purchased mine. I'm sorry this happened to you. Mine is not exposed to the internet so even if there's another exploit in the future, I'm safer than if it was.

I think the opposite, better energy efficiency, but guess software is not yet there, but I bet it’s coming. I am waiting for a Synology with 10 GBe and maybe an ARM, but can live some more years with my ds 918. Still ok with just pictures and just a few films.

2gb of soldered ram on the Synology totally unacceptable, no nvme slots, still stuck with 2x1gbe ports, single USB port (that model is just an expensive 4 bay unit) qnap unusually has ram slots with an ARM CPU usually arm cpus don't have slots for ram usually because functionality wise is very limited (apart from having larger read cache purely from Just having more ram) it also has dual nvme slots, 2x2.5gbe and 2x10gbe (only downside is arm CPU) usb 2 ports are fine for ups and other use and usb3 for higher speed external usb backup If they had used an Intel CPU on the qnap it would be a even more intresting product

Need Help! My turn finally to buy a NAS and money isn’t an issue. I edit 4k multi cam vids all day long and need to work off a NAS that has caching etc. I will need raid to back up work just in case of storage failures. My vid and clips and data are at the moment at around 15T so want a system that can handle that, back it up, and extract the data whenever I need with fast speed. Again I want the best, something that will last years and not something that will be outdated any time soon. Speed is the key for me though. Thanks
