I wonder if the dad actually died in the fashion as Caden describes, or is just one of the many bleak, exaggerations created by Caden and his incessant obsession with death. I only think so because the play is a product of Caden’s personal assessment of his own life, which would inevitably be tinged with his warped perspective

Also the play and reality meld together more and more over the course of the film, so the exaggeration of the events could reflect his personal feelings

No. there was so little left of his father they had to literally stuff his baby sized coffin with cotton balls to keep him from rattling around lol
