Part of the problem is how you explain it

The "problem" is when us IH guys hop on one that doesn't have a sticker anymore! It just becomes a stirrin' stick!

Yea. I had to go watch another video to understand a synchro shift pattern. This guy explains it poorly. But i can jump on any ih other then the 88 series(never been around one) and know what patterns are what without the stickers

Basically, it's gears 1-4 with high and low except with numbers. 1-3 = 1st high and low, 2-5 = 2nd high low, 4-7 = 3rd high and low, and 6-8 = 4th high and low. I probably made it more confusing, but there's videos describing it better.

I haven't driven a tractor in 10+ years and this gear pattern is still burned in my memory from having to drive a 4430 without the sticker.

We’ve had a 3020 with the 8 speed synchro shift in the family all my life at first it is quite intimidating but it takes no time at all to learn it. I find that transmission to be a real fun one to drive and possibly my favorite all time, hard to beat a good old 4430 quad range though.

I’ve ran our 3020 gas and 4020 diesel so much growing up I don’t even look at the diagram. I’m sure there are many others out there that are the same way.

wtf. that's the transmission I grew up with. Any brand loyalist can get accustomed to it easily. Easiest transmission outside of power shift.

that has been shifted a many a time. Look at the wear on the shift lever...Only problem with these were the internal bushings getting wore and hot engauging the transmission like it should

I was fortunate enough to live on a free stall operation in Amsterdam NY back in the 70s. My stepfather was the Miller and I got to start working when I was 14. The farm had a 3010, 4020 and a 5020. The best thing I remember was driving the 5020 5 miles from a place that they rented back to the farm. Fun times

It's all good in Dandy until the linkage wears out of your shifting rods and handles and controls down up under that Dash just like a International 4550 when the linkage wears out it's not worth a s***
