Just bought a 23 ST and this system is the ONE thing I do not care for. You’d think they’d do a software update. Makes no sense you have this big screen and it only uses the top section for car play. That’s a fail. That’s disappointing.

That was one thing I never understood with this large screen.. the real estate isn't used properly at all. Full screen CarPlay, bigger backup/360 camera etc should have been a highlight in this one

It's so sad that Ford didn't upgrade the Explorer to Sync 4 with giant 10.1" screen. Sync 3 is such a terrible waste of space. The backup camera is a perfect example. Massive screen, tiny camera views.

If they had utilized full screen on this it wouldn't be such a big deal. Definitely agree with you though that it's time for the Explorer to get that upgrade. I was thinking 2024 but it may not be until 2025

Facts

I just purchased a 2022 Explorer ST. I wanted to set up the presets for the radio, but I only have 12 settings and not 30. I went into the Settings Icon like you mentioned in the video, but then I have no Radio Icon to go into to select the additional Presets. The radio Icon is missing. Any idea on how I can get the radio Icon to appear?

If you have SiriusXM or another source active that button would be different. Go to Settings --> Vehicle and the 3rd icon on the 1st row should let you adjust your preset pages to 5

@@CarsWithSteve Thanks for the tip. Since I did have SirusXM, the presets were located under that Icon, so I was able to get all 30 of them now!! I appreciate the help. Keep up the good work!

I have a 2022 Explorer ST and my navigation map is only half screen since I reset using the volume on/off and seek to reset from black and blue screen. How do I fix?

Hmm.. you can try doing a soft screen reboot. Press and hold the volume power button and the right seek button for 5-10 seconds. The screen should go black and then turn back on

Can I add a photo to make my background or is that a no. I can’t figure out how to do it.

After watching both videos and reading the comments I’m definitely not ordering the tech package on my st. I’ll get the less powerful stereo, which is a bummer, but I want the 8 inch horizontal screen.

The upgraded audio is nice but nothing you can't do aftermarket.. This screen is a little bit of a let down for sure, especially with all the real estate not being used. First time that you'll own an Explorer?

Yep. First time. Doing a custom order because I don’t want the sunroof and I want bench second row for the dogs. No dealers order them without sunroofs or captain 2nd row.

Nothing wrong with getting what you want! So true though about what's usually on hand. Good call on the ST though, you're going to love it

Probably not. The Sync3 screen is last gen tech so outside of security updates I can't see them investing in updating the interface

Yup.. There should be an upgrade to the Explorer/Aviator coming in the next year or two but a bit SOL for existing owners

What package is the massage option.

In the ST it's the Premium Technology Package. The seats are technically included in the King Ranch and Platinum assuming it wasn't pulled out and credited from the factory

If I connet android auto, the native navigation systems, becomes unavailable. Is that normal^?

It is normal and unfortunately no way to switch it so that you can use factory nav while connected to Android Auto or CarPlay

Nope.. Ford's Sync3 system needs a USB connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

I can dig the OS, but why is everything so laggy and slow? Triple click on stuff to get page to open? in 2023? Come on Ford, you can do better

The newer Sync4 screen is a huge improvement but I think they could have improved some of the functionality of this tablet Sync3 for sure

Such a terrible system… terrible use of the vertical layout style tablet. I’d give it a D-, and that’s being generous. Whoever designed this needs to be fired

They could have definitely used more of the screen real estate, especially with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The next gen Explorer will have the newer Sync4 screen though

Car play on this screen is a joke. Complete waste of space.
