This 500 HP Explorer ST with Launch Control Was Built to Destroy Hellcats.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Kurt's 500 HP Ford Explorer ST might be on it's way to earning the title of ultimate SUV troll. Under the hood is a lightly tuned 3.0L Ecoboost twin turbo V6, sending torque to all four wheels through a modified 10-speed transmission. I've been told the goal with this is to eventually leave a Durango Hellcat in the dust at the drag strip, but even with launch control and a splash of ethanol that may be a tall order. Either way, I'd love to see that.

Hope you guys enjoy the detour! As some of you have mentioned, yes, the 3.0L ecoboost wasn't pulled from the Raptor, it is simply shared with. The Explorer and Raptor both took it from the Lincoln Continental originally. Hope this clears it up! Sorry for the miscommunication.

My mom has a 2013 Explorer Sport that she got brand new. Growing up I LOVED driving it. At the time it was the fastest car I had ever driven until I got my 05 WRX. It could keep up with my WRX (which was far from stock). She still has the Explorer to this day. 145,000 miles and not a single problem with it. 💪🏼

When I moved away my mom and I swapped cars for the past 2 years, and when I asked my dad if he could keep a look out for some cheap cars back where he lived (car I was driving was registered and insured by my mom) my dad just offered me the title to the explorer. True true. What I should've said is "shared with" the Bronco Raptor to make that more clear. Because that vehicle is a bit more mainstream and well-known in the enthusiast community, figured more people would recognize that vehicle. Actually, what I should've said is the Bronco Raptor got the 3.0L Ecoboost from the Explorer, which got it from the 2017 Lincoln Continental.

Ford’s always been solely about the bottom line. They likely won’t do that unless they’re 99.99% certain it’ll be worth their time and $. Their workmanship is garbage. The doors don’t even line up on my Explorer ST, and get caught on one another when you open them. Not too mention all the interior creaks and rattles and cheap seats.

I have installed a Ford tune, a Steeda intercooler, and a Steeda rear sway bar on my ST. This protects my warranty for the time being. Had a fun day at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the Roval with the Ford Racing School Mustangs and it occurred to me how much fun a Mustang would be with an ST drivetrain. AWD would create a Mustang that one could drive most of the winter, here in Michigan, rather than a fair weather friend. I don’t expect a $60,000 ST to be faster than a smaller $90,000 Trackhawk. I actually take trips in mine with the wife, dogs, and gear, with reasonable gas mileage. Cheers, Tony

Love my 2021 Explorer ST. Never would have thought I would have owned one, until I drove it...then later tuned it. It is truly a beast. My concern, after two years of ownership, are the electronic gremlins (rear camera, side sensors, intelli-cruise faults, blue-tooth disconnects, power window auto up/down) that are randomly popping up. Additionally, I've had to replace one front half-shaft and already broke the rear bolt holding the rear diff to the subframe (mine has one bolt). While Ford replaced it under warranty (with a one bolt unit), I'm not sure it will hold up as this is my experience at 42k miles.

The Hellcat made 600ish whp and the ST made 530ish whp on the same dyno/same day. Given the weight difference there is a pretty good chance of the ST putting up one hell of a fight and anyone who doesn’t know how to launch the Durango Hellcat could end up losing here.

@@jcosby51 Honestly IMHO you buy a TT for a tuner ride.... If you're not going tuner route, why buy the ST over the DRT? The DRT with a naturally aspirated V8 will be the better SUV to own long term, no doubt..... That EB will not get significant better mpgs vs the 5.7 with real world driving (turbos are thirsty and you've now got the addl AWD weight / drag garbage over the RT)... Keep in mind also you're looking at premium vs regular in the RT V8, that will affect you more negatively in fuel costs vs the stated mpg of the ST... Just my 2 cents... I briefly looked at the ST as I had hoped they stuffed a 5.0 in them. Once I saw that EB, nope went straight for the DRT RT.

Considering the fact that ford's prob made 5 million plus Ecoboost engines, and the overwhelming majority of them have been rock solid reliable, that's pretty impressive.

Owned a 18 Trackhawk and sold it to build a monster Ram 1500 with forged 426 and 2650 blower. Love it but wasn't reliable and easy as a daily driver. Cross shopped ST and Durango Hellcat finally deciding on ST with intent to do bolt-on mods unlike complete engine build of hemi (learned my lesson for daily driver). ST order kept being delayed. Found a Durango Hellcat in-stock at price with options I wanted. Cancelled ST order and bought Durango Hellcat. Not looking back. The hellcat motor is just raw and with some bolt-on mods the ST will never come close (if you mod the ST then mod the hellcat to be fair). Just don't track fuel consumption because it sucks. Better than Ram with 426 but still a pig. Then again we don't buy these for the fuel mileage.

A Kia with 255 tires has a coefficient cornering g ratio greater than a 255 shod ST Explorer. Biden+Forget about Ukraine+Reparations
