Hi from Canada 🇨🇦. I usually watch the BGT auditions on KZread as they come out to see if there’s anyone interesting. I used to work in the recording industry in the 80’s, first in promoting music to clubs then I started bringing in artists and got involved with development and was lucky enough to be in studio with some amazing artists and producers (David Foster is a genius and inspiring to watch, also sitting in the booth during one of 17 or 18 year old Celine’s first English language recording sessions is something I’ve never forget). I wish I had gifts myself, sadly I only have one, I can see, feel and hear that special magic very few are gifted with even when it’s unpolished. I was able to help some amazing artists get a start, even if my label said no and I talked to friends. I’ve also seen more than I’d like of gifted artists who have everything but the ability to get out of their own way. No amount of advice, pleading or chances kept them from continually shooting themselves in the foot while much lesser and often unpleasant artists shot to the top. I haven’t wished I had the ability to sign someone in many years before Sydnie. I saw and felt an overwhelming It factor before she sang a note and I prayed she’d be good. I know what can happen to gifted people who’ve been told no too many times. When Simon made that face and the way he looked at her shook me. I was relieved and hopeful when she proved her instincts and training but taking that moment to close her eyes, re-set and focus on the audience. It only took two or three lines for me to see & feel how extraordinary she was. The timbre of her voice is completely unique, completely her own. The richness, clarity and instincts for pacing were incredible but the real magic, the gift so very few have that can never be learned is her ability to convey emotion and connect with an audience. I was blown away on a computer and would pay a lot to be in the audience to hear her live. I know there’s been a lot of comparisons and she’s in a very small club with only two other living members (perhaps Whitney sent her so we’d have three again). Barbara, Celine, Sydnie. When I first heard that beginning to Annie my very first instinct was she’s a new, different Barbara. Seeing her talk, make us laugh and then hearing her made me think “this must have been what the first performance of Funny Girl was like for everyone in the audience”. Like Barbara and that show all it needed was the combination of artist and material for a star (the brightest of them all) to be born. It’s not that she sounds like Barbara, she sounds like Sydnie and no one else. It’s that she has a unique sound to her voice & phrasing, she has otherworldly control, power that fills a space with rich, round tones, it’s the command that person and voice have over thousands of people even while standing still. Her eyes, body, simplest hand movement convey multitudes and that voice makes us feel whatever she wants it to. She doesn’t need props, dancers or anything at all but herself to move us to joy or tears. That’s the very essence of the Streisand effect, she’s enough all on her own. I’ve listened to these three songs so many times and I can’t wait for more. I felt taken back to my 8 or 9 year old self (guess on the age, 4th grade) playing Song Bird over and over and hearing more with each listen. Or Evergreen, With One More Look at You, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever or watching Hello Dolly every time it played on tv. Sydnie can make us feel like that and you can’t ever be tired of her voice, each note contains multitudes. She’s going to be that for a new generation and I can’t wait. I would love to know if Celine or Barbara have experienced her yet and what they think. Now that Canada’s gift to the world is recovering it’s possible we could hear them together one day. If it’s anything like Tell Him, it will be a very good day. Sorry for rambling but I never thought I’d be this excited about a voice again. So thrilled I was wrong about that.

This was my first introduction to Sydnie Christmas. As each song choice was named the voice in my head said, “Oh no, don’t touch that.” Since I’m now covered in goosebumps from her singing, that voice says, “Oh yeah, touch that!” Yes Sydnie, go ahead, touch all the songs that you want! Thanks for sharing, Jax 🤗❤

Thank you for highlighting Sydnie! You are absolutely spot on with your critique! She was funny, extremely humble and grateful and so many people have written they’ve listened to her singing over and over again me included. She is giving us hope in who she is and how she is just overwhelmed at the love and support. She so deserves this and thank God she didn’t give up! Can’t wait to see her perform wherever she lands. 💝💝💝

instant quality recognised ,on her first audition, knocked it out the park is the right terminology, world class, she got all my votes, and so bloody proud ,and pleased for her, unigue talent. I have a niece who has followed the same career path down in the smoke, and it is so so difficult to get that recognition, our sydney took her opportunity, and blasted into the stratosphere, bless her.

Welcome to the club! It was sooo torturous to have to wait WEEKS to see her perform again. I was looking to see some singers and she’d just performed and it was released like 24 hours before… and so I lucked out in discovering her… but then again I , and tons of people also had waited and checked every day to see when she’d be on BGT again. I love seeing people experience her.

I've been around for a 'Long Time' (well over Half a Century), and have heard countless female singers over the years, also having already (repeatedly), watched her BGT performances and a few of her lesser known performances (to use a UK expression), I'm left Totally Gobsmacked ! The thing that keeps rolling around my mind is the song *_"I'm Every Woman"_* NOT to be used as a 'Comparison' but rather a Description. Insofar as, it's almost like *"ALL"* the Best Ever Female voices have been rolled together and put into 'One Woman'; *"Sydnie Christmas"*

She is phenomenal, and worthy of her name being sounded abroad! She is down to earth, yet her talent turns her into an English artist who connects with everyone. I was a little slow to hear of her, but am keeping up with her now and glad for how many reactors are drawn in by her: she is truly someone who stops you and you listen to her again & again. An English musician said that Sydnie masterfully builds the music to the magic point, giving you goosebumps, and then she retreats to the personal level: the art of music, from the heart of England!

Sydnie is new to me. I wasn’t expecting this to happen at all, but I cried. She definitely reminds me of Judy Garland. Recently, I was rewatching Garland‘s version of A Star is Born with its grand, theatrical musical numbers and it reminds me of Sydnie. Sydnie is not only musically talented, she also has such an engaging personality. With her dramatic flair onstage, I imagine we may see her in the movies someday too. Thanks for taking the time to share!

Agree with your assessment fully. Normally it takes a really good ear to recognize greatness, but I have seen other reactors literally brought to tears watching these three performances. I've watched all three about 100 times each. We only get a voice like hers once every decade or so, and she's one of the best ever. Love her personality, her presence, humility, and quirky communication style. She has no gimmicks and isn't a one-trick pony. She literally can do it all! Can't wait to hear her studio music and stage career.

Oh my Gosh, I absolutely loved finding your reaction to Sydnie! I followed her journey on BGT right from her audition, went through all the anxiety of waiting 3 weeks for her semifinal, literally praying for her to be inspired to choose and select the best songs and arrangements that would do her voice justice (cause some artists kinda "fail" on that sometimes, I feel), though I doubted she would, based on her experience, but I had to pray 😅! I was SOO rooting for her with all my heart! I 100% appreciate her as much as you do and am thrilled to find that someone as musically trained and experienced as you are has this kinda reaction to her. I've been saying she's a force of nature, so when I saw you said she's a musical force, I knew I had to watch this reaction! By the way, the 3 performances on the same video was a blast! Thank you so much and all the very best to Sydnie, so happy the world gets to be gifted with her light and God-given talent and she gets to live and enjoy it fully! 🙏💖✨

I've been watching talent shows like this since their inception. I'm 81, so I've seen many. She is the Best vocalist I've ever seen on any of these shows (IMO). And her performance of "My Way" is the Best, not just of this classic song, but of any performance I have ever seen. She won the show, and my guess is, the voting wasn't that close. People fell in love with Sydnie before she ever sang a note. She had everyone laughing, then she brought the house down with her rendition of "Tomorrow". And of course, her special rendition of "Over the Rainbow" was a showstopper. Her tone is so rich, and she pours emotion into every note. Sydnie is Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston, and Eva Casady rolled into one incredible package. She will sell out venues worldwide. A voice for the ages. FYI Your audio is messed up.

That end note of My Way..what a perfectly satisfying finish! Her personality is also wonderful in interviews. You gotta love an artist who wins 250 000 pounds and the first thing she thinks of doing with it is hiring a really great vocal coach on a weekly basis!

Her Audition song was Defying Gravity. Her second was Into The Unknown. She had a sore throat in her third song. She was like a younger version of Sydney.

“Somewhere over the rainbow” - Who sang it better Sydnie Christmas or Loren Allred? First, they have both given stunning, beautiful performances of an extremely familiar song. They both did a tremendous job and preferences are very subjective. Loren Allred On AGT’s Fantasy League, Loren sang a near flawless cover of “Somewhere.” However, her history on talent shows was much was different from Sydnie’s. Loren was already an extremely accomplished professional singer who announced to the 2022 BGT judges and audience during her audition there that she was the actual voice of “Never Enough.” Therefore, the BGT judges (including Simon) appeared gob smacked that she was now going to perform “Never Enough” for the judges and come out of the shadows. Allred presented herself, elegantly dressed, but as somewhat fragile and uncertain about stepping into the limelight. Sydnie Christmas In contrast, for her first audition on 2024 BGT, Sydnie sort of bounces onto the stage. Her personality is already infectious. She engages with the judges and audience, but her off-the street clothing and self-deprecating humor did not signal a successful audition. In fact, considering the tremendous expectation Simon Cowell and the BGT judges had for hearing Allred sing “one of the biggest songs of all time” (“Never Enough”), the context for Loren’s audition was completely different from that faced by Sydnie. Yes, it was later revealed that Sydnie had previous experience singing musical gigs, but Sydnie completely lowered expectations by announcing she was going to sing a song she hadn’t sung since she was four years old. Ha! And then to announce that she was going to sing “Tomorrow,” from Annie, only to have Simon hold his head, roll his eyes, and be told that it was Simon’s least favorite song. You’re 28 years old and have just been told that the chief judge absolutely hates your song choice before you’ve even started. Well, no pressure there. Buuuuuut. Although BGT never tells us who arranged this version of “Tomorrow,” and seems to pretend that they had never heard this version before, in fact, Marisha Wallace (search KZread) performed this song this way as far back as 2020. Obviously, this was NOT the version of “Tomorrow” Sydnie sang as a four-year old! This was a carefully crafted performance of Wallace’s arrangement and performance with a bit of jazzy-blues insertions and bended flats you would never hear from a four-year old (or a 10-year-old Annie). Another curious thing about this BGT presentation is the way BGT cut and presented Sydnie’s golden buzzer performance. After her rendition, and as part of Sydnie’s golden buzzer moment, “Somewhere over the rainbow” played out, with dramatic swells and diminishments all the way to Sydnie exiting to greet her family to the final words of “why, oh, why, can’t I?” Apparently, these were cut in from Loren Allred’s performance on AGT. BGT took a lot of care and thought into post-editing Sydnie’s audition and golden buzzer performance. Again, as has been revealed, Sydnie Christmas did not just walk out on the BGT stage and dredge up by memory a song (“Tomorrow”) she had last sung when she was four years old. Someone else noted, that she actually presented herself and dressed like an adult “Annie.” And after the accolades and golden buzzer confetti, as she walks off the stage she sticks her right hand in her pants pocket. Now who does that? Calculated? You tell me. Perhaps it was an extremely effective way of lowering expectations and going back to an oh, shucks, persona. “Somewhere over the rainbow” As has been noted, both Sydnie and Loren sang the same song, same version, in the same key. Who sang it better? A few observations. Loren’s version was perhaps more technically pure. For music critics this is sometimes the music measurement: How close does a singer get to the standard (or altered standard)? Loren’s version is bright and precise. Sydnie, who clearly put her own stamp on “Tomorrow” and “My Way”, sang a “Somewhere” version that was a bit more raw, a few more bends and tweaks used. A few pre-BGT videos of Sydnie’s singings have popped up. While good, they do not foreshadow the control or incredible belting capability of her voice, especially in the BGT final. During her time on BGT, Sydnie disclosed that she worked hard with a BGT vocal coach. Especially after choosing to do Loren’s version of “Somewhere” for the final with three days preparation. All to say, that Loren already had years of exquisite singing under her “belt” (pun intended), but seemingly lacked confidence to go solo. Sydnie, at 28, had some catching up to do and apparently was successful enough that she announced that she would use at least some of her BGT winnings to continue paying the BGT vocal coach. In other words, Loren already had the chops to effortlessly deliver “Somewhere,” while Sydnie had to work to get there. A couple of other subjective things. Sydnie has a great lower range. You could hear that immediately when at her BGT audition she was asked if being a front at a gym was what she wanted to do, she laughed and then gave this low lyrical “Nooooo.” She went with a few low lyrical swells in “Tomorrow” as well. While both singers have incredible high ranges, Sydnie’s lower range was very impressive. Loren’s diction was impeccable. Perhaps due to nerves, Sydnie’s diction occasionally became a bit mudded. And both singers could take in enormous breaths of air, without being obvious about it. When watching a Stevie Nicks video, Nicks will stand at the mic with her legs very far apart as if she needs her legs to help her do her belting. Loren and Syndie both are able to stand straight in front of the mic with their feet together pointing straight ahead. Loren has a bit more leg separation, but it is amazing that Sydnie, in particular, can ground herself on stage so effortlessly with all that belting coming from her core with her feet so close together. Finally, it would have been nice to have given Israel Kamakawiwo'ole credit for writing and singing this version of “Somewhere.”
