Sydney's 1930's Boardwalk Theme Park - Luna Park Sydney Overview and Review
Luna Park Sydney takes us back to the days of boardwalk amusements like Coney Island, with vintage style amusements and interesting attractions. With 80 years worth of history and multiple closures, re-openings and changes of management, it’s doing incredibly well to survive in the Sydney theme park market where most others have failed. But how?

I'm in my 50's and remember Luna park before the tragic fire in 1979 when 6 kids and an adult were killed. The fire destroyed the river cave and ghost train rides as well as the big dipper roller coaster. Sadly Luna park was never the same after that. As a kid of the 1970's,a day there was like visiting an amazing, magical, cartoon like land where crazy things happened. I took my children there in the early 2000's,and while it was quite a nostalgic thing for me and I still enjoyed it......my kids, even though they had a good time, where somewhat under whelmed by the experience. Oh well, I guess I have my memories.

The fire didn't destroy the river caves, it was bulldozed after the 1981 luna park auction by the new owners who had no idea about its historical significance and the big dipper was there in the 1980s.

I remember being 11 growing up in New Zealand when news of that fire broke on the TV news .... many years later when I worked in a bar one night before we got busy I was reading a magazine left under the bar by one of the barmaids - I think it was the Australian Women's weekly. In it was a section called 'It really happened to me' which was a section that featured a true story from a reader. This article was from a woman who with her daughter survived the Luna Park Ghost train fire. In fact she was the last survivor to come out of the ride in the car. She described how during the ride she could smell burning but thought it was part of the effects as they had past a witches display with a cauldron. After this she said the car passed through the next set of doors and the entire room was ablaze wall to wall. She said her and her daughter put their heads down and kept them down and stayed in the car until they finally exited the ghost train. She said she will never forgot the sight of the cars coming out after her empty but beginning to glow red.

I want to see more current Australian theme parks. Particularly in Victoria! Thanksn
You should redo this review when the new expansion is finished because I think the return of the big dipper will make the park better!
Ah Luna Park, so nostalgic.
I am a Luna park collector, Luna park Sydney is special
Terrific work Guys, Well done !
9:44 I guess that thing has been there awhile
How do you not have more subs! Great video!
Well currently Lunar Park is closed for some ride additions which will definitely improve the park
I've never had the opportunity to visit Luna Park... but those pinball machines.... you'd have to drag me kicking and screaming to get me away from them!(drooooooolllll) LOL

Neil Forbes aww that’s sad you should really go there if you’re a child it would be more fun but it’s amazing I’m 8 and I went on the moon ranger people call it the ranger tho but I wasn’t that scared of the ranger
You should do the Melbourne Luna Park. It's... awful. Tiny and cramped with not a lot going on, mostly awful rides. The only thing it's got going for it is the Scenic Railway, the oldest continually operating wooden rollercoaster in the world. But hey at least a demon curse didn't kill a bunch of people on the ghost train in Melbourne.

We actually had plans to review Luna Park Melbourne when we were nearby earlier in the year, but on the day we attempted to go some of the rides were closed till the evening because it was "too hot". Hopefully, we eventually get back there, at least to just ride the Scenic Railway! - Luke
Can you do Luna park Melbourne
I have a soft spot in my heart for Luna Park. I really love the atmosphere and the backdrop of Sydney harbour. The park is obviously well loved by its management. I'd love to see another review once the new rides are open. I think they'll add some much needed thrill and quality to the ride lineup.
I went the same night the week before it burnt down at the same time, swear lucky as we were going to go the night of the fire. Last minute we decided to go week before i was 13 years old. Great memories
It is weirdly empty most of the time. I went on a Sunday and there wasn't a wait for anything. Though I found the rides lacklustre and actually spent more time in the sideshow alley stuff than actually experiencing the rides.
Vintage pinball machines? YOU BLOODY BEEEE-AAAAA-UTY!!!!! Let me at 'em!!!
Great Video ... Shared/Scheduled
Beautiful Luna Park thanks for sharing very nice video 👌👌👌
This Sydney one is so much better than the one in Smelbourne
NINE whole new rides. Never been to Luna Park, and I am planning on waiting to go there. Not because I don't like it, but because I need the full possible expirience.
I think you were a bit harsh with your review, Luna park is not as good as it was its heyday. Unfortunately, I did not experience that. The bigtop takes over most of the midway that used to have rides and maloney's corner where you said looked like a car park was actually a railway yard for Sydney trains until luna park reopening in 1995.
You need to go back there soon August, there will be newer rides 😁
Is it run as one entity or is each ride run by a different owner like at the original Coney Island?

Jake Kuhl It's all a single company. I believe that the local government also helps to operate it due to it being heritage listed.
I watched the ABC show on the ghost train fire and somehow KZread are feeding me Luna Park videos. How does KZread know what I watched on free to air TV? Or was my Google Home device listening in on whats going on at home? It's so spooky to think the big G knows everything that goes on.
3:13 Ive noticed that on one of the pinball machines there's a "Sega" logo plastered on to it. Does it have any connection towards the Japanese Video Game company of the same name?

They used to have massive wooden discs that spun around at ever increasing speed. Everyone would go up to it's pinnacle and link arms and then let centrifugal force do the rest. Is that ride still there?.

Hey Scott, whilst Aussie World did have a wooden Wild Mouse, sadly it closed in 2016 before this review and before we ever got the chance to ride it! - Luke
I was there the day the hair raiser opened, everyone who rode it on opening day got a badge but I lost mine
There is a wooden wild mouse coaster still in operation at the Blackpool Pleasure Beach North West UK

I think Sydney kept their Luna Park to stick it to Melbourne... while Sydney was closing their, Melbourne kept their Luna Park, and embraced theirs.
My sister (about 8 at the time) a few years ago went to Sydney Luna park didn’t enjoy her experience much. She wasn’t aloud to go on many kids rides bc apparently she was too tall but was too scared to go on bigger rides by herself. So she only could go on a few and my dad made them give there money back (they gave half of it.) Bad ride selection. Melbourne Luna park where I went today is better!
You should do movie world

@@AusCoasters It makes sense to buy the ride second hand as it only cost them around $3million to buy and $2 million to relocate, which is crazy cheap compared to the $10million it cost to build Mick Doohan's Motocoaster. I would love to see another major roller coaster at Dreamworld today but with the turbulence of the park the last few years I'll be happy to just see it stay open at this rate. - Luke

It confuses me as to why Luna Park got rid of the Big Dipper. I understand it was noisy. But Luna Park has the upper hand. Luna Park will pretty much win every time. After all, the park was there before the appartments.
