I just wanna cry when I hear this. This song and album (Barrett, 1970) was a big inspiration for my youth when I hit grade 12, it really opened me up to easy listening tunes and I do remember nostalgia playing a big part of that.

I like it a lot. In reading a good biography of Syd, the author couldn’t stand it and thought it simplistic. I think it’s an excellent song. I especially like the key change in the middle of it, and the moods. It has a hope to it, which I like … in spite of the darkness.

No "thanks" can be enough, mate. God Bless You, Syd's Fans, God Bless Everybody and Rest His Soul and All Souls. Thank you.

Thank you so much for compiling this video and uploading it. Syd Barrett was so astonishingly gorgeous in his prime, (as well as talented)! He had big beautiful soulful eyes! He looked like a cross between Prince and Richard Grieco of the old TV show, 21 Jump Street.

a testiment to the skills of the backup musicians. at this time in Syd's life, his writting was fluid and unpredictable, and like Bob Dylan, Syd preferred to go without rehersal and with 1st take. This recording sounds like 4 or 5 songs strung together.

SYD BARRETT a SHADED BEAUTY; a WASTED MIND (from drugs); a TRUE GENIUS who left a precious legacy to the whole world and to future generations: PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC. Barret writes some songs of that musical genre, never heard before, around YEARS 1965/1966 and anticipates the already famous BEATLES who will "give birth" to the famous album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967; this detail of the musical "authorship" of PSYCHEDELIA says a lot about the innate qualities possessed by SYD BARRET. I repeat the adjectives with which I describe SYD BARRETT from my point of view: a TRUE GENIUS; the CREATOR of PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC; a PRECURSOR who musically anticipated his times: a musician who had VERY CLEAR IDEAS in his mind when he "punched" the guitar strings and sang over them HARMONIES AS WONDERFUL as they were DELICIOUS. I would add that I still consider the album THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN, in which BARRET's work is predominant, "a relic" and those "out of time" songs will pave the way for the very first PINK FLOYD with DAVID GILMOUR . On July 8th 1967 they made a promo film for British Pathé news which used 'Scarecrow' as the soundtrack. The film was shot at the Brererton Nature Reserve, Cheshire in the afternoon, before they played Northwich Memorial Hall that evening (and it looks as if it was made only yesterday). The film is on KZread. It's worth hunting it down.

No. His singing is as big a part of the overall sound as his guitar playing (what a completely original slide guitarist he was). You are right though: the thought of him and Jimi bouncing ideas of each other on guitar playing, song writing... the mind boggles.
