Syd Barrett-Rats

Музыка

Got it hit down
spot knock inside a spider
says: "That's love yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!"
"That's love yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!"
says: "That's love - All know it
TV, teeth, feet, peace, feel it...
"That's love yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!"
"That's love yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!"
like the fall that brings me to
I like the fall that brings me to
I like the cord around sinew
I make a cord around sinew
Duck, the way to least is less
Tea craving of the metal west
'ell tomorrow's rain and test
'ell tomorrow's rain and test
Love an empty son and guess
Love an empty son and guess
pimples dangerous and blessed
Heaving, arriving, tinkling
mingling jets and statuettes
seething wet we meeting fleck
seething wet we meeting fleck
lines and winds and crib and half
each fair day I give you half
of each fair day I give you half
I look into your eyes and you,
flathe in the sun for you...
Bam, spastic, tactile engine
heaving, crackle, slinky, dormy, roofy, wham
I'll have them, fried bloke
broken jardy, cardy, smoocho, moocho, paki, pufftle
sploshette moxy, very smelly,
cable, gable, splintra, channel
top the seam he's taken off
rats, rats lay down flat
we don't need you, we act like that
and if you think you're un-loved
then we know about that...
rats, rats, lay down flat!
yes, yes, yes, yes, lay down flat!

Syd had it, even when he didnt, Syd at his his worst is still better than anything off Dark Side or WIsh You Were, Syds musical appeal is that it lays somewhere between a garage rock anyone can do it approach and absolute conceptual noone can touch him genius.

I'm confused as to how this shows any disintergration. According to his own description of this song it's essentially a poem. He always loved to play with words. This song is in the same style as his earlier works with the Floyd. Everyone playing into the whole "he couldn't control his own mind" bull. He very well could and DID, just not in the best of ways. When he wasn't high he was all there, alright - so says EVERYONE but Gilmore, of course. Syd was emotionally unstable but not insane.

This is a solid song imo. Typical Barrett in that the individual instruments' scores all seem very disjointed and dissonant and other words that start with dis and indicate the opposite of coherent or euphonic, but when they are put together they're clockwork. Also typical is how the rhythm seems to skip. He was a pretty decent songsmith.

i've probably heard Madcap Laughs a couple dozen times. my first time listening to this album i'm impressed, because the documentary of syd barrett seemed to favor the madcap sessions over this better produced one. BUT DAMN, this song reminds me of the Magic Band, in the best way, similar feeling to the captain.

skinnydoggyz, Magic Band for sure. Crazy rhythms. Seat of the pants stuff. I have been a long time fan of this album, some hate it. I don’t care. I saw Dweezil Zappa and his band in February. That was an intense and stunning performance. They played Hot Rats in its entirety and all the live Zappa classics.

there are fantastic elements to syds later works. i imagine that the sounds he hears in his head are much more elaborate and flowing and that they don't quite the flow no matter what medium he would have used to create them. not like i think this is bad. i just think that if there was a way to transmute brain activity into music straight away, from one persons mind into a computer program or something.... that syd would be able to come up with the best stuff around

+Wil Hobbs Too good for Floyd to do it credit. They never could adequately convey the subtle nuances and complexity of Syd's unique way of delivering the goods. Waters tried, after Syd left, but only managed to sound gloomy. When he wasn't drawing on how much he wished Syd was there, he was sobbing about Daddy not coming home from WWII. Gilmour was capable enough, but had a much narrower scope than Syd, and to be fair, he never tried to emulate anything other than his own style. But when Roger got all prima-donna and litigious with everyone, it all got far too deeply mired in nasty pointless bullshit. Like there wasn't enough fucking money to go round? I hope the mopey cunt is thoroughly ashamed of instigating that ugliness. It tainted everything that came afterwards. TYou can't just shrug off stains like that Roger. Still, props for the good stuff, and everything.

I caught that too. Therei s never a good time to use that word or any racial slur, period. So I was upset and angry when I heard that, especially when you consider that his girlfriend was part-Inuit and born in Pakistan. I know racism was more open and thrown around more in the 60s/70s so I guess the word wasn't as frowned upon back then, who knows. John Lennon had a song called "Woman Is The N***** of the World" for god's sake, I mean, he wasn't afraid, AT ALL.

This track is from barrett, and by this point, David Gilmour is playing all of the instruments you hear. Syd for vocals and lyrics, thats all.

That is a lie. Gilmour insisted on Barrett doing the guitar, despite the pain of getting him to play in time, because he did not want to be accused of exactly this - propping him up. Gilmour played bass. Jerry Shirley played drums and Wright on keys. There is no listing on the liner notes because all those guys were under contract to others. Shirley said Syd played absolutely brilliantly on Gigilo Aunt, first take out. Then absolutely could do nothing on the Dominoes lead until Gilmour played the other tracks backwards and that is how you have all the backwards lead.

I completely disagree with you about DSOTM, The Wall, Roger Waters' supposed talent and whether what he created was either amazing or unique...but we differ. You can make your point without shitting on someone else's approach to music or labeling them a 'poseur' with whatever preconceived notions you have about their musical tastes.

He often wrote by association. It just seems that now he felt less of a need to tell a linear story about gnomes or bikes or scarecrows or whatever and just kind of jazzed it. I think "Of each fair day I give you half" is a beautiful line.

David Gilmour is a terrible producer and ruined this second take of such an amazing song that had so much potential to be something groundbreaking, exposing the music industry as the rats den it is. Heaving, crackle, slinky, dormy, roofy, wham.

This is awful. Piper was better than this, but that was childlike drivel more so than not. Here his guitar playing sounds like a kid who never played before & who just learned 3 chords about an hour ago & decided to blend them together. I have to agree with Gilmour. Syds 2 officiall solo releases were really bad & Gilmour said the deno tapes(this shit here) should've been burned.

You're well named. Utterly clueless. It is a deep, dark and prophetic song. This is word magic. Like Lennon's 'I am the Walrus! but with deep sadness and anger at humans selfish materialism and how angry and hurt he is at his betrayal by his so called friends. Gilmore did NOT say that. Both Albums were great, this LP being the best. At this point 918 like it and you are one of the clueless ELEVEN who don't. Hendrix considered Syd of the the best users of guitar an original. You moron he CREATED the Floyd and continued to influence their best work later. It's brutal soul poetry! And you actually want to burn this genius piece like an ISIS barbarian. 'I don't like or understand this deep POWERFUL art, Burn it!' Yeah the Nazis did that to 'Jewish degenerate art' that is now recognized as modernist brilliance. When they said 'everyone has an opinion like everyone has an asshole' you must have been the role model they were thinking of.
