@@endgamefond The show works because it is careful about its balance. Carmy is a genius but fails to communicate and manage, Sydney is ambitious and disciplined but impatient. I feel so far the show has retained its control over the audience expectations by not pandering and they don't need to redeem anything

Anyone else notice that Carmy looks at Sydney as she cooks, he literally watches her face instead of the food that is being prepared. He does this in other scenes too. He even does it in scenes which arent focused on their interactions in the kitchen, he'll always look up to find Sydney in the space. Those two have a serious connection. I think he is inspired by Sydney because she truly loves cooking and food. Her goal isn't just to be better than everyone, it's to express herself and collaborate and to care for others through her food. Carmy wants to feel the way Syd feels but cooking is tied to many negative things in his life. Trying to use it as a way to feel close to his family and then as a way to spite Mikey and then as a way to fix his family. He has never cooked just to express himself but working with Syd seems to be changing this for him. It's one of the few times we see him looking calm and even relaxed and happy in the series. I feel like it works with the cannoli metaphor too, taking something that used to be symbolic of something traumatic and reclaiming it for himself. Also, those two are in love.

EXACTLY!! Sydney also uses food as a means to show her love for others. Her love for cooking stems from the fact that she enjoys taking care of others. And Carmy is aware of this!!

So, what’s crazy is I haven’t watched this show yet. I’ve just been seeing clips & I gotta admit the writers MUST think you fans are slow with the platonic excuse. Like there’s no way they don’t end up together. A chef that watches a chef instead of the food is truly in love. That man is head over heels & Im not understanding why the strong push for a platonic relationship either? Like I don’t mean to say it but it’s definitely because she’s black. Had this been a brunette yt girl & EVERYONE would be pushing for the ship, & even more so it’s very telling on WHO is pushing for the platonic more than the slow burn. I’m wondering if it’s because they can’t see themselves as the main character and live vicariously through the characters which sucks because most black ppl have to do just that for majority of shows due to the lack of representation. Now that we are seeing more black ppl on screen it is very telling on how they are still able to move the goal post. *Sighs* I will watch this once they confirm that these 2 will be a couple. I have seen it where the show & writer are bullied by the fans into changing the direction just because the fan base was toxic. It’s clearly a slow burn however seeing a specific group go so hard for this relationship to be platonic makes me worry that the writers will have to stick with that storyline & I’m not about to waste my time on something like that.

This! I started watching because of clips I’ve seen and I already know how this is going to play out. They will play in our faces with the possibility of them two but they will never actually take it there even with the undeniable chemistry and then they will bring in another love interest that just feels forced or not as good. Honestly I’m not even watching for that possibility, I’m just gonna enjoy the show and the characters.

i always felt that carmy had this different type of affection towards sydney because she is the only person in his hometown that actually appreciates and is fascinated by his work as a chef. coming from a mentally unstable family he built his life to "prove" himself and worked till he got burned out, but around her he just doesn't have to. they share a common ground, a common love and appreciation for food as a way of art. and carmy just sees sydney thru that light, someone who just appreciates his art, his food and carmy is geniunely curious about her as he wonders how syd sees him. "how does she see me thru such light even when everyone around me, whom i have known for years does not see me that way?" even in the very first episode, syd arrived at the beef because she knew carmy was there. oh boy, carmy was flabbergasted.

@ 2:34 When he said “you have to care about everything more than anything” it made me realize that caring more about the people at the restaurant is something that Syd will have to learn how to do. Yes she cares about the food but she isn’t good at being vulnerable with her co workers. Like why didn’t she tell Carmy her mom is dead @ 3:48 ? Why did she cut him off when he brought up her dad @ 4:53 ? Why didn’t she put more thought into what’s going on with Marcus’ mom @5:35 ? She is very caring but only about the food. I can’t wait to see her character development because she will learn to care about EVERYTHING.

I get where you are coming from but I think it's not quite there, an example would be Syd cared enough about the restaurant and Tina, to ask her to be her 'Jeff' and sent her to explore her potential more despite their short comings and concerning Marcus the choice would have still been his, should she have known or not, yes now they are friends but like coworkers friends. It's fair to say that food tie all the group together in a sense because it's their place of work but it's also where family is in the show, but let's be honest not every work is family. - All of them knew Micheal, were tied to his family, Syd just got her. Wasn't it one of the thing Richie or Tine ( i forgot) was scared'' she just got her and next thing you know, everything is different''Camy lost his brother and it's quite recent, she literally said if I recall something in the lines of ''it's been a long time, I was young'' '' I'm older than she would have been '' during her meal w her dad, which (I think) 27''. After losing her business, I think it makes more sense for her caracter to be job driven since she took a leap of faith working for someone who she admires and end up a little later conforming some her developped insecurities when their business partner do things like ghost to go see their girlfriend. Syd, is already thinking about everything on her side. Because if you think about it. it's the two of them, I think that scene was 'let's (us= Carmy and Syd ( plus the crew) get a star' but then we saw how Carmy let down his promise. I think, because Carmy is the one who was there, know is crew better, longer, it made sense that he has more this vulnerability to their personal lives, right. He was fufilling that role in a sense. I think we will get the opportunity to explore that more in the future.

@@DoYouSalut Sorry for your loss. Yea I totally understand that but I think the opportunity to tell them as come up. Carmy literally ask her about her mom in this clip. I just think in the context of how the show is written, its intentionally. In real life it makes sense not to tell your coworkers your personal business, but I think we’re supposed to feel like they are closer than that. Like they are a family or forming a family. Also I think Syd does care but the way she cares does not require vulnerability. She cares for Carmy by putting in the work and giving her time (even when he doesn’t). But she doesn’t ask him to hang out or share things about her family with him. She cares about Marcus by thinking of ways to further his career and give him a new experience. But she doesn’t check on how his mom is doing knowing that he is on the verge of experiencing a loss like she has.

I think she cares and we know from the show she loves to take care of people. I think it’s more so about vulnerability. She’s cagey about telling Carmy about her mom which is understandable and this may inform how she feels about Marcus and his mom. He’s been going through this for years so a break probably helped. I think she took Carmy’s words too much to heart and that makes her way more invested than people normally are and contributes to more self implosions.

❤its so funny in a way that he is inquiring about her family bc he knows how crucially messed up his mother is and to be honest his family dynamic. His sister is clinging to her soul mate husband and Carmy sees stability in that. I secretly think the funny thing is that he wants to cling to the same stability he believes he sees in Syd. But like anyone who comes from a dysfunctional family of parents and sometimes siblings he hints to be sure, he fishes for subtle signs in Syd's facial expressions and in her answers. He wants to be sure he can find stability in someone like her, if not her alone because whether you as a viewer like it or not, they are connected already and that is far more intimate than pretending to have a connection with someone. He touches her and does not recoil, he is very close in proximity with her and takes up the personal space that should be there, but the writers of the show did not allow that...they wanted that space to be used up. Not a coincidence to anyone who has ever been intimate with someone and not afraid of them.❤

I just found this show. I had heard about it, wanted to watch but never got around to it. Now that I have, I love it! And I get why people like this duo. It's amazing how quickly they fell in step with one another. From the very beginning in season one, he brought her in as an equal. And she saw him and his crew as an opportunity for growth. She saw he wanted that as well and wanted to help bring that to life. I mean, he makes her his partner in His family restaurant. That says a lot about what he sees in her. They just completely connect. I don't know where it will go, or where I want it to go. I just know these two are meant to be something to each other. I didn't mind Claire so much. She was nice, but also felt a little too... Something I can't put my finger on. Perfect? Maybe? Sometimes your first relationship is there to help open you up for the right one. Idk... But I just want them to be successful in their business together.

Some artists are surrounded by inspiration to create something, some artists absorb inspiration to create something. If you look at Syd's home in season 1 - it was warm and full of colour. Hence why a lot of her dishes like her ribs take time and care to be prepared. But when you look at Carmy's appartment, because he creates such wonderful dishes from chaos, you would think his apartment would be a mess, but the mere fact that his apartment is empty and bland shows how much of his passion and creativity gets poured on the plate.

He needs to decorate his place. It so sad the real actor only befriended his lady in real life or date her and then left she and the kids as soon as he got famous/ he has a new lady already.

It may get there but its gonna happen well after Carmen forms a relationship...with a therapist. Cause that dude is fucked mentally. Being in a kitchen is where he is at his best; however, the anxiety and pressure he feels is not good for him mentally.
