In the made-for-TV movie Bob Mays (the character) was initially willing to allow Kimberly to undergo a blood test, but his lawyer said that if it turned out that Kim was indeed the Twigg's biological daughter, they could have a legal right to custody. Maybe similar issues occurred IRL.

I think the Mays either bribed the hospital to switch the babies, or the father switched them himself. Otherwise why not go through with the test?

They never asked Bob Mays the one question I wanted answered. Didn't you ever question how when your baby was born the doctor said she had only one working heart chamber and wouldn't live very long and then suddenly three days later was perfectly healthy? Of course he did. He knew it. Barbara Mays came from a wealthy family and I think someone at the hospital was paid big money to switch the babies. Kimberly Mays would've had a much better life to this day if these people didn't decide getting money was worth it to play God in someone else's life. I remember when this story first came out, they made Regina Twigg out to be crazy and smothering towards Kimberly, but that poor woman went through hell. Truthfully she lost 3 children, her first child Vivia who died of a heart condition, then Arlene who died of a similar condition 13 years later, then she lost the mother/ daughter relationship she was entitled to have with Kimberly.

Right ...a real parent would want to know about their child. He knew all along...that woman knew too that's why she called and drove by! He shouldn't of been able to collect any money because I think he's the one that switched them.

After 5 days when the baby not only looked different but had gone from being fatally ill to healthy? I think not.

Him denying the tests was extremely ignorant and annoying but I see where he’s coming from saying that she’ll always be his daughter because he raised her. But how he has the audacity to possibly switch the children so he may not have had to deal with the consequences of the sick child and I think it’s disgusting bc you should stand with and stand proud of your original child.

She knew it at the beginning when something was wrong when the doctors gave her the wrong baby, but the doctors and the husband said she was just trippin and she just go along with it.

In June 1988, the DNA testing at Johns Hopkins concluded there was no genetic connection. Arlena was not their biological child. She died in August 1988 after the surgery. It is ridiculous to suggest that there was any time to conduct a search for the real bio daughter during this short period of time when the focus was on getting Arlena through a potentially life saving procedure. Also, note the difference. The Twiggs raised & took care of Arlena. They said they loved her & would always consider her their daughter but did not block any DNA test to know the truth for sure. Bob Mays claims to love Kimberly, says she's his daughter, and blocks doing the blood test to know for sure. Suspicious beyond words.

Yes. That happened to me 1990 Saint Marie's Hospital in San Francisco California. October 12! My baby was skinny and white, they gave me a beautiful dark skin heavier baby. So I told her to give me my real baby. Still have the sign scratched from his hospital crib . Will never forget that day.

This is a tiny hospital with only two newborns. Baby A has severe health problems while Baby B is totally healthy. The next day baby A is miraculously healed, whereas Baby B suddenly suffers symptoms that look eerly familiar. In a hospital that small, how come no one noticed this? Especially when the mom said on day one "I don't think this is my baby"? Plus, they had to do constant tests and procedures on the unhealthy child, no one saw that previous data didn't match up (weight, blood values, ...) ? I know, hindsight is 20/20, but still this case seems strange.

He said I don't care where they trace her heritage to she is mine. Kinda a slip?

yes as a mother I found that statement odd. I saw the lmn movie on this as a kid and I swear it scarred me cuz when I had my girls I never let them leave the room I was in and if they did their dad went with and stayed with them the entire time until they were brought back to me. I even asked if there were any other mother's or babies with us, I was that paranoid about baby swapping

Very wrong for that man to say he doesn’t want the truth to come out. You might not want anything to do with your real daughter but that doesn’t mean to take someone else child. I’m sorry but I seen many cases like this and someone always end up dead. We cannot live in a lie, the truth will always come out and someone has to pay for the lie.

If i'm the parent, i want to know the truth about my daughter i want to make sure that she is mine, i think the husband Bob already knew the truth, thats why he was so against the blood test. And the worst part is Bob didn't even care about Arlena, if he did nothing wrong, he would have wanted to know about his own biological child. But no, he didn't care, they were pure evil, I felt so bad for Arlena, her biological parents didn't want anything to do with her.

Almost 40 years past the horrific switch event, ...the act of switching the girls was a selfish criminal act that ended up ruining two and more complete families. Never pays to cheat the Devil. Shame on the people who schemed and committed this atrocity.

Since the Mays family was well known and rich the hospital probably swapped the babies around because they Mays family paid them. They were trying for a child for a very long time and when they finally managed to get pregnant the baby was sick with a low chance of surviving. On the other hand the Twiggs family was less fortunate and already had a number of children..the doctors knew that one of their babies died from a heart defect so it would be easy to convince the Twiggs that its happening again. As lucky as Arlena was to be loved by the Twiggs so much, the Mays had the money that could have helped the poor girl live longer. R.I.P Arlena, at least your short life was filled with so much love ♡

Look at how he is lying when they ask him if there's any question in his mind if she might not be his biological daughter. 3:30 His mouth tightens up, his eyes start blinking really fast, he looks away, he swallows; telltale signs of a liar. And what about the way he treated Kimberly like shit? I don't hear him mentioning that.

Lisa N - Exactly. I noticed that as well. It was very obvious that he knew the truth. In the beginning of the video series, they mentioned that Barbara Mays had struggled to get pregnant. My theory is, her or the husband switched the two babies once they realized that the newborn had a heart defect. Remember when Regina mentioned that her and Barbara crossed paths and that Regina asked what she had and Barbara replied: “A girl.” but seemed sad and in distress? Perhaps she had found out the news of the heart defect shortly before that encounter. In the beginning, it was revealed that Barbara’s maiden name was Coker. She came from money, was affluent and influential in the community, bring that her family owned the fuel company in town. So it’s possible that they bribed one of the nurses. After years of trying of to conceive, maybe they felt like they didn’t want a baby who had a heart defect, or had “imperfections” so they swapped the babies. I definitely don’t think the mix up was accidental. I also believe that when Barbara called Regina for a play date and parked outside of Regina’s home - perhaps it was her way of saying “goodbye” or something. Or maybe she wanted to see her biological daughter one last time before she died. Or maybe she planned to confess that day. I’m not sure. Secrets keep you sick. So I definitely think that Barbara was involved, directly switched them herself, or knew the truth. Being that she died of cancer two years after the fact speaks volumes.

I wish a body language expert would analyze the old videos of Bob Mays talking about Kim because he or she would observe gestures on the part of Bob that say he is lying. He probably did a lot of those lying gestures on other videos.

Since she had lost a baby to heart defects so I think it's the key, someone during bath got it confused thinking it was congenital so it was determined the sick baby was also theirs....

He knew or he would have wondered.

I noticed that the father of kimberly wasnt at all concerned about his own daughter. That is highly suspicious.

Its evident the Mays and the doctors decided to play God in stealing Regina's baby. Horrible thing to do and the one nurse confessed it on her deathbed that this is what happened. The nurse was told to switch the identity bracklets and she refused but found it was 'done' when she returned to work the next day. She should have called the police but was afraid to lose her job and her own sick child's medical coverage. Still no excuse whatsoever.

$100m is a lot of money. It would put the hospital out of action.

Going by the dad's reaction I think he had something to do with them being switched. He wasn't bothered learning about his own biological daughter who passed away. They didn't want to take her away from the father who raised her. They just wanted contact and she had a right to know her siblings and for them to know her.

Sigh. I remember how this was all in the news when it came out. I can see both sides on it. Seems like quite a few hands in it. Its is intriguing about the bobs wife. She had to have known those first few days the baby was not well if she not nursing properly. Then comes along the twiggs bio baby. It comes down to fate choices arlena was unwanted sick baby. But she was raised in a loving family which they gave her meds to keep her going and all those siblings for 9 years. But this story intertwines these family for life. Barbara, Arlena and Bob Mays the family that should have been all passed on thats freaky karma. Though wonder if they all faced Arlenas spirit and make amends i guess. Now the only family left is kims bio family but she is detached from them. If this had not happened.

The doctor had to told them , the baby had heart problems from the beginning! How come they told the Twiggs family right away? There’s no speculation in that , they rejected their own child and claimed another family’s child ! And they probably could’ve saved Arlene’s life given the fact that they had means to! They gave up on their own flesh and blood, and dad didn’t even seemed to care what happened to his daughter! Wasn’t even sad about the fact that she was dead, that’s evil ! @@vitabela69 I was talking about Bob specifically. There is no proof he knew. His wife clearly knew, but he may not have known. In laws could have been behind that. There have been plenty of switched babies sadly, the men are usually out of the loop . It took a long time for her to get pregnant and then their child ends up sick.... It's possible his late wife kept that information from him because she felt he would be disappointed. And the switch happened behind his back. There is nothing pointing at Bob himself. Other than him loving the child he had raised.

If they wanted to take the baby from the dad then yeah I'd refuse a test too. But If they just wanted to know if she was theirs then nothing else then he should of done the test

Yeah I don’t think they were switched on purpose. I Bob had every reason to fear. He may not have known about the switch but he did know that the DNA test proved that the other girl was not theirs and the only other white girl born that same time frame was his daughter. Bob also understood the other girl died so they were coming to get the only surviving child. If Bob’s daughter did survive I think Twiggs would have be more understanding of Bob because they would fear losing the daughter they raised but without the other they wanted Kimberly. I think Regina Twigg ruined a lot of lives with her obsession with getting Kimberley. After dismantling Kimberly’s life as a teen, Regina no longer wants anything to do with her

Kimberly was off and easily manipulated. She wouldn't be able to stay in our home after divorcing us and saying she didn't love us.. I would think Bob and her was up to something sinister.

Lie detector tests are not definitive in any way. He was clearly hiding something.

My son was born with his chest was suck in when he was born. There another baby born at the same time, that baby had something wrong with his eyes. The father and I lock eyes, Looking back if he would have had the chance he probaby would had switch babies. One of my kids was born with a blind eye, we didn't find out until she was 6 years old, she wasn't switch, She was a home birth. Another baby of mine could have been switch, because when she born, there was another baby was delievered and he didn't make it. The hospital knew it, they could have try to make switch because I wasn't living in the area when she was born, The baby that didn't make it, grandfather was a doctor at the hospital, See how easy to make a switch. I had 2 sisters with me when my daughter was born, and my brother in law work at the hospital.

I don't understand something. Velma Coker, Barbara's mother, the one who died of cancer, said, "Kimberly's little girl', didn't she mean Barbara's littler girl? Also, was she saying she suspected that her daughter's baby was the one who was switched? Did she NOT know the date of birth of her own grandchild? Please, people, enlighten me! I am confused by Velma Coker's interview here, LOL!

The tragedy of it arlena when look at it. She born 3 days before kim, so the hospital and mom aware of how ill she was. They probably not expected to live too long. Then comes a long regina twigg gives birth 3 days later to healthy kim then the nurses switch the baby. The moms did meet in the hospital at some point. Arlena the baby her parents did not want.The hospital or someone was aware she had lost a prevouis baby to a heart defect they played on that regina emotions like it is genetic so just take the baby home and here some meds. But it must have been the love of that big family looking out for her to keep her going. Kim suffered too the bio family still like strangers to her but still wants to know them.

The truth is the only proper and decent way to go for all involved.

Attorneys are evil or at least this one is. He couldn’t let the dad cooperate because he could see dollars signs in his future. Why not allow the bio parents give the child love. She would have more love than most do from an entire family that have the same blood. Who on earth would not want the child you love receive more love. Just an extension of caring people to share and give her more joy. Selfish of dad not thinking of what’s best for the child.

I'm honestly disturbed at how many people are commenting that the Mays' clearly switched the babies just because of uncorroborated phone calls and statements supposedly made by misses Mays (who isn't alive to defend herself) and the fact that mr. Saying that he should've just done the test because he was so adamant Kim was his biological child is fair aside from the fact that you can see the doubt written on his face during the interview, he clearly wants her to be his biologically but knows that there's a chance she's not. And of course he knows at some point that the odds aren't in his favor, the child the Twiggs raised was determent not to be their daughter in a biological sense and there were only two caucasian baby girls at the hospital at the time of the switch... Arlena and Kimberly. I think it's easy to speculate and say that the Mays switched the babies but there's just no proof of that and thus to villainize the Mays is simply unjust. The story is just so complicated. The Twiggs wanted to know and love their biological child Kimberly but if mr. Mays even just entertained the idea that Kimberly wasn't his biological child then he would lose so many things in one fell swoop. If Kimberly wasn't his biological child then that would mean that Arlena was, this would mean that he would never get to see his daughter live and grow, he would never get to share his love for her, it would mean that his child was dead. If Arlena was his daughter then he already lost the last connection to his late wife. And if Kimberly wasn't his then he'd in a way lose his baby girl. In a way the Twiggs gained a child while the Mays just lost one and feared losing the other. And it might sound insensitive but the Twiggs unlike the Mays had nothing to lose and everything to gain, Arlena had past away at this point, they didn't have the fear of losing the child they raised to the 'switchparents' because no one can take what death has already taken. Meanwhile mr. Mays only stands to lose his daughter and gain the pain of never knowing the other. I have to say though that the adults involved didn't handle the situation properly putting Kimberly in the middle of such a public spectacle.These weren't toys that got switched at the playground, these were living, breathing, feeling children. And i understand that the adults involved are only human too but for how much they claim to love her, they sure caused a lot of psychological distress and maybe even trauma to Kimberly. They pulled the rug out from under her without any regard or perhaps realization of what that might do to a pre-teen girl. But it's easy to make that judgement from the outside, as the saying goes 'walk a mile in someone else's shoes' I can see both sides, neither was right or wrong because there was no clear right and their was no clear wrong. This is just so far in the grey that you can't even see the black and white anymore. Both children belong in one way to the Twigg family and to the Mays family.

It's kinda saf they waited till his daughter passed to look for THE BIOLOGICAL DAUGHTER

@@brandygraham8499 but they waited till she passed away to go find her, they could have done what they could have and let the parents see their blood daughter... even if was b4 she passed during surgery or to see they want to attend services

Maybe you missed the fact they Stole her baby because they knew their child was gonna die. They didnt care to meet her. She owes them nothing and they ruined the girl life

They knew the entire time that wasn't their daughter. She didnt wait....she found out right before she went into surgery. Imagine being a mother that is having a child go through difficulties the right before a major.surgery doscovering its not your child and having to process that. They had 10 yrs. To process they stole a child. This women did nothing wrong. She took.care.of that child to.the very end. They knew, the Mays didn't care. How can you sympathize with these people and condemn the people that had no idea? Im vexed by your opinion

I am not happy with her husband. Why to called her crazy? One is expecting the best support from your other half, not that sort of actitud.
