Switchable Digital / Analogue Slot Cars using FT-Slottechnik SCD2022 Carrera digital decoder chips
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Converting an analogue slot car to Carrera Digital using an aftermarket chip is great, but what about when you want to run that car on someone else's analogue track? In his video I show you how to wire a DPDT switch in along with your FT-Slottechnik digital decoder chip.

Cheers Marty :) I knew it was pretty solid when my wife said having watched it even she thought she could do it :)
excellent idea - aside from the space some of these cars have inside you've done a great job of keeping it tidy. I'll give this a go on some of the analog cars I've just picked up as I run digital at home but our local club runs analog

I used the first switch I found, I'm sure with a bit of searching it must be possible to find some the size of the ones Carrera put in theirs 😊
Great video. I love these chips I use them in my SCX compact cars they fit well because of the size. I’m going to have to try to fit an analog switch now.

I really don't know why the chip makers don't just all put a bypass switch on their chips, but as they don't we have to :)
Thank you!! Very valuable, clear and concise video. Many thanks and happy Christmas from Canada! Subscribed!

Thank you for the kind words and sub :)
Good Info Dave!
A bit involved, but it works! Seems like Ive seen where some guys unclip wires from the chip, and have the same connectors to re-clip to oem wires and be analog again.

yes micro JST plugs ... that's an alternative, I've got some on the slow boat from China, when they eventually turn up I'll do a "making chips plug and play" video :)
Excellent idea
Well done. Good choice on the chips ;)

I enthuse about those chips so much I really should be on commission from FT-S ;)
Excellent thank you! Cheers!
Brilliant. Thank you
But when doing this i guess it will 4:28 not work with digital features like lane change since you need then the “eye” that reads the input?
Good idea and I like the way in which you have used the switch. However, if you are racing against other analog cars that do not have all that mess inside, your car will be always a poor performer. As a PoC this is nice but I would never use such analog car for racing analog.
Clever!
Good video Dave. If I don't talk to you beforehand, Merry Christmas my friend.

Oh no, I love your videos even if you're just chatting about a car you've got and how things are generally you could still do some now and then. Same as with Marty Ford's videos, I enjoy the host as much as the subject matter and I'm sure I'm not the only one

I uploaded this video and lost a subscriber, I don't care though, I'm doing this to feed my own cravings to create stuff. It's nice if other people like it but not the be all and end all for me. If one person takes something from a video, then it was worth doing :)
Hi Dave. Your switch appears to be a Double Pole, Single Throw switch. I say this as there seems to be only two positions the switch can be in - either for digital mode or analogue mode, with no off position in the middle which would then make it a Double Pole Double Throw switch.

OK first off now I would suggest the SCD 1044 FT-Slottechnik Chip rather than the SCD2022. I'm in the UK and I get them from the Slot Car Union website which is France www.slotcar-union.com/en/power-supplies-controllers/12622-ft-slottechnik-classic-digital-decoder-for-carrera-4251041110449.html Ft-Slottechnik do have their own website shop but I haven't bought any direct from them yet. ft-slottechnik.de/shop/product_info.php?products_id=1

I’m sorry, digital is not real racing. And thumb controllers are back to the 60’s. No!

How is digital not "real" racing? It's the same as analog except you can simulate more REAL racing features, like lane changes, fuel stops, pace cars, etc. and most importantly you can do it all with 6 other racers on a 2 lane track.
