Switch Axe Guide | PC Keyboard | Phials, Combos, and Mechanics to Keep in Mind

Ойындар

Hey Everyone!
Time stamps below as this turned into a pretty long video. Video 3 of my weapons series is finally here! Thank you for your patience. Its been a hectic month so I do apologize for the delay. Aiming to get more out quicker!
As usual, I have included tips and small mechanics you should be aware of, not just a guide on what buttons to click that is in the tutorial room.
0:00 - Start
1:20 - Keybindings
1:31 - Phials
1:41 - Phial Charging
6:30 - Zero Sum Discharge
8:55 - Axe Mode Tips
13:47 - Waking Monsters
14:31 - Sword Mode Tips
17:33 - Weapons
19:45 - Jewels
Please let me know in the comments what you liked or didn't like! If there is anything else you would like to see, I'll be happy to work on it. Currently working on an Insect Glaive build to show you as well as the next weapons highlight!

    Edit: One thing I always mix up by mistake. Exhaust does not equal sleep! It just tires the monster out but the switch axes with exhaust phials usually have sleep hidden element. -Also earplugs 1 is super needed if you are going ZSD attack methods as ZSD inherently has lvl 4 earplugs!

  • @gabrielginsberg5715

    @gabrielginsberg5715

    Another point to make about exhaust is that it also deals KO damage if you attack it’s face while the phial is active. So it’s a pretty good idea to zsd on the monsters face if you’re goin for exhaust.

  • @jUppers

    @jUppers

    3 жыл бұрын

    exhaust phial underrated. people who say its bad usually say like "oh but you can only ko twice" "oh but you can only sleep twice" what they don't get is that the exhaust phial does 3 different thing: KO, Sleep, Exhaust. If you just trigger each twice that is already 6 times the monster is standing still eating damage, and then there is a chance for a 3rd of any of these

    You didn't mention a really useful move to maneuver while in sword mode: if you morph to axe mode WHILE rolling forward you do a morph attack that propels you a lot further than a normal roll, enabling you to make lots of clutch escapes while in sword mode. Another cool move is that if you morph from sword to axe you can press back on your analog and the morph attack will include a big backstep, letting you reposition

    There’s a lot of guides out there, but not a lot are post-Iceborne! Information is super concise and easy to digest. I’ve used the SwAxe a lot, but it was almost exclusively in axe mode. This is really helping me up my sword mode game! Edit: Something noteworthy! You have Earplugs 4 during ZSD, so you can run one Earplugs deco and you don’t need to worry about being roared off while ZSDing without Rocksteady!

    Some points about early release: it weakens the final finisher by a 0.7 modifier. Which is usually fine since you can start your next zsd faster but when you want to break parts you want to go for full zsds since ~80% of a zsds part damage comes from the finisher alone. For example when you want to break fatalis face full discharges can be better. With temporal on you wont be that defenseless either Also zero sum damage has raw and elemental motion values so even a element phial switchaxe will do raw + elemental dmg during a zsd

    Old ? Why u mention that ? It's not relevant at all in the actual state of gaming. You have some people who spend their life in valorant one of the ugliest game ever. Some other have played diablo 2 for decades. Or what would you say to the gta players ? The game hasnt left the top10 of best selling games since it s release in 2013. Or you have monster hunter rise which is a downgrade from World from a technical standpoint. Also you have all the "modern" games such as starfield which just suck a lot. So, "old" is not something you should mention at all. Nowadays, you have the "good games" that people keep playing for years and years, versus the bad games that people quickly abandon. @@SkySenseiVB

    Great vid overall, but just a quick note about morphing, idk if you are unaware but basically after any attack in sword or axe mode you can morph into the other mode. You don't have to necessarily have to use wild morph to go into sword mode and you don't need to use ZSD to go back to axe mode.

    For whoever is watching this in 2024 or further, the section on Phials is wrong. The phial listed in the weapon description is active as long as you are in sword mode. Power and Power Element increase physical and elemental damage by about 17% each. The regular elemental and status ones simply add that status onto your sword's attacks. Those little explosions happen when you're in Charged Mode and your sword is glowing, and do about 25% of the damage of the hit that cause them, effectively acting as a 25% damage boost. So Phials are active as long as you're in sword mode and those explosions are just extra damage that dont depend on your phial.

    Exhaust phial is not sleep, it's literal exhaust on the monster-- where they run out of stamina, get hungry and have much weaker movesets for 60 seconds in low rank, 50 in high rank, 40 in master rank. Additionally exhaust phials add stun damage, but the amount is tiny- 5 stun per hit. Slugger does nothing for this because it is a % increase, and you basically have to ZSD the head to get 1 stun even solo. It's not incredibly powerful all the same going up against 30% damage increases from power phials. I hope capcom makes exhaust phial more viable in the future.

Once you're on, hit both attack buttons together (Right and Left Mouse Click) to activate the discharge and then you can keep tapping left click to shell. When you stop clicking, it will release you with the final blast.

    @@SkySenseiVB is the zsd only available when clutched? ive seen some cases where someone charges and stays stuck to the monster immediately. I might not be seeing the clutch shot but it doesn't look like they're using it

  • @SkySenseiVB

    @@meeka2618 No its not, so if you do the same combo to initiate the ZSD (left and right mouse click) but on the ground when you sword is CHARGED, you will go into a lunge and if you're close enough, it'll attach you to the monster. I recommended the clutch claw since its a bit safer. You can position and grapple when you want while moving. The regular one has a long animation that you can't cancel and can't move and its a very short lunge, so if you miss, you're stuck for 3 seconds until it finishes the lunge.

    Does artillery help with Phials?

  • @SkySenseiVB

    @SkySenseiVB

    It would help only with impact phials - however usually its not worth unless you are specifically only doing ZSD attacks. That being said, I haven't tested the newest armour combinations so if theres a way you can get artillery without sacrificing agitator and and high crit, it might be worth it :)

    You did a little mistake, you cant power up your axe after two swings, you have to do at least 3 swings to get the double overhead slams that power up the axe. The rest of the video is awesome and a nice help, I mean, I like the zsd but never considered it to be viable enough except for some openings. Because of you I will try out a full zsd build :D Edit: with 3 swings I mean, right, left, right and then overhead, in the video you did right, left, right, left and then overhead

    I don't understand. What's the difference between power and power element

  • @SkySenseiVB

    @SkySenseiVB

    3 жыл бұрын

    Power is raw damage essentially. Power Element deals element dmg. So the phial type just determines what dmg type comes out of your phials :) The monsters you use raw dmg or blast dmg for other weapons, bring a power phial SA. If a certain element is strong against a monster, bring a SA with a power element and the correct element type. :) Hope that clarified a bit!

    Um you can do discharge damage from both. Element will just be element discharge, while power is raw damage. Element will also have extra dmg appear when you do sword attacks. Your element bonus dmg as it were.
