I just received my book. I am absolutely gobsmacked at how much work you put into it. It is absolutely jam packed with knowledge. It must have taken ages to write. I love it. I highly recommend every Jules fan and London fan buy it immediately!

I love it

I used to live in Swiss Cottage in the late 70s/early 80s. I was a copper working at St John's Wood and one day when answering an emergency call in the Finchley Road I nearly ran over Judith Chalmers who was crossing near the Mc Donald's where your brother worked. As I sped past her I couldn't help noticing how orange her skin was. Later you stood outside my former home at 47D Greencroft Gardens. Thanks Julian for an amazing trip down memory lane.

I wish there was a Joolz for every city, I love his enthusiasm for history.

In 1976, I was but a lad, in my first job as management trainee at J Sainsbury. I was moved from Ballards Lane branch to Swiss Cottage as Grocery Manager. A few months later, I was promoted and moved to Slough. As a goodbye, my colleagues tied me up in a roll pallet, wheeled me onto a fire escape and then pelted me with eggs, flour and other gunge. Half an hour later they hosed me down with the fire hose. Luckily, they had contacted my wife and she had put a change of clothes in my car boot. Halcyon days, and yes, we are still married.

I'm American, but lived in Swiss Cottage in 1979, in a flat above a bunch of shops on Finchley Rd, just across from the Odeon. I vividly remember eating at the Cosmo restaurant with my parents. A few years later, we lived in Greencroft Gardens. Great memories.

3:23 I lived in Japan in the mid-80s and was invited by some neighbors to an event called The Contemplation of the Cherry Blossoms. I was expecting a calming Zen-like experience of sitting outside and admiring the beauty of a park filled with cherry trees in full bloom. Instead it was like a picnic with food, drink, and conversation, but by midafternoon it was mostly a sleepfest with people passed out on their mats from drinking too much sake.

I was on a flight from london to florida when I was a small child in the 1980’s. Paul Daniel’s and the lovely Debbie McGee were on the flights. He stood up and did magic tricks for everyone. Top Bloke!

Another fun fact about the North Star pub, Carrie Fisher used to meet up with Harrison Ford there during their affair shooting Star Wars as it was the only place she could think of after studying at Central years before :) Loved this video! Would love a West Hamsptead one one day 😊

Hi Jules, Gavin the osteo here! I learned to swim in Swiss cottage baths too! Remember the wagon wheels?!!

I'm not sure if you know of these Joolz, but in the late 60s early 70s I as a teenager ( as well as others from all around our area ) from my home behind the famous Elstree Studios use to go to Swiss Cottage to get drunk in the German beer kellers which were in basements as far as I can remember through my beer fuelled haze. Also around then everyone ( including most famous rock stars ) would stop at the Trust House Forte 'Scratchwood Services' on the M1 ( where I also worked ) on the way home, as it was about the only place open all night for food and drink, with a Travel Lodge next door. A lot of famous bands have fond memories of 'getting the munchies' and spending hours in there eating and drinking through their either LSD or cannabis fuelled haze! And another thing is where the shops are lower than the road is where I remember maybe it was the very first branch of the now World Famous 'Agent Provocateur' shop with it's very sexy lingerie and sex toys. 😋😁😋I used to buy my g/f stuff from there always which was quite expensive! 😋😋😋 I used to go to The Roundhouse all the time too to see so many bands on late through the night, and also close by was 'Dingwalls' where we could get a good drink. I'm sure it used to have the longest bar in the world back then! My cousin Shirlie from Wham and her husband Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet used to live in Highgate Village back in the 80s. I'm sure they were friends with Sadie Frost, and if you remember Jude Law and Sadie Frost appeared in an early acting role in a movie where drunk and drugged teenagers trash and rob from a London Shopping Mall. I think the movie was called "Shopping" and was made by Channel 4 somewhere around 1984. Sunday with Joolz is the best kinda Sunday

Per Wikipedia, John Collier's wife died of pneumonia after traveling to Paris to treat post-partum depression (my guess is she may have killed herself). Collier had to marry his dead wife's sister in Norway because it wasn't legal in Britain until 1907 when the Deceased Wife's Sister's Marriage Act was passed.

Lived above the parade (where J Sainsbury used to be) from 1984 for six yers or so, worked in the Swiss pub for a couple of years too. Happy days :)

I love your videos. As a Yank who at this rate will never cross the pond I’m vicariously exploring London thanks to you. Just wish each video started with a shot of where the day’s perambulation is on a map of greater London .

I lived in Swiss Cottage from 1990 thru '91 while stationed at the old Navy building across from the U.S. Embassy. Great memories. I drove my Camaro up to St. Andrew's to see the 1990 Open golf tournament where Nick Faldo bested Greg Norman head to head in the final round. I also drove up to see the Monsters of Rock Concert at Donnington Speedway in '91 (AC/DC and Metallica were two of the groups.

I love these videos. I live in rural Kansas USA. I have always wanted to travel to London and see everything. I love history and historical architecture. Thank you for giving me the guided tours and the opportunity to see all these fantastic things.

Holiday Inn Swiss Cottage is where I spent my wedding night back in 1982

Hi. I was in your lovely city in March and had a wonderful time. I hadn't been to Hampstead Heath so I decided to go and while there eat at The Holly Bush and also find Peter Pan's grave. I didn't find it(should've rewatched your video) but even better....I came across John Constable's grave and his wife's. He is one of my favorite British painters and I'd spent an afternoon at the Tate Britain admiring his work....so It was all perfect in the end. I also made it to the Heath . So beautiful and also so much larger than I'd expected. It's a nice area and I'll want to revisit, along with Swiss Cottage, Dicken's home, and every little side street I can find.

Lived in Swiss cottage at a pub on Adelaide road in the 80s. Aussie fun . Loved it.

Lived in Kilburn/Cricklewood for years and passed through Swiss cottage many a time but always thought it was a soulless place. How wrong I was. So much history. Also you never fail to make London feel like a mellow place, far from my general experience in the area (and probably most others). Love it.

Joolz, yours and Tom Carradine's musical accompaignment this time was just outstanding ... itt fit the mood so well ... :-) And also: it is just amazing how such a video becomes so much more meaningful, if a personal touch is added ... :-)

I have many memories of Swiss Cottage our main base for clubbing was on Rowley Way with the Swedes and it was there that I met Tom Parker Bowles at a Sunday morning afters... the guy he was with was part of the now lobbying group that helped fund Johnson as PM... 23 years ago it was all coke, ,pills and clubbing.... so many other little stories from that area from.98 to 02... I should write a book.

I stayed at the Swiss Cottage Hotel for a month back in 1989 while in the US Navy. Later on I found a flat on 8 Cosway St. I wish I could remember the busy street I had to cross to eat at a McDonald's. I was there over thanksgiving and the staff brought me up dinner to my room. No charge. Beautiful dining room piano lounge. I see it's a Best Western now. I hope it didn't lose its charm.

I enjoyed the video and also the background music. I thought it was Tom singing, but I wondered who the other guy singing was. Wow! from the end credits, I see it was you Joolz, well done. I thought you could sing, and I was right. More duets with Tom in future please.

One of the funniest episodes I've seen so far. Joolz describing auditioning with a Matrix monologue was a hilarious image. Loved it!

Swiss Cottage Odeon on a Saturday morning ! with the organist...

Aw, I'm sad that the Cosmo is gone. I used to go there now and again when I lived in London in the mid 80s to the early 90s. It had an atmosphere that I always thought was quintessentially London, a bit smoky, a bit rusty, not quite broke down but well on the way. A good one today, Mr Jules, thank-you.

Bobbi - it was the Golden Egg I remember walking down the steep pathways from school (Lyndhurst House) to the swimming pool under John Barnes - now Waitrose. It was one of those with the changing booths down both sides of the pool. Replaced by the leisure centre. The pool at the Holiday Inn was nicer.

All those hysterical tourists.

Wonderful, my old stomping ground in the late 1970s.. used to see poor old Ronnie Lane swim at the baths everyday trying to thwart the onslaught of his multiple sclerosis. Loved doing my stall as a student at the flea market 78-81.

oh I live in Swiss Cottage from 1992 to 1998, what a beautiful place to live, 1999 I move off Abbey Rd still here, lot of good memories from Swiss Cottage, now I am in love with Little Venice what beautifull place with lot of great history and great place for walk

Swiss Cottage, what a let down from a young lad from the Lakes. Dad took me up there in Easter time 1965 on one of his working days from Ammersmiff, thought it would be Alps, Chocolate and Wood cabins, never mind, perhaps next time I go there they may be there.

I was born there in Fellows Rd but my family came to Australia when I was 2. The video was extremely interesting.

My first time in London I was walking around and I saw an Our Price, I went in to see if there was something obscure I could get there that I couldn't get in the states. I walked out with the extended live single of Fish, Big Wedge.

In 1976 , I would hurtle down Finchley Road on my Holdworth racing bike en route from my Wst Hampstead home to my Old Street workplace in London's East End . I would pass the Swiss Cottage and the Odeon , but all my concentration was absorbed watching out for the mass of vehicular traffic as I changed several lanes in the traffic interchange . It seemed congested , even then.

Oh fraptious day! Kaloo! Kalay!!!! (apologies to Lewis Carroll). . . . I got my Joolz Guide book on this past Thursday and had decided that if there was no new video this weekend, I would spend my Sunday morning (today) diving into it. If I recall correctly, a friend of mine was talking about possibly going to England this summer . She's been to London before, but since she doesn't really care for "touristy" things, I will get her this book so that she can explore the things that she may not know about. Anyway, off to watch this new video and then peruse my new book! 👏

First single I ever bought was The Jean Genie a classic that I still listen to and love. D'you remember the save the market campaign to save Swiss Cottage Market Joolz I think it was around 82/83 when some bands got together and did a benefit gig including Nik Turners ICU who did a great set that day to a crowd who were mostly off their faces on Orange Sunshine blotters, including myself. Swiss Cottage looked like a super galactic highway in some futuristic metropolis.

Joles ! It was great seeing you at the Lansdowne Club in Mayfair! Keep the channel going, very entertaining and funny.
