Looking for things to do in Zurich? Lindt's Home of Chocolate, located at Schokoladenplatz 1 (chocolate place number 1), in Kilchberg, is only a 20 minute train ride from the centre of Zurich. This Swiss chocolate museum offers both chocolate making courses and a chocolate tour - including all you can eat chocolate. Inside the museum is also a 9m tall chocolate fountain full of 1.5 tons of chocolate!
We opted for both the Lindt chocolate course and the chocolate tour. The course cost 27 Swiss Francs (around $30 USD) and the tour was an additional 15 Swiss Francs. That might seem a little pricey but Switzerland is not an expensive place to travel in and those prices are somewhat par for the course.
The chocolate making course lasts for around an hour where you get to choose between milk chocolate or dark chocolate to ladle into your mould. You're then shown how to decorate your chocolate with raspberries, white chocolate and other assorted items.
The chocolate museum / tour itself takes you through the history of chocolate both worldwide and in Switzerland, how it is made and grown in popularity. For example, Nestlé are credited with the invention of condensed milk which was subsequently used to create milk chocolate - a phenomena within the chocolate world.
At the end of the tour you are presented with ample opportunity to eat as much chocolate as you want. It starts with three different chocolate fountains containing white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. Following this are automatic chocolate dispensers full of the more classic Lindt bars of varying flavours. Finally, there is a room filled with a range of Lindor Truffles, at which point you are likely going to have eaten your fair share of Lindt chocolate.
Lindt's Home of Chocolate also features their largest chocolate shop in the world. The variety on hand is amazing. I had no idea how many flavours were available for the Lindor Truffles and also that Lindt offered hot chocolate and baking ingredients. I believe that some of these are only available in this particular shop.
Overall, it's well worth the half day visit and let's you dive into one of the most famous chocolate brands in the world.
