+Chuck Erxleben I bet you turned up your volume just to confirm that you didn't like the sound. I can imagine it's quite unnerving when you're expecting "BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ".

Nice mill, I have a band-mill but they’re slower than the swing mill. For the critics I’ll point out we can all criticize and everything can always be better. The 40” circle saw I had would cut circles around band and swing mills but it too had short falls. Everything makes a sacrifice for something else.

Great Idea...A simple carriage feed w/power both ways w/on line's on top and a small platform for the sawyer would re leave a lot of 'muscle work". Suggest a pantegraph-arm for electric lines to carriage.Less stress on wire. I grew up around sawmills in Maine...... Put on some 'Willie Nelson" for me...? grins

Swing blades are great if you have no need for anything but dimensional lumber. I prefer the bands simply for the ability to make slab cuts.

redirect the chip discharge away from the electric motor- filling fan with sawdust and will overheat the motor.

Did you make a mill yet? These swing saws are ok, but I don't get why they only made half a mill. A full dimensional saw has 1-2 edger blades and then you are cutting 1-2 finished boards every pass. All you need is a 90 degree gearbox to run the edger blades off the head saw. Offset your head saw to cut before the edger blades , so the cuts intersect without over cutting . Then every pass your making 1-2 finished boards. If I make 1, I will just use two same diameter saw's with replaceable shank style teeth hoping for 12"-14" cut capability.

+Shades shady If you cut to many boards at once you will need more people to get rid of slabs and lumber thus creating a safety hazard. I would be wearing a mask in that environment. I noticed that there was no standing around scratching the willies. Great invention sure is smooth I used to own a portable band mill and wished I would have had a two sided blade as not to waste time and energy on the return, great video I was so into the mill that I barely noticed the music. Thanks.

+Tim Hyatt If one wanted wider board, I suppose they would just cut them to purpose, although most tabletops are glued up(generally made from several 'matched' pieces) anyhow. Instability of a large plank and moreso a regional unavailabilty of larger trees(certain species) on a commercial scale make this the primary reason. Large planks can be had, although its reflected in the higher cost.

+btchhopperou812 as I said, I understand the efficiency of cutting more, smaller dimensions....but as a woodworker, the pieces i've done that have gotten true raves reviews, were all done with wider boards, or slab tabletops... Narrow boards have their utility certainly. But there is a certain atmosphere of monolithicity that can only be achieved with larger dimensions; a glueup panel can approach it, but it never quite meets the same level

+Tim Hyatt A decent swing mill will cut 18" wide... If you are the rare person who needs wider than that, purchase a band mill. Pretty damned simple. Or, do as many have done. Place a circular saw on a band mill for cutting things square and true.

Re-cutting can be done on a different kind of saw for large (wide) boards. Or if there is need for thicker or non-dimensional boards simply stop cutting. That's why the saw goes up and down.

If you really want to lie awake at night worrying about such things, you need to stick with video games for a hobby.

Motor will run cooler if kept free of saw-dust.

As I see the blade runs so fast in the log, that motor is definitely more than 8 KW. Just one note: That motor is placed in a bad position, the cooler fan just sucks in half of the wood shavings. But anyway it has a great, massive structure, just that music has to go...

I have never seen a swing blade saw mill used in the manner shown. What do you feel are the benefits of operating it the way you do. Ie doing all your vertical cuts in successive passes, of which all of the forward passes are cutting backwards against the blade rotation. The usual method is to do the horizontal cut and the flip the saw vertical and pull back thus freeing the board as you move across the log. Is that a DIY mill you have there?

I can see it works quite well. I was asking in regards to the manner in which you saw your boards off the log. What benefit is there to using the method shown in video vs. the way most swing blade saw mills are used?

+Gabriel Kuate Really cool. But in order to provide a cheaper alternative you would need to offer plans or a video describing how to build one. This simply demonstrates what your saw is capable of at your mill. It does not provide a way for someone else to build one. If they have not operated a swing saw then they would not know how to lay out the carriage.

+bwillan Hi having used a commercially made one of these a few years ago if you have the right blade on it. If you cut the vertical cuts first as he did when you swing the blade, the thickness of the board once cut equals the depth of vertical cut. no readjusting needed also allows cut boards to be removed for the next cut. and if you set it out right you can get about a 12" board by double cutting from both sides.

why would you cut 1x4 & 1x6's when a full width board is more valuable to furniture makers, a boarf like that would draw lpts of money

As a mill owner with a barn, home and six large outbuildings, even when I get gorgeous lumber in it may go for beams, fence posts, wall panel or crude siding or dimensional lumber to build or repair a building. A tree is used for what is needed, not for what someone might pay. Most mill owners I know with that attitude have lonely rusty mills. I retrieve stumps for custom stuff. It's what big lumber piles up to let rot. Yet it's the most beautiful part of the tree

Not really efficient the way they are using it. And there is no reason why there can't be a addition to the saw which would allow multiple vertical cuts in one movement. Those two points addressed would greatly improve output this system would put out.

The audio sucks!
