Swing 42; how to play a gypsy jazz violin solo.

Swing 42 is a classic Django Reinhardt composition that has become a Gypsy Jazz standard. In this jazz violin lesson I take you step by step through the chord sequence, pointing out the easy and the tricky bits.
I first try out different ways for the violin to sketch out the chords; using roots, double stops, and arpeggios. I then look at the 4 chord turnaround in the A section, the Gm7/A7 variation in the A section; the second time bar, the bridge, and the section leading out of the bridge.
I demonstrate how to use the major scale, the pentatonic scale, and the major blues scale. I also show five different Stephane Grappelli violin licks which fit neatly into the solo.

Hi John. You're right. Gm6 and Em7b5 share most of the same notes, but an Em chord makes more sense before an A7 chord, as it then fits into the cycle of fifths or II/V/I.
