Great video Mark and Heather!!! Welcome to my back yard!!! I live in Keswick and get to play on this everyday. Might be worth just mentioning that you can’t swim in all the lakes in the Lake District - Thirlmere which you nearly swam in is supposed to be a no go. Also if your transferring between bodies of water you might want to have a look into biosecurity (so that you don’t transfer blue green algae between lakes). If you do the frog graham (the ultimate swim run on my bucket list) you need to have separate wetsuits for each of the swims. It’s part of the reason there isn’t many swim runs in the Lake District. Nice work on the Helvellyn Tri!!!! It’s brutal!!! Triathlon x half for me next year hopefully!!!

Thanks. Yeah, we checked on all the blue-green algae warnings. Thirlmere was an oversight. I read a number of forums where people talked happily about swimming in it. When we arrived I realised we shouldn’t, plus there was a warning for blue-green algae. But a very good point, thanks for mentioning that

The wetsuit overview at the start was great, and got me wondering... would you lose out on much wearing a swim-run oriented wetsuit in a triathlon, vs a triathlon or swimming specific one? @@CherylMuir Are there still rules about preventing invasive species spreading between the lakes? Really nice to see swim-run featured on GTN but a couple of things to be aware of: The first lake featured (with the algae signs) swimming is not officially allowed, probably not a good idea to suggest it on KZread and it would be hard to swim across on the sly! More importantly there is a massive issue in the Lakes with invasive non-native species. It would be good to see you guys raising awareness of this as a lot of people don't know about it. There is some info at www.outdoorswimmingsociety.com/spread-word-not-weed/ it is really important to properly wash/dry equipment between lakes and a lot of locals will use different wetsuits etc if doing a multiswim day, alternatively start swimming at the top of a water course and make your way down. It was good of you not to specifically name the locations although there was enough information for anyone prepared to put in a bit of effort to work out where you went, not convinced you can swim across that first tarn though...the lilies make getting in/out anywhere other than the stone beach pretty challenging. Not surprised it was a bit fresh given all the rain we've had lately, you don't always need a wetsuit though! Good work, great video.

Mark/Heather, Sorry to write this post as I love the show and the video looked great fun to make, but this was the most irresponsible video I have seen yet. Please take a long hard look at yourselves. The fells can be dangerous places where the weather can close in very rapidly. There was no mention of safety, safety equipment to take, and no sign of you carrying it either. Whilst you had a camera crew who knew you were up there and could raise an alert if you didn’t show up in time, you should have emphasised anyone taking on a similar challenge needs to let people know when they expect to finish. The fact that the water was too cold for Heather to swim in the tarn also demonstrates the potential for hypothermia in the event of an accident. Being 700m off course in a mountain environment is no laughing matter.. The dangers of going into the hills with no map, no compass, little equipment and relying on only a watch/mobile phone to navigate by are the basic things that Mountain Rescue are forever commenting on. Not to mention that the lake district is not a free to roam area, so you should not be off footpaths or other by-ways. Lastly, timing this video just as autumnal weather is drawing was simply poor. Come on GTN. You can do much better than this. At least attempt to put things right by way of an apology and safety message on the GTN show.
