Anthem of hope

I love how the jazzmaster was the guitar of choice for most of the cool shoegaze stuff of the early 90s. Such a cool song that I totally forgot about.

There's some incredible bands out today, but the problem is sifting through 10 million to find "the one." During the late eighties-mid nineties as long as you strayed away from the top 40, you were into some super creative and never done before type music.

All you had to do back then was watch 120 minutes (where I ran into Los Swervies myself) and listen to the local college radio station and you would find endless good new music.

Great video from the early days

the early 90's was unbelievable for shows in SF. MBV at slims and warfield. Nirvana at the C&W, Ibeam and Cow Palace. Jellyfish.

Man, to hear this sound at college changes someone's life... for ever and for good.

It’s like an un ending sunrise

Clever young rock musicians free-forming in and era when you could express your talent without nasty reprisals - unless the NME were wanky that week? This is as good as any 'successful' band that I ever listened to in the 90s sounded....and it still sounds brilliant today.

Love this band - they have an individual sound - I love 50s/60s/70s music myself but some of these early 90s bands were brilliant - this lot/Kitchens of Distinction/Cud are three that come to mind - shame Oasis came along and everything went retro.

i meant to say it should be re-recorded w/ the same effects and levels. just breathtaking...

i feel like this song, this version, should be re-released. this rendition would have a special place in modern indie - especially the solo, which should've been in the original recording.

Adam is very nice too. I went to the MM show and he was very kind to me even though I was a drunk.

@yomomsboyfriend I don't know about the cocteau twins but you've named most of my favorite bands from that time. I'm 36 and hate most of what comes out today. I got to see Dinosaur jr 2 years ago at a skate park in tampa. They played all Bug and Green Mind. It was a dream. As for swervedriver, in my opinion they were the best band of the 90's. Creative, amazing squealing guitar, just came out in the wrong year or two. For newer shit, check out BRMC and TV on the Radio

I'm so glad I was in college when this came out, saw them at the Cattle Club in Sacramento a few times. Not to sound too much like my Dad, but, college rock in the late 80's through the mid 90's is soooo much better than what the kids are hearing today. Been lucky enough tho catch some of the crucial reunions the past few years (Dinosaur Jr., Swervedriver, MBV, Pixies - not to mention Van Halen). If only the Sundays and Cocteau Twins would reunite, then I could die.....

Miss Cattle so much my friend ran the bar during the time of those Swerve performances Cattle Club was world class back then hats off to Jerry and Brian doing it for the love of music.

Good point matey - they're a good band but the point is - 1994 - the biggest band were a Beatles copy. 1964 - the biggest band was the Beatles. I'm not even a big fan of the Beatles but at least it was something new and I'd like to think the bands I mentioned were doing something new.

@koolami268 - as I said - i don't particularly like the Beatles - I know all about the Carl Perkins teaching George everything he knew - I'm a big fan of 50s rockabilly/blues/country etc. I never said the Beatles were innovative. I can't see the connection between Swervedriver and Oasis to be honest - it's easy to see where Oasis got their sound from but who did Swervedriver sound like?

That's a good question. I think Adam was heavily into 60s and 70s psych, with a bit of punk, hardcore, post punk, and metal thrown in, but he's far from predictable. And if he reads this he prob thinks I'm a complete prick

The whole idea of them being a copy was spun up by the media, and yeah maybe the dates matched up but it wasn't like they were trying to do that. They didn't even plan on becoming big. Noel thought that the song he wrote were just going to be heard to a few people, and not millions. Just look at the songwriting, only few songs match The Beatles.

A shame! Oasis put a breath of fresh air into rock n roll music! It's great that they came along and added more great rock n roll albums to music.
