Booker must see a lot of himself in Swerve An incredibly athletic and talented guy who worked his way to the top completely organically. He even did it in a company which is currently on a downward trajectory thanks to questionable management decisions Swerve has come such a long way in such a short time. Just watching his matches in the last year or so you can really see that something has clicked for him in the last couple of months in terms of his understanding of how to actually put a match together and do more with less. He used to rely way too much on his athleticism and trying to squeeze as many of his highspots into a match as possible. He's gotten a lot better at making his big moves feel like they mean something. His program with Joe was basically the only thing I was looking forward to on AEW TV as of late. To Joe's credit, he was a great champion, even if his reign wasn't terribly long, and he really felt like such a credible threat.

Man between running a wrestling school/promotion in Houston, his work with WWE mainly all the way over in Orlando, running a podcast, and family life, Booker T must hardly get any sleep. Respect the hustle, retiring is overrated.

AEW has had four White Americans, two White Canadians, a Samoan, and an African American to hold the World Title. That's five years in. How long did it take WWE and NWA to reach that level of diversity? Then again, Tony Khan is the first Indian-American to own a wrestling company. RKK was partially owned by TNA ICW a wholly Indian company.

I was dying for Swerve to win that belt while he's still hot but I ain't really feeling the fact they keep saying he made history as the first black champion!!!! Why he can't just be the world heavyweight champion???? The damn company ain't had 10 champions total yet!!!! Ain't no point in making a big deal out of the fact he's black I say just let the man be champion!!!! That's like saying Mox is the greatest AEW champion of all time lol the damn company ain't 10 years old yet so who is he being compared to???? Fucking Hangman Page???? Stop the unnecessary shit!!!! It'll be a time to acknowledge shit like that!!!! Let 4 more black dudes win then say but Swerve was the first!!!! Him having their belt right now just makes the most sense as their hottest act🤷🏾‍♂️

Hot take, but this "first" stuff is beyond overplayed. Swerve was the world Champion in Major League Wrestling. Throughout the history of wrestling there have been many black champions across several promotions. We say we want equality and then we also want special recognition for doing something that only 8 people have done in the history of that company. What I am trying to say is that no one made a huge deal that Joe was the first ever Samoan AEW World Champion in history. That was because Samoans have a history of holding world titles in many different wrestling companies. Despite Bobby Lashley, Big E, Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry, Sasha Banks, Naomi, Jazz, Shane Strickland (swerve in MLW) Bianca Belair and even our very own Booker T all being World Champions, we still place winning a world championship as some historic thing rather than the norm.

You know what, I wouldn't call it a hot take. Even as a black guy I find it a bit tired in wwe too after how many people of pretty much every race won titles now or days

Your comment far surpasses 'hot take' and barrels directly towards asinine. You act as if we don't live in a society where 'white' (or 'white-adjacent' for that matter) is the default. We keep having to celebrate these firsts because we keep having to break down these barriers. The decision to not recognize Joe as the first Samoan champion was a yet another missed opportunity for Tony, imo.
