Ugh, the F5 belts, the dynamics, and those signature chest to head transitions are otherworldly. Not to mention that crystal clear tone. Whitney truly was unparalleled.

Damn her voice makes instruments sound like interfering noise😥 It's like the most beautiful imaginary color ✨❣️

People who say Whitney only belted need to really listen to her live. How softly she started off this song, Whitney was the perfect vocalist, she gave a song exactly what it needed. That's why so many of them only want to be sung by her :D

Yep. Especially in her early days. She'd sing the song so lightly, but full, that you thought you were walking on clouds with her voice. Then she would hit you with her voice, booming like thunder. Put you in some kind of shock.

millie morales Prince didn't write this song...don't say lies to yourself and don't spread misinformation...this song was written by Chaka herself in 1975, when she was still the vocalist member of the soul/funk band RUFUS!...Just Google it and properly educate yourself...plus...I know Chaka's, Whitney's and Prince's complete discographies back and forth...and nothing that you say is true!...Plus...Whitney and Prince (RIP) are at this very moment in heaven laughing at your stupidity and bullshit!...Just get a grip!!!...

@@mariahyohannes Yep Whitney rarely practice and she changed up how she sings the songs on tbe spot a lot her entire band knew her like the back of their hand and how to align with her but still were shook.

My Mother sang Gospel music. She was in a trio who opened for some big acts. The Blackwood Brothers, The Happy Goodman Family, The Statesman. She taught me what a real voice should sound like. She LOVED Cissy Houston. A TRUE SOPRANO! When Whitney showed up... I had no doubt. NO ONE could top Whitney when she was on her game. NO ONE. I don't care if you write your own music or what! Whitney IS THE VOICE!

Though I love Chakas and MJB versions, I deeply appreciate what Whitney did with the song here. It’s pure gold. Thank you for sharing with us!

It's as if she's holding back from owning this song out of respect for Chaka but yet still made it her own, unintentionally and effortlessly. Whitney was just so amazingly talented.

Oh how I would've loooooooved for her to have recorded this song. It's probably my fav Chaka song of all time - and nobody could do the incredible vocal wailing that Ms Khan does on that track (well, except maybe Patti), but hearing it with the sweetness and beauty of Whitney's tone? Just stunning.

You're not understanding what Whitney gave us.

Tip, most people don't know that r&b singer Angela Winbush wrote, arranged and produced this song in the mid 1970s. Which later, Chaka was given then recorded the song when she was known with Rufus feat. Chaka Khan. Angela didnt received writing credits on Rufus/Chaka album when it was released. The song list Tony Maiden and Chaka Khan and not Angela Winbush as well regarding writing credits on it.

Actually she did all of those techniques in IWALY Her most popular and probably world's best selling and greatest ballad of all time 😂😂 Even though she been showcasing otherworldly agility and dynamics in most of her songs

She sounds so angelic. One the best renditions I have heard of this song.

I remember this entire rehearsal!!!! Whitney didn't herself remember the words. I think it started after another song for the show. T e keyboardist (think) that just made a run in warming up and Whitney liked it so she started singing it knowing It was a Chaka khan if I'm not mistaken Whitney sang backup in one or more of Chaka khans releases Or could have been 'every woman' but Nippy's ear heard what she heard and just starting to enjoy the moment. that's why the backup singers are surprised Lol, they knew the song but did not expect this! Its obvious this was never rehearsed I love this I'm sure this entire rehearsal is available somewhere.

That last note @ 3:17.. why is she playing with my emotions not belting that out longer?! That was beautiful!

Momma Cissy and Dionne was right when they said Nippy at 10 or 11 was downstairs in her basement Sangin Chaka, Natalie, or Aretha lol.... Lord she studied the hell out of Chaka, 1:24, 1:57, 2:10-2:17, its Chaka's twin lol.

Wow! I am telling you those were the days, I feel very blessed to have lived for 47 years and experienced the best of life so far. Whitney's gift has given me comfort and happiness, just listening to her, makes me miss her even more everyday. I love you Whitney, forever missed in my heart. Peace

i wish Whitney came out with cover albums, singing classic congs by other artists, not just soul, but other genres too... it's a guaranteed hit. the comeback she needed. aw, coulda, shoulda, woulda.... i still can't shake off my sadness over her passing.
