Sweet Child O Mine Guitar Solo Tabs

Desi Serna, author of Fretboard Theory, demonstrates his interpretation of the Sweet Child O' Mine guitar solos. This is a great example of using pentatonic, major, minor and harmonic minor guitar scales. This lesson is suitable for intermediate and advanced level lead guitar players.

To those who are struggling w/this solo, you have to do pentatonic, major and minor scale exercises to get your fingers up to speed. This song is very hard if your hands aren't ready. I've been working on this solo for months but it is only because of exercises. Patience and practice repeatedly.

Hi ! Master Desi, I've bought your book Fretboard Theory in iBook, and the other one, Guitar Rhythm and Techniques, also in iBook...both of the books have taught me a lot already, and I'm still learning both of them, it's a lot of fun learning and being able to practice and play what I've learn from the books...I really appreciate your dedication and passion for teaching...God bless and Merry Christmas to you...:)

Just keep at it, You'll get it. I had to learn by ear only...man....folks got it pretty easy today to learn because so many are willing to teach....the only thing to keep any one from being as good as they want to be is simply dedication.. It's time to stay at home, leave the friends behind for a few months and get to work.....It will shock you how fast you can learn with practice.....good luck.....Ps....I'm 67 and still do 3 to 4 hours a day....

First of all desi thank you for a great lesson. I bought your book and it has helped me tremendously. I have on question that has been haunting me for years that I think you answered during the final solo at the 28 minute mark you say you "keep the pick moving playing sixteenth notes even when your hammering on and off" do you mean to keep it strictly alternate picking by ghost picking the hammer on as to not break the alternate picking rhythm?

After the initial downstroke on the bend on the 2nd string, the picking is down on the 1st string, up on the 2nd string (followed by a pull-off), down on the 2nd string again for the bend, then down on the 1st string, up on the 2nd string (followed by a pull-off), down on the 3rd string for a bend, and so on. +Jousef Ibrahim Get a metronome and build speed using that. Start slow and make sure that you're timing and phrasing is correct and then increase speed from there. I see so many young guitarists rushing to speed up but not working on their timing and accuracy. Practice every day and you'll get there.

Peter Bodzak Agreed. I use the fast section in the middle as a practice exercise. Over the years I've built up quite a selection of tricky sections from solos that I use in my daily practice regime. I'll never be able to shred but my playing has improved dramatically since I've been doing this.
