No matter how funny that line is that is still not Swenglish, Swenglish is when someone replace an English word with a Swedish one. Like saying this was fun but replacing the word fun with the Swedish word roligt. This was roligt. That is Swenglish.

Katt1N i would also say Its when you use swedish expressionismens in english and think They gonna understand what you mean for exemple. "If there is room in the heart there is room for the ASS" It means scoop over or If your the one sitting, ofc there is space . But it has nothing with sex to do but i find it hard for a english person to Belive he would understand 😂

@@aptand Uhm, most swedish icehockey players do not play Bandy or have when they were kids... xD Bandy is not why. A lot of focus is on the skating though. They even take in figure skaters from time to time to practice balance and awkward positions. A lot of skating drills done today are from the figure skating scene. Skating is big in Sweden in general which is why a lot of players come out of there, and the bigger the pool, the bigger the chances of getting those really good players.

Did very similar power skating drills taught by a female figure skating instructor when I played years ago. She nearly killed us all. She was faster than us, more agile than us, turned tighter than us, she looked graceful doing it and seemed to use a hell of a lot less energy than us big idiots hehe. Was a real eye opener that correct skating technique can have a huge effect of your game and with practice they allowed us to play harder for longer in a game due to saved effort.

Whilst I am sure there are some good figure skating instructors out there, particularly in North America, I have a different story to tell. In London (UK), I would go skating at a rink and decided to invest in instruction. The gentleman who instructed me was a figure skating coach who charged per 15 minutes. I must have had a dozen or so sessions with him, and only a few years later did I realise his instruction was mixed. He did teach me some good habits, particularly crossing over, however the forward stride he taught me was utterly wrong, and I spent another six months correcting my gait. So, in conclusion, beware of who trains you - you cannot be guaranteed that all figure skater coaches can instruct you correctly for hockey.

An explanation for why Swedish ice hockey players are generally better than transatlantic is origin. Origin of sports. During the 50's, the players often came from another skate sport, bandy. There you play with a much larger rink as a football field (sucker) and may not tackle. This means that speed skill is necessary. It was a long time ago but it set the bar. The tradition is still there today.

I belive quiet and smooth skating is suitable for already strong and skilled skaters. When u learn angles, just cut ice as deep as u can and develope control, after that maybe you can smooth and polish your technics. Just spend enough hours on it. At basic level, sound that ice produce shows you point when, and how rough you grab. It helps to better feel your skating.

Edges are more important than the forward stride. I spent 100 hours on a treadmill perfecting the forward stride technique. In a game situation I use that only a few times per game. However, edges, stops, transitions are far more useful 'in the game' situation, and it is something far more useful. Still, having a beautiful and efficient forward stride is nice.

I play with guys older than 54, and some are weak skaters with poor balance, others are not bad at all. Most of the better players played in their youth. Often it is the bloke who is overweight and looks like a potato who is a beast on the ice.

I think he does means 'smoothness'. Being a smooth skater means having great control of one's edges, ability to hold edges at slow speed, transitioning smoothly on edges, and having an efficient stride. Low centre of gravity, technique and practice also helps become a smooth skater. His English is excellent, and I am sure he knows the difference between mobility, and smoothness.

He also says to "listen to the ice". Be as quiet as you can. Smooth.

I believe he meens flexible. Smidig = flexible in swedish. He also said ”that is the worst thing that could happen” meaning ”if you fall don't worry it's not a problem”
