It's been more than twenty years since I drilled this during my 15 month conscription, and I still know how to take apart and reassemble the AK5. Drills work!

The collar has the branch (Artillery, Air Force, Infantry etc) insignia on one side and rank on the other (in the case of these consripts no rank, therefore branch insignias on both sides). The patch underneath the flag on the left arm says "Livregementets Husarer" (Life Regiment Hussars), which is the regiment they belong to and under it is the regimental insignia. Below that they probably also have a batalion patch. When we where trained on using the tourniquet, we were told that if you ever put one one your buddy, to make sure that they can't take it off, because a lot of the time the pain is so bad a person with an actuall injury might try to take it off because after it's been on a while it causes even worse pain than the injury itself.

The brand on the collar is the dressing type, e.g. Infantry, pansar, Anti-aircraft etc. When you get promoted, you exchange one for that grade you got.

@@CombatReadyHQas recruits they don’t have a rank, so both sides of the collar have insignia for the unit type, like the previous poster explained (armor, infantry, jaeger/ranger, artillery, engineer, signal corps, air force, navy, marines etc.). Once they have completed basic training as well as their more role specific training they get their first rank, similar to PFC. I don’t know how long it takes for employed soldiers in Sweden, but I think 12 months. For conscripts they get the rank when they have completed their training 10-15 months. The left collar (the one above the left arm) will then show rank instead. On the left arm, under the flag, there is the regimental symbol (in their case 3rd cavalry regiment), or air wing symbol in the AF (heraldic patch). However, conscript squad/team leaders might become corporals before they complete their training, although it lasts a bit longer than the training for conscript privates. I believe these kids are conscripts, not contracted soldiers. They wear older body armor (model/90 flak jacket or m/94 plate carriers, soon to be replaced with more modern plate carriers). The regulars have plate carriers (m/94, m/12 or m/23).

On the grouping. Swedish shooting has moved away from the small grouping and you want it a bit wider. You want to hit but you also want your bullets to avoid plate, magazines, radiots etc carried on the torso. Shooting tight also means you take too long to aim. You want to fire at a steady pace, still quick, on target but not dead center of the target. So fast, a bit relaxed, on target that increases your chances of bypassing armor, magazines, equipment and stuff like that that soldiers often carry on center mass

The collar patch is the unit type Cavalry, armour, infanty, marines, airforce. Normally when you are anything above private (menig in swedish) you exchange (from the wears point of view) your right one for your rank. below the flag first if your unit normally your regiment then under it for conscripts is the "general" regiment patch you might notice that some of the officers/instuctors have diffrent patches the first sergent beeing a Para has the para beret and the para company patch for example

There's no recruit badge or insignia. We had to pass fields tripping blindfolded.

When my dad was trained at K3 in the 60's, they had to do the field striping wearing a blindfold. Given that the M/45 barely got any parts compared to the ak5 I can understand why the blind fold is no longer a thing. 😁

I mention in the previous video that the crossed sabres are the hussars sign. When you have them on both sides it shows that you are a recruit but when you move on it gets replaced on one side with a rank sign.

When you are done with this series react to the swedish fighter jet series. Its a bit more shill with the recruits there, i guess because they are already officers.

  • @oddjonsson2815

The patches you wear on your left arm are the swedish flag and your regiment's symbol (usually a reduced coat of arms, but varies greatly), for some the regiment's name is also spelled out which is the case here. So it has nothing to do with them being recruits. On your right arm you wear training patches/ribbons, such as the one reading "jägare" that the instructors have and these recruits will eventually earn. You might also wear specific unit patches marking you as a member of a specific company/squadron but those are usually unofficial. There's really nothing in the uniform that differentiate a recruit from a trained soldier or officer except for rank insignia. At the end of the recruit stage You'll earn your berret but most units wears the cap most of the time anyway but that that differs due to tradition (the amphibious corps always wear their berret, and I mean ALWAYS). Other than that there really isn't any differences in terms of kit but you'll always notice who is a recruit and who isn't, be it from a lack of right arm patches or general manorisms and how you conduct yourself
