What contribution. It's so pleasent to the ears. It's positive and telling you to get up and be happy. I like that it's a group, it's time for a group to win. The song is about helping each other. To see someone fall and help that person up and to get the message out to everyone who hears the song. The choreography is simple, but well thought out, pompous and elegant. The vocals ... everything is musically in place. Perfect pitch. Beautifully heavenly harmonies are just on point. Their voices are so luscious to the ears. And I couldn't feel any fault in the vocals in the ad libs.

As a Swede that works with music, I would have liked that Sweden could have sent Dotter with the song "Cry" 2018, which in my opinion is a much better song than Bulletproof which is too generic for my ears. Dotter seems to be a lovely girl though, so she will have a career and she has many great songs on Spotify. Jon Henrik Fjällgren with his song "Norrsken" could have competed 2019 to show that we have different kind of music because then this song "Move" would have been great to send this year. There are/is a big variation of songs in Melfest and 28 songs are competing each year (some years ago we had 32 songs) and it is the people who vote plus an international jury in the final so it´s democratic and fair. The result will be what it will be and you may like or dislike the result but I think that we should show respect for the artist/artists that win. They don´t deserve to meet a lot of hatred and snide comments. After all ESC was founded in peace, love and understanding. Just because it´s a competition Sweden always gets so much hatred which is so unnecessary and unfair. I find it very strange to expect so much from Sweden as a country aswell. Songwriters from Sweden are helping though other countries to win the competition, like Bulgaria, Cyprus etc. It would be better to skip the voting part and just see ESC as a entertaining tv-show with music and then any country who wants to host the show can do that with financial help from other countries. Anyway, I was hoping for The Mamas and their song "Move" to come top 15 this year as it felt realistic. Sweden do not need to win anymore and many Swedes don´t want Sweden to win anymore for different reasons. I was hoping for Bulgaria this year to win but hopefully they and other countries that haven´t won before will have another chance in the future. Take care of each other and please listen to the artists´songs on Spotify and other forums to support them. That is the least we all can do for now.

Yea I think that JHF is a realistic example of Sweden sending something different that is still authentic to Sweden. However, I thought Norrsken was a little weak and "En värld full av strider" was much better. I liked The Ark as well for being something unexpected, and I still feel like Tokio Hotel should have won in 2013. So Sweden can send these different types of songs, but it just hasnt really happened recently.

The reason why the Swedes do so well every year is that they take it seriously! It’s a platform that is diverse in talent. It’s a showcase for record companies to show off their signings, their stable of writers and for producers to come together and create songs that are quality. A lot of these songs clog up the top end of the Swedish charts BEFORE Eurovision even begins which shows just how much the Swedes get behind their own songs. Not only that....Melodifestivalen is a huge production and spectacle. They invest so much in to it. It’s a platform not only just for Eurovision but also for new talent to launch themselves. We in the UK haven’t had anything like this since Top Of The Pops used to showcase the 8 songs that were put forward for Eurovision back in the day. I know TOTP wasn’t anything like Melodifestivalen, but it’s mega success as a music show made it a similar platform to showcase and launch new singers. Once TOTP tailed off, that’s when the UK started do badly. That’s my belief anyway.

Oh yea i totally used to watch Top of the Pops when I was a kid as well! It was before streaming so if I wanted to hear a song, I had to wait for it to show up on MTV or TOTP. I remember hanging around waiting for "Ooops I did it again" to show up on MTV so I could try and record it!

Ha, the good old days. I have so many TOTP recordings on VHS somewhere! Loved Britney too! If you look up ‘The Great British Song Contest TOTP’, you’ll find the pre-selected songs that made up the eurovision selection show. I feel those years were our most successful years until they stopped showcasing ESC on TOTP.

Yeah I was kinda devastated that Dotter didn’t win, but I feel better now knowing that she wouldn’t have gone to Eurovision regardless. I feel the narrative of the mamas coming back on their own really helped in the televote. That being said I respect the song and it’s a great performance but I couldn’t see it being in the top 10 in Rotterdam unless the juries went all in.

100% agree with you on this one Tom. I think it was the Mamas and not the song itself whowon Melfest this year. You are right that Melfest is very slickly produced but also right that they need to switch it up a bit as the format and mix of song styles (newcomer, heritage, comedy act, repeaters, obvious SVT favourite, etc) is wearing a bit thin. Bet you any money they’ll give the Mamas another slot next year - you heard it here first 😉

I just cannot get the community’s relationship with Melfest. Many nion Swedes complain about it, how it’s old, repetative and tired yet you have people literally from all corners of the world buying tickets and converging on Sweden to watch the event live year in year out. And yes I do believe that all this hype even if maybe unconsciously, produces a general belief that “it’s good because it’s Swedish”. No shade towards Sweden, it’s a country that makes a lot of sense in my book anx who doesn’t love a good old Ikea cabinet or Petra.

As for the Mama’s song, I really liked it :) I like the breathy, feel good, lightness of the song. It’s inoffensive, uplifting and makes you feel happy. The soulful element almost takes me back to one of my favourite movies....’Sister Act’! And that was a feel good movie too!. I really didn’t like Leonora’s song last year. That was far too twee and delicate and was too middle of the road it completely passed me by. I think I ranked it 37th out of 41 last year. I find the Mama’s ‘Move’ has a lot more ‘meat’, soul and depth to it. Whereas Leonora was cotton candy, this is more of a rich chocolate. Totally understand when you say you like things with a little more grit to it however. I tend to like the unusual ones myself, like Iceland last year, Portugal both in 2017 and 2019. But this Mamas effort just seems to really catch my attention, and maybe because it’s a poor year, I had it as my 2nd or 3rd favourite. Hope you’re keeping well in China by the way. We’re now in Lockdown in the UK.

haha yea it is very Sister Act!😂 But now you also made me think of Nuns on the Run! Yea Leonora was just outside my bottom 5 last year, although there wasnt much other songs in DMGP - the Greenland girls with their non existent staging and Sigmund with his epic staging but weak song Yea all is fine in china right now, but the next wave hasnt started yet so not sure what their plan is. At least with the outbreak in the UK, people are getting immunity, nobody has immunity here!

I sooo agree with you! An extremely safe choice. I was so happy when I saw, for example, Dotter in Melfest since she was so much more edgy and current. I do like the Mamas. It's a happy song. But I do not love it. Fingers crossed for something new and current from Sweden in 2021.

🤣🤣🤣 I was wondering how long you could be nice about this entry for!! 6 or 7 minutes?🤣🤣🤣 Yay!!......the real Tom.D stood up...😄😄 I, on the other hand, loved this from the first listen.....it was undoubtedly Sweden's best option this year...Dotter had a good song but her vocals were dodgy. (Would've picked Anna B ahead of her)...The Mamas on the other hand have vocal ability in buckets. This alongside a song with an instant hook and personality to spare, this would have done well in Rotterdam Personally, i think this would've been nailed on for top10 and its appeal being so broad, a much higher placing would not have suprised me (Tom, you are my stats guru....how many 12 pts did Azerbaijan 2011 actually get?....not many if i recall but a heap of 10 and 8 pts........just saying!!!) When you flashed up the image of the last 10 entries from Sweden, i also realised that i liked them all ( Benjamin I, excluded of course 😱😱😱....that should go without saying!!).....I'm not a Sweden-hater at all...its just they are ALWAYS so polished and sterile......i crave something edgy from Sweden....i know it ain't ever going to happen but one can hope, no? I digress, The Mamas rock (well, nearly) and I for one was cheering loudly on that super Saturday! Ps got my limited edition tshirt yesterday...its gorgeous....brought a little tear to my eye!!😥😥

Lol, when I said "I can see why people like this....", what I actually meant was "I can see why John likes this...". I held it in as long as I could and then the truth came out 😂 like its grand, but i just expect Sweden to be more than grand Dotter's vocals were v dodgy, it was quite sad tbh. She was fine in the semi but the tingles moment of the song is the high note and she missed both in the final. as sooon as i heard it, I immediately thought of Margaret 2016 and his victory slipping away. On the plus side, I think its safe to say that if she had nailed the vocals, she would have gotten the extra 2 points to win, so that must have been eating at her. A plus side of the cancellation is that she can sleep at night cos even if she had won, she still wouldnt have gone! Azerbaijan 2011 - lets not talk about that. what a total anomaly shitshow winner. That song wouldn't come Top 10 nowadays. they def deserve to have won but not with that song. Yea Sweden always polished. Id love Jon-Henrik to win for them. Hes choreographed but theres still more authenticity in him. I ordered the limited edition t shirt, the regular t shirt, the poster and an Ireland pin - getting delivered to IReland though!😭

I totally agree. Somebody commented on Dansk MGP that it's a place where risk goes to die; I feel the same about Melodifestivalen these last couple of years. Frans was the last entry from Sweden that I liked. This is just too safe and clean and polished, with all emotion carefully filtered out. I think that it would have been the same as last year: every move and every camera angle from Melfest would have been copied in Rotterdam. It's just all too well thought out; I can't really care for an entry like this. PS I heard you comment somewhere on John Lundvik's song from Melfest 2018, which I did not know until now... Well, I think that Dotter's Semifinal performance is the video that Autoplay put after yours sums up the way I feel about Melfest. Bulletproof is just sooooo good. For the Mamas and Move I fully agree with you. The trio is amazing, they're charismatic and amazing vocalists. But the song is just flat out boring. Melody, instrumentals and lyrics are maybe slightly better than France's the best in me, but the song is completely carried by the Mamas. And I really hate the pre-chorus and the Ooh-ooh-oohh bit, it feels childish and almost like an insult to their amazing voices. Hopefully they're back next year with a truly banging song.

lol @ that autoplay. I was watching the Melfest final and when she missed both the high note "shooooooot" which for me is the key part of the song, I knew she was in trouble. plus she wasnt making eye contact during that part, so it was a double miss. As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of Margaret in 2016, where she was the heavy favourite and it fell apart. Yea "Move" is just too boring. If another country sent this, Id probably be ok with it. Agree with your assessment. This would have qualified, but it would have done nothing in the final because juries would be dropping this a couple of spots and I don't really see this as a massive televote magnet. Given the amount of class acts and fun attention grabbers this would have seemed like a hollow piece of nothingness occupying a middle ground no one is looking for. Imagine 15th would have been a decent result for this.
