Swede Hollow Archaeology Project

Swede Hollow Park, in east St. Paul, MN, has been the site of an archaeological excavation this August. In the past, the park was home to many immigrant communities.
The Swede Hollow Archaeology Project was started by UMN Anthropology graduate students, Kelly Wolf and Stefanie Kowalczyk. The public was invited to participate as well! U of MN Alums, undergraduates and graduate students, as well as archaeologists, retirees, and children helped out during the excavation process.

My Dad, Matthew Manocchio, was born in Swede Hollow. He just passed away in May. His memories of the Hollow were happy and pleasant. His sister,Angie married Noah Sanchelli and when they"moved up to the street", the Manocchio's lived next door to the Sanchelli's. One big happy family!

Hokanson sounds much like Håkansson. A swedish name.
