Swatching My 2024 Daniel Smith Watercolor Palette

Фильм және анимация

After a few requests I decided to upload a swatch video of my new palette for 2024. Again, this is a watercolor palette inspired by Jane Blundell, that I customized for myself, and I'll be mostly using it for urban sketching, landscape painting and will try to get into human figure, including portraits. I use all Daniel Smith colors. Hope you like it!

Like your choices and really look forward to seeing how you choose only six or so for a smaller palette.

I love swatching videos so I’m glad you decided to make this one after all! I, personally, would like to see the travel palette set up. I have a natsume handmade mini palette that only holds 8 colors that I set up when I wanted to try Daniel smith paints. Now that I’ve water colored longer they’re not necessarily the colors I would pick, so I’d be curious to see what your “essentials” would be.

Oh that's a gorgeous palette! I felt tempted to make one myself. That would be an interesting project for the channel, now that I think about it. I'll try to get myself a small palette and put something together. Thank you for stopping by! Have a good one!

Ah, a beautiful swatching video! I loved this, thank you. And thanks for the shout-out in the video. I think you got all the color categories covered in this one. A few favorites of mine are Indigo, similar to Sodalite, and Perylene Violet, similar enough to Indian Red. I also think Lavender is a very useful color for landscapes and water. I loved seeing the swatch of Sleeping Beauty! That's such an amazing color.

I'm gonna have to try that lavender, I've seen some awesome watercolor painters using it and I'm super curious!! Perylene violet is such a cool color, it reminds me of a tasty and dry glass of red wine haha. Thank you once again for stopping by and always leaving such awesome suggestions!

I'm glad you liked it! That's a good idea, I might make a video in the future with my favourite mixes once I explore better all the potential of this palette.

Hi there, I just found your channel and I'm really enjoying your videos. I just started collecting Daniel Smith watercolors a couple months ago... I agonized over the Pigment information and all kinds of crazy stuff and ended up with a pallet that is pretty similar to yours. Some of it was really random. I got the undersea green, burnt orange, and a purple in the 'Secondary set' because it was only $25 for 3- 15 mL tubes. A few of them I went after because they're specialty colors/ pigments that I won't find in a regular set. (and they were reduced in price) I just picked up Veridian PG18 (M. Graham) and PR122 (Daniel Smith calles it Quinacridone Lilic) because of a video Kimberly Crick put out and I find the color she mixes from it astonishing! Sigh, and Cobalt Turquoise and Potters Pink because apparently I'm developing a taste for granulating colors... That might have been from Lindsay The Frugal crafter video on making herself her own granulating palette from paint she has on hand. Also an interesting video. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what you will do with these! Cheers.

I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos as well as my color selection. I definitely think that Daniel Smith are worth collecting. Not cheap but they are super cool. I feel like pigment information although useful can be a rabbit hole, lately I've been paying less and less attention to it and going more by feeling.

@iosebaart I go back and forth. I do a lot of research on pigment information when I'm buying paints, and then I just let it go.

That's an awfully stiff brush for watercolor. Might i insure as to what it is? I'd like to get myself a rigger that stiff.

I like it for lifting color specially. But mostly I use it because I'm very used to it
