Swapping the DROK Current Meter for the JK BMS 4” Display

Ғылым және технология

I was forced to make some changes to the portable power station. I had to get rid of the Drok Current Meter and I ended up replacing it with the 4" JK BMS display. This new display gives me access to a lot of the important battery information directly from the BMS.

I like that jk display. I may get one of them in the future.

Wow I didn't know they had that display available. Very cool. I do like that current meter but this is so much better. Sucks yours went out of whack. I loved mine but it stopped working unfortunately. For no reason too. Darn

Strange it doesn't have a mounting hole array or something. So weird. Smart idea to do a switch. Funny you didn't get the first times on video hahhaa

Thanks. Yeah I knew they had the smaller display but it wouldn’t have worked for this build. Can’t remember where I first saw this one. It’s nice, just could be a little bit “more”…. Seems like they might be doing more with it on the newer “inverter BMS” that JK is coming out with. Those Droks seemed nice, but they’re just too flaky. Like yours they go out for no reason at all.

😂 I’m dead to the world for the first few hours after getting up. Definitely not a morning person…

Hmm, very interesting solution! I myself are contemplating to tear-down my off-the-shelf Solarstation (GoalZero, utterly cr.p) as the solar-inputs no longer seem to work properly and the inverter is not up to spec. Rip all the internals out and repurpose the battery (etc). But I will go for the JBD BMS as it does have charge- and discharge-control via a switch and does have display-sleep (etc). Your challenges (and occasional mistakes haha) helped me greatly, so a big Thank You!

Adam I'm wondering if what you're seeing on that BMS isn't due to the BMS needing a startup voltage, typically 5V higher than your battery voltage. My issues have been due to this phenomenon. These things aren't designed to be in battery boxes but rather fixed installations where you have ONE startup and leave it. Just a thought

That’s an interesting thought. From what I’ve seen, the BMSs that have a startup button don’t need a specific startup voltage (outside of the battery not being completely dead). I do agree thought that these BMSs don’t seem like they’re designed to be shut down and started up a lot.

Ok so I decided to punish myself. I've bought the same BMS and display as you. Should be here in a week or so. Let's see if I also get that weird power on issue

Good luck! It only seemed to be an issue if I turned off the bms for longer than a few min.

Does your ANL fuse run warm when pushing 75% of rated current?

I do recall seeing it run warm when it was running the 12v system in the barn. That was one reason I ended up switching to the Class T (back then).

@AdamDeLay07 thanks, I'm having the same issue on my 12v system.
