Concur. While he clearly has a lot of expertise and knowledge of how these animals run, you can't ever really know with 100% accuracy what's in another creature's head or how it will react. I hope saying he's in complete control was active hyperbole. Anyone working that close to something so dangerous should keep a healthy wariness.

As a fellow Floridian, Gators are very simple creatures and that’s why they’re so easy to deal with. They only have a handful of thoughts, wants, and needs and if you follow a few basic rules you’ll be fine. They’re not like other predators like bears, big cats, canines… etc. those are much more complex emotionally and psychologically and it’s hard to tell what a bear or coyote might do, but a gator… they chomp when hungry, investigate when curious, and leave when there’s nothing of interest or the risk isn’t worth the reward. Gators know that they’re literally bulletproof, they don’t get skiddish and lash out like a scared canine or cat… they’re not going to test you like a shark or bear by probing your defenses and taking little swipes and nibbles. Either they chomp, or they don’t. He’s a bit cocky but he’s right. It’s common for gators to be in your yard, or in the street or in the ponds near playgrounds so all of us learn to deal with them as kids. It’s technically illegal to harass them, but sometimes they’re holding up traffic or sunbathing on a playground and you gotta just grow a vagina, toughen up and go lure that gator away from the kids or out of the road. To be clear, do not go try to play with gators. You will get chomped and eaten. Like anything dangerous it takes a lot of experience and exposure to learn and one mistake will be your last. Leave it to the crazy rednecks.

Lol growing up in Florida & having to deal with gators sounds very similar to how I grew up in North Idaho with moose, bear & cougars being the main animals we had to watch out for in terms of possibly being aggressive/attacking us. There was a couple different times we had to have recess inside the school some days because there was a mountain lion in the area that would occasionally lay under one of the swings on the swing set. The school was/is surrounded by mountains & forests, so there was always some kind of critter running around on a regular basis. One morning, I had to be late for school because a baby moose & its mama were literally right outside my front door. I went to leave for school, open the door, and there on the sidewalk was a calf while the mother was a few feet away eating in the yard. No way were we going to try to scare off a mama moose in that situation. Lol. Moose, of all things, were some of the most common & most aggressive animals we had to worry about. You’d see them hit on the side of the road almost as often as I see deer hit now that I live in western MD, and only about 6-7 minutes away from WV, 15 from PA & about 20 from VA, so still surrounded by mountains & woods, but just on a much smaller, less rugged scale & without as much big wildlife.

I completely believe he has some control and hes extremely knowledgeable about these guys and I also dont believe theyre generally a threat to humans because hes completely right they are a lot more chill than theyre given credit, theyre not just some monster. They usually do just keep to themselves. BUT even with all that they're wild animals and theyre all individuals they may not all always follow these same routine behavior patterns. I don't think he should stop doing what he loves and hanging out with these animals but I think believing youre completely in control is a dangerous mindset to have around any wildlife. If youre educated and youre passionate then yes if this is what you want to do, do it but there is absolutely a risk to it and you are not in complete control just because youre knowledgeable.

Steve Irwin never had trouble with crocodiles and alligators, he died to a Giant Stingray going into labor that, by sheer probability, swung its tail into the one unguarded spot in the human chest by complete accident. And that other dude I haven’t heard of besides hearing he was just an idiot, rather than a professional.
