Man that looks good. I know all too well about working in the heat. I’m just happy it’s below 100(F) today. Think it’s 98🤣. Man everything except 1 item i have got from SW Motech came with instructions in German. Glad they offer instructions on the website. The only thing i have issues with is the center stand for the ‘22 AT. I had to slightly modify it to keep from hitting my swing arm and the springs are very weak. They are sending me a new center stand of a new design. Very happy with customer support.

Nicely done Pete, I hate spannering in the heat, you did well to get through it with the filming as well. I've never seen a bad thing come from SW Motech, and that looks a well meaty guard with excellent, strong mounts. I live the same nightmare every oil change, have to get the damn thing off and back on! Need both feet under the guard, both hands holding the loose mounts and then I just have to Jedi mind-control the spanners 🤣

Mod looks substantial and will hopefully do its job well. I'd be real nervous having to use a grinder on shiny new parts but it worked well - brave move 😁 Just a thought, seeing as you broke your jeans (oops) I use Scruffs work trousers - loads of pockets (so you can forget which one you put the important bit in) and most importantly they have reinforced knees which accept kneel pads. Not joking, they really help my aged knees while grovelling about around the bike. They cost about £30 and IMO money well spent. Anyway ta for sharing your hard work, cheers, Andy.

The more I think about this the more it’s bugging me, it’s either very poor design by Mo tech or designed to make you buy the crash bars. Surly Mo tech would know the customer who buys this will probably already have crash bars fitted? I know it’s not my bike or my decision but it just seems poor that you have had to modify you oem equipment for aftermarket sump guard?

@@iangriffiths9930 sadly it took Aprilia way too long to get their crash bars out to customers, so for an aftermarket company to know how they were going to design them wouldn't be possible. Aprilia accessories are stupid money, the panniers and top box are around £3k+ Even BMW are cheaper!

Very helpful! I am wondering why SW-Motech doesn't make an alternative mounting bracket that is compatible with the OEM crash bars. A similar bracket except the inside diameter (I.D.) fits over the outside diameter (O.D.) of the OEM crash bar mount. That would appear to provide proper support. Perhaps the issue would be limited ability to make it fit tightly.

If I installed the Heed engine guards I wouldn't have used the spacers. You sure you didn't get spacers with the SW Mototech plate? Don't think you should have that big gap at each side of it. I'll get my dealership to look into it in March when it has its service, I'm not concerned though, as it is most likely from me topping it up. The bike does use a little oil, but so did my old 1050 Speed Triple and several other bikes I've owned, certainly not at an amount I am concerned with.

How did you get the 10mm bolt out (at 10:38)? As you say you can’t get a socket on and I can’t get enough torque with just a spanner on. Edit - disregard, a ring spanner sorted it

Aye, would be nice if they came with a decent one... trouble is, the majority of adv bike owners don't ever get their bikes dirty, so they are not needed. But even enduro bikes don't come with decent protection either sadly.

Great job, thank you. Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed with SW-motech's solutions. In my humble opinion, their handguards fail on the assembly side. I had to find mine by combining Barkbuster's parts. This cover also lacks more engineering thinking. Cutting original things? You are brave sir 🙂

Ty Nath. Ahh that is a shame regarding the handguards... did you contact SW-Motech to see if they could help sort the issue? It would be nice if the sump guard didn't require me to modify the Aprilia crash bars, I've heard the H&B crash bars are compatible with no mods, as are the SW-Motech engine guards obviously. The fit and finish of it looks great, certainly looks tough.

@@HippoDrones No no. I canceled my order for their Tuareg hand guards. Hi Paul, I've never owned a BMW to compare it to, and this is my first Aprilia, although I have owned 2 Moto Guzzi bikes (still own one of them) who are from the same company (Piaggio Group), they were perfect for reliability and so far my Tuareg has been spot on, I have given it some abuse too, covering long distance rides on tarmac, camping with it, and trail riding some pretty gnarly trails and the bike has taken it all in it's stride with no reliability issues. I am on several Facebook groups and forums, have not really heard many horror stories on reliability on the Tuaregs.... Main thing people complain about is the heat from the catalytic converter, where they say it is uncomfortably hot... although I don't find mine any hotter than my GSXR. I have had a slight stutter/hesitation from the engine at set speed on a neutral throttle at 30mph and 40mph, which a few others have noticed, but it is intermittent and I've found it less of an issue on mine since fitting heated grips, but it does still occasionally happen.
