SVS Ultra Evolution Speakers: Introduction & Acoustically Centered Time Alignment
Ғылым және технология
Part one of a three-part video series where SVS President Gary Yacoubian, Chief Designer Smith Freeman, and Vice President Nick Brown discuss the Ultra Evolution speaker's design philosophy and enclosure engineering breakthroughs.
In this video, the team covers the inspiration behind the new series and the acoustically centered time alignment speaker cabinet architecture. A curve in the front baffle aligns the sound emanation point of the tweeter and each driver on a vertical plane ensuring sound from each driver arrives at a listener’s ear in the exact same instant. This maximizes phase coherence for a more convincing and immersive soundstage with pinpoint accuracy and imaging.
For the tower models specifically, midrange drivers and woofers positioned above and below the tweeter allow for seamless crossover blending to create an idealized “point-source” where sound flows from a single point in front of the speaker to optimize dispersion characteristics.
Consisting of seven new models featuring advancements in driver design, cabinet design, and component materials, Ultra Evolution speakers usher in a new era of reference quality sound for SVS.

I was really bummed when I saw preliminary pricing posted in forums saying these speakers were going to be exponentially more expensive ($10,000 for towers). Couldn't be happier to see that wasn't true. Nice work, SVS. I will say that it would be hard to make the naming of the speakers any more confusing. Common, marketing department. Can't wait to hear them.
SVS does not mess around!! They have been super supportive of the products that I’ve bought from them. Man - I really need these!!!!
The production value of these segments is great.

You guys knocked it out of the park on these! A lot of hard work no doubt. Congrats on the launch!
I look forward to hearing these new speakers. I feel that I can attain them next year.
Pure awesomeness!! 😎 Time to start thinking about another upgrade from my already awesome SVS system! Woo hoo 🥳
And so….my next speakers have been found. I really appreciate your enthusiasm and sense of being real guys. You make me want to work for SVS, but I’m older than all of you. My only decision will be size (not $). I fear the Pinnacle might be just a bit too much for my space…let the measurements begin…..Congratulations to you all!
Very curious to hear the reviews come in. These definitely have serious potential.
Man, these look amazing!
Really wish SVS would get a walnut wood instead of just black oak in their speakers and subs. I personally would never buy glossy anything again. These speakers sound like they will be great though

I have twin SVS SB16 sub woofers in gloss black and they look amazing. The black looks modern and cutting edge. Brown wood went out of style 30 years ago. They are not making speakers for folks in their 80s.

@@lw6323 I’m not even close to 80 knucklehead! That’s what having different options is all about, everyone has different likes & dislikes. You like the gloss crap, I & a lot of other people don’t like it. Why do you think most audio companies still make the wood finish speakers & subs, especially since you think that went out of style “30 years ago”? Because people buy them, and not all of us are so sophisticated & cutting edge as yourself.
I will definitely consider upgrading my Ultras.
Did a first test with the SVS ultra evolution bookshelf. Oh my dear , what a great sound. Greetings from a Belgium 🇧🇪 dealer Dovel TV 🔊🇧🇪🔊

This concept has been around since the 70's. I believe it started with Technics making their Phase Linear line of speakers. I bought a pair of the Technice SB 7000-A speakers in 79, and they sounded great. Guessing the SVS will also.
Put in my order today for the titan glossy piano Black. Unfortunately they don’t ship until April 1 but patience is a virtue they say. UPDATE: SVS notified me they’re shipping the pair out today. Nice 😎

Heard them in Montreal Audiofest, they sounded really good.
Excited to hear! They look great
so many speaker companies (even high end) lack driver time alignment. Well done all the best for these awesome looking speakers

Gorgeous looking speakers! I'm looking forward to upgrading my rear surrounds to the Ultra Evolution Nano and my two front heights Elevations to the Ultra Elevation
What I've learned since I became a home theater enthusiast, a speaker with excellent time alignment is always the selling point. I started budgeting for the Prime Towers a while back but now with the new Evolution towers I will be patient and wait a few more months. I'm those type of people that pays my credit card balances at the end of the month.
Congrats fellas!
I.need this in Nigeria too . Congratulations for this SVS Evolution Speakers
Intrigued. Wondering if there are plans to offer a wood veneered finish on the models for an upcharge? A big black or white monolith will not get past the spousal acceptance factor.
So excited they finely are here, right at time as u wanted it to be in Q1 :P When can we see/read others review, first when reviewers buy them and record some or have some already received them and waiting to upload videos ? Cant wait to hear them for my self :)

I've always been an RSL speaker and subwoofer fan. RSL speakers sound quality and value for your money is unmatched in the industry. But I hate to admit it the new Evolution towers and center channel speakers tempt me.
Wow. People that can host these speakers in their living space will be able to be transported to a new space and time. Please send them to Andrew Robinson to engage their audience.
please do a video on the parts quality of the crossover

Love SVS subwoofers. I own three of them. I've got to ask the burning question though. I understand completely where you are coming from with the time alignment. I own a pair of Canton vento Tower speakers and they do not have time alignment but they sound absolutely phenomenal. In every regard including Imaging and Sound Stage. How is this possible if they don't have time aligned drivers? Let alone almost all manufacturers of speakers not having time aligned speakers and yet they still can sound very good

I've been around a bit...well made speakers can have great imaging without time alignment, but SVS has added this ability to go even further. To evolve, so to speak!

Great question. There are a few design tools and techniques that can be used to align the acoustic output of the drivers in the time domain. The crossover network has both frequency and time/phase properties, and some level of driver time/phase alignment is achieved in the electrical domain of the crossover network. With that said, optimizing the physical geometry of the front baffle is another design tool that can be used to further optimize the time alignment of all the loudspeaker drivers.

They can be driven with a standard AV receiver but will really open up with higher quality front end amp and preamp combo. Recommended power for tower models is 20-300 watts.

One of the most time-consuming aspects of tuning any passive speaker is every aspect of the crossover design and component selection. All dimensions of the speaker’s performance are rigorously judged objectively and subjectively with every component choice. Components are carefully selected for their purpose in the crossover network - not just for material properties, but also for power handling and even the physical position on the PCB. To that point, even the PCB material and trace layout is scrutinized for ease of current flow. Regarding air-core vs. iron-core inductors and film vs. poly capacitors - we use both types of each depending on the specific electrical and driver requirements. In the end, crossover tuning is as much art as is it science and engineering as the slightest component value change can influence the overall tonal balance of transparency of the speaker.
🎉🎉🎉
I’ll be waiting for the real wood finishes.
Way to make it sound like a commercial
Nobody talks about how they sounded? and compared to what?????
What’s the price on this speaker
If can train my old ears for these acoustic centered time alignment speakers and sell my Ultra bookshelf speakers then I may buy the new Evolution speakers. Last, the old ears have tinnitus (ringing) 🥺😄

Exactly
I believe John Dunlavy beat you to time alignment of the drivers but probably not at your price point.
But you make models w/ 10" & 12" woofer versions riiiiight? Please dont say 10s or 12 arent necessary w/ passive radiators
they should also do an even bigger center channel, the ultra evolution center is far too small to pair to the big Pinnacle towers , they should build a "Evolution Tower" sized center channel with all front firing woofers and front firing ports.
Funny how in the speaker business old ideas keep getting recycled over and over, they look great though!
It’s a box with divers. Congrats.
Im skeptical about the tweeter quality.
Sound travels so fast that two inches can't make an audible difference when it comes to "time alignment." Much more important is cabinet construction, quality of drivers, and quality of the network. But the design looks great.
I find the ultimate ears hyperboom roundness and highs are far better than SVS...just sayin
You get what you pay for there is never a free lunch, this price goes Open Baffle. But they do give you a lot of speakers for the money, but sound that will be another story. Their past speakers were bight, like many speakers today all highs for detail and lows for impact, but weight, body, and soul MIA. A big gap of music lost. Listen to a speaker from 40 years or more a Dahlquist DQ 10 would spank many speakers today for reproduction sounding like real music, not hi-fi to impress, but you grow tired quickly.
@dan70cutlasssx

I've never found them to be bright. As have many people I know, consider them laid back. Focals are bright.
Time alignment was done way before you ever thought of it. It is nothing new.
a bit overpriced
The form factor, the cabinet architecture, acoustically centered, point source, blah, blah, blah. All of this has been done before, and will be done again, by companies that put speakers in boxes. There is nothing evolutionary at all here.
The sound may sound great, but the look turn me down. Will not consider it at all.
"tell me if im right about this, a very rock solid...." You mean to tell me you're this much of a "speaker guy all your life" but you are not positive of how these sound? yeah don't trust you at all with these.
BS Engineering ... such a marketing hype ... where is the group delay graph? .. you can adjust GD by choosing a different filter slope! .. or use protruding cones like Focal does for some years recently ....
