Svend the Viking Karlson! 🇳🇴 One of my All time Heroes! ❤️
Svend is quiet a legendary strongman and a truly lovable caracter....
I love when he growls at the shovel and throws it away :)
One of the best Showmen in the sport 3rd, 2nd, and 1st at WSM I emailed him once and he replied nice guy!
NORDIC POWER lol, gotta love Svend.
I absolutely loved watching this guy compete

Wiking 😉😀
I love that colin bryce narrates these lol
Epic Romeo&Juliet-Theme in the beginnig!
The man is so talented and has such humor. That kind of training is so incredibly hard and few ever glimpse the way it can tap , drain, ones humor. The strength of these strongmen is so insane, it's beyond anything most could ever know as far as force of will.
4:14 - hahahaa... Svend is the best!!
Svend was one of the strongest men in the world. What I really didn't like about mariusz pudzianowski's reign as strongest man in the world, was alot of the maximum weight events [deadlift, squat, overhead press] etc. Became speed events, because that's what mariusz pudzianowski was good at. So was mariusz pudzianowski, the strongest man in each of the fields that he competed in, IMO, no. But then again, i'm just a dude on the net and not the guy in charge of the events and what not. Awesome upload dude.

Strongman is very much a mix of the 3 lifts powerlifters do (not exactly the same criteria) and other events which are full of speed, and great champions that dominated the speed events like Mariusz, Jon Pall, Hafthor now (although he is a beast too in static events) have always existed, and i think is a very integral part of this, those 3 lifts are just as iconic to strongman as the yoke, the atlas stones, running with 100+kg stones, etc... for a powerlifter is valid what you say, but for a strongman, you're either at least good at both or you're nothing.

And 10-15 years ago we were seeing an era of other good competitors at dinamic events, like Joukko Ahola and the other guys.

I'm a fan of an equal combination of static and moving events.

Marius was incredible but one event they shld have is olympic clean and jerk. As a standard also always deadlift squats and log press
I wonder what Svend is doing these days. Is he still training? Is he retired? I'd love Colin to do another documentary about the older and retired semi-retired WSM and WSM competitors.

He has serious health problems now unfortunately.
to me, this guy was stronger than Magnusson and Ahola, the reason he didn't win WSM more than once is because he was either injured or he wasn't smart like Magnusson or Ahola while competing, they used to save their strengths at their weakest events to do better at the other events in the finals, but Karlson was pretty reckless, he tries to do his best at every event, loses his energy and risks getting injured, he wasn't really smart, but he was very brave and strong, and surely 1 of the best in WSM history...

i agree that sven was super Strong but i think personaly that Jouko Ahola was as Strong if not stronger than karlsen

@@jesserapo just depends on the lift , good luck outsquatting Karlsen , i would give Jouko the edge in deadlifts tho
The man doesn't eat much for his size... His size/strength comes from his genetic Viking POWER
love that rep count on the log 15 minutes in lol
He reminds me bit of actor Rutger Hauer

Bodybuilding was the worst thing he did. All the diuretics ruined his kidneys.
The development of this sport under the last 10-15 years has been incredible. Today the weights that Svend used to max out with are used as a warm up for the bikini fitness girls.

There has certainly been a development of the sport, particularly in terms of what the Arnold has done for strongman. Not so sure about the bikini girls... To me this Karlsen will always have a place in strongman history as a very strong individual.
