Suzuki V-strom 650 Most Underrated ADV Bike Ever Produced | 1 Year Ownership Review & Mods

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Is the Suzuki V-strom 650 the most underrated adv motorcycle ever produced? We would say absolutely! I have owned this bike for a little over a year now and just wanted to give you my thoughts and opinions on it. I have ridden this bike over all different types of terrain and taken it on many long adventure trips and motocamping trips and it's performed great. In my opinion this is one of the most underrated adventure motorcycles money can buy. They can be bought at a reasonable price and take you pretty much anywhere you want to go. So if you are looking for a great adv bike without having to refinance your house to buy it then definitely check out a 1st gen V-strom 650. As always thanks for watching and please consider subscribing.

The Walk around starts around the 6:20 mark also I forgot to mention it doesn't have front turn signals anymore. I broke one and just never replaced them. Here's the 1st video of the walk around of the bike when I first got it kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zmmqu6OSfaS9nMY.html

I have a 2012, absolutely love it! I haven’t done any real off road riding, mostly just gravel roads, buts it’s been a great bike! For a long time it was my only bike, and it did everything I wanted it to do. 2 up highway, fast in the twistys, motocamping, commuting, and of course, the aforementioned gravel roads! Hi from NZ..I found one by chance at a jetski shop. Was a trade in and the guys had no real idea and neither did I but it was super cheap, had just sold my bike and was looking for something to cruise around on that could handle some dirt roads (of which we have many). And it was totally mint. A white one. 2008. Took it for a ride, came back and bought it. 2016? Owned it for 3 years. One of my favourite bikes. A bit heavy...and top heavy with it. But that engine mate, it's the sweetest and best geared I'll ever own. Super comfortable. Rock solid in the wind. Good protection. And to my eye a very handsome bike. Yours is sweet in gunmetal. Safe riding mate. Cheers from Godzone.

Great review of the DL650 Greg! The V-Stroms are great bikes. You guys really do a great job putting them through their paces on your adventures. Strange thing is, Suzuki came out with the new one, the 800DE which is a parallel twin instead of a v-twin. The torque from the v-twins is awesome but I guess Suzuki had other ideas. Great review, great riding and loved the video! Cheers!

Great review! I bought my '08 650 for commuting and touring with the ability to take some dirt roads if I wanted to. First time I hit the dirt (on road tyres) I couldn't believe how comfortable and confident I felt. I went on some tracks I definitely shouldn't of on those tyres though, went to 80/20 tyres which was good enough for 90% of my riding then 50/50's because I just can't resist those hillclimbs and mud. As for the cast wheels I do have some decent dents in my front wheel from hitting rocks hard and I don't drop the pressure either. I like the 19" front, it's a good compromise for on and off road .

I picked up a brochure when it was first introduced. It was considered a street bike by Suzuki. When they finally realized some riders were off-reading, and ADV was becoming popular did they actually make the bike somewhat off-road capable. Thanks for the great videos, do you know what year yz250 footpegs those are ? and did they just mount right up or need mods? and i have a suggestion for you on your seat, i have been running a custom modified seat with no dip in it, where you sit , so it looks a bit like a dirt bike seat and i love it. it does not work if your short and i think between that and your lift you would have to be close to 6ft for it to work. But it is my best mod to date.

Thanks. I couldn't tell you what year the pegs are from. They were on the bike when I bought it and the PO didn't tell me the year. I would say pretty much any year would work and they look to be a direct replacement cause there's nothing moded on the bike itself. The seat mod sounds really cool. I've seen them on the newer ones but not a 1st gen. I'm 6ft so I'm sure I could touch.

Have a 2011 I bought new. Unfortunately, we do not have this type of riding where I live in Washington state, but I sure wish we did. Gravel Forest Service roads are no problem, but anything off them as single track in this video is extremely steep and a challenge for any bike. I have had suspension work at both ends, and tires, skid plates, etc as this bike. I like the bike very much, but no one should consider it on par with say the DRZ400, and I have one of those rascals too. The DL650 is a 500 lb. machine, and jumping logs, etc. is not something to be dismissed as easy, no picking your way over boulders in a creek crossing. I am running a 13 tooth countershaft sprocket to enable some low speed manuevering.

They are great bikes but definitely not a dual sport. I ride mine in places a lot of people wouldn't but I've been riding for a long time. Log crossings are fun and doable on a V-strom as long as the log isn't too big. You're right a 500 lb bike is hard to just ride over anything without a good bit of rider effort. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it 👊

Agree. I only wish that such trails as your video existed here. I can ride such ground as in this video without problems even as I approach 75 years of age, but throw in some loose or large rock on a steep hill, and I suffer the "pucker factor"...and that is from experience on this bike. Even walking off a trail or road in my area is perilous and that applies to those well under 75 years old. @@TheBeardedGrump

I had two of them for nearly 50,000km. Did everything commuting, touring multidays, two up, gravel roads + some offroad pushing the limits. Great bike. Main limitation for me: a little bit more ground clerance would do wonders. The rear abs offroad was a bit unnerving at times but can deal with that. The new 800de seems to have addressed some of those while keeping the same philosohpy. Looks promising. You can still pick up used low km 650 or 650xt that would provide anything you want. But in this era of spec sheets and transformers looks, the vstrom are not so popular. Great video

I've lifted this one a little bit and picked up about 3/4 of an inch of ground clearance which has helped. I also pulled the abs fuse to disable it. I never liked the way the abs felt on or off road. The 800 looks great but I probably won't be buying one. Thanks for posting. I’m interested in your stator issue. What year is your 650 vstrom? What were the symptoms of the stator failing? Did the regulator or other charging system components also fail? I just bought a completely stock 2006 650 Vstrom with 22k miles and I’m looking into getting a crash bar and bash plate like the one on your bike. I saw the bars said ‘Heed’ on them, so maybe the plate is too. I liked it because it didn’t block air flow to the oil cooler. Anyway, I’ll look for your other videos, too. Thanks again. R.

The stator just quit working all of a sudden. None of the other components were hurt. My 650 was an 09 and the crash bars were heed but not sure about the skid plate. I have a video on replacing the stator and also some other videos of mods I did to that bike. I currently have a 14 V-strom 1000 but I recently had an accident on it and broke my back. When I can get back to riding I don't know what bike I will get to ride.
