Suzuki Swift GLX Review

Dare I start by saying welcome back to an old favourite?
I have often stated that the Swift is my choice in the affordable hatch segment and I recently awarded the title of MotorMatters choice for a 1st car for a student.
With big shoes to fill, the Swift returned to our driveway in GLX spec. To the younger millennial buyer, this is the default choice in the range because it's the only version that offers Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity. Perhaps it's time for Suzuki SA to look at the spec levels of the GA and GL variants?
All models are powered by the very familiar 1.2L 4 cylinder that delivers 61kW and 113Nm through a slick 5 speed manual transmission. An AMT automatic option is also available.
Light weight is a major part of the Suzuki recipe endowing cars with relatively low power outputs to still provide sprightly performance and good cruising ability. Our traditional road trip was undertaken in the company of a large, luxury and performance SUV yet the Swift had no problem keeping up on the cruise.
GLX spec includes items like the connectivity, touchscreen, reverse camera and auto air conditioning. ESP (electronic stability programme) is now standard across the range adding to the excellent road-holding and handling that the Swift is renowned for providing.
The other Suzuki standard is fuel economy and we averaged 5.3l/100km for the test period. This falls into the excellent category.
The Swift range is currently priced from R184 900 to R222 900 as tested and a 5 year/ 200 000km warranty plus 2 year/ 30 000km service plan are included.

I just dont understand people in USA. They complained so much about this car ( when they were selling it in USA) that Suzuki got so offended by that and stopped shipping in USA. In Europe - we apsolut6ely ADORE this car.. Japan Asia - they all love it - even in Mexico where its sold now. I cant talk about India model since its much cheaper and they cut cost making it worse than the Japan made - Africa model too.. But original made in Japan car ? Its so good ! I own Swift GL Hybrid 2021 and it doesnt pass 5l in city and on open road driving 140kmh + . So easy to handle so drivable and light 😍
I have ordered, paid deposit and waited almost a month. Getting my Fire red, super accessorized GLX next week.!! WOOOOHOOO After watching your review I am even more excited ;)

Thanks for this wonderful review. But how does the servicing and parts cost compare to Toyota? Is it more expensive?
I just heard they have run out of GLX model at Suzuki dealership. What a dope car 😶

hey brother., i have a question but first of all thanks for the videos and the knowledge regarding cars we really appreciate the contents.. my question is can you install a Suzuki Swift GLX/Sport radio on suzuki swift GL or GA..??

Suzuki has an excellent reputation for reliability, plus they offer a 5 year/ 200 000km on new cars

It's basically a Toyota, and very reliable. J have the 2022 face-lift, got it 2 weeks and enjoying it🙂

Sound has greatly improved to be honest
A top spec car with incandescent reflector headlights? I don't understand why we get overcharged for minimal safety features. In other countries, this car comes with projector headlights

We’re the same country that allows cars like kwid and Datsun go on the roads so manufacturers will capitalise on safety loopholes
Auto folding mirrors? I saw one auto folding. I also have glx but the mirrors don’t auto fold? Anything I can do on settings?

This would really come down to personal choice and preference. They have the same drivetrain. Possibly the biggest difference is ground clearance, if you do travel on dirt roads often.
Does the car lock outomatically when start driving away ?

Not as standard, I'm not sure if it can be programmed in the settings
Microphone upgrade please
Can it do long trips, around 1000km

Will do it with ease. Possibly the only limiting factor is the small fuel tank, but stops for fuel will break the long drive
