Our little one .. barely tall enough in that studio when she was six .. so happy when she got a phrase right .. she's a woman now .. with Priscilla Presley hair and her black leather outfit in homage to Elvis. That was the same guitar Elvis used in the iconic 1968 tour, by the way .. What a storyteller she is .. brilliant, moving and magnificent in every way. Deb, for sure a lot going on in this video. Watch it and enjoy it about 10 more times and you will start to pick out all the Elvis elements in it. Deb, I think this is the beginning of the book. Unlike most people the preface to her book took about 10 years to write. Wait till you see her performing in Norway. There's a couple of video's out already. One has her singing Bohemian Rhapsody and the other one has her singing I Have Nothing. Both at an outdoor Concert. Btw, tell me Rob Christie is not having the time of his life playing for Angelina. He's an executive at Republic Records and is a multi winner of Grammy Awards. No one has to tell him how special Angelina is.

And for a multi grammy award winning executive to have seen/perform with many many many talented singers in his lifetime, then in comes Angelina Jordan. Would love to interview him!

My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.

What she has done to this song is incredible, at first listen! Surely it can't get better every time you hear it, but it does! Thanks for sharing Debra; with you all the way.

There are two and maybe three things happening here. 1-The Elvis story of a difficult relationship, 2-The fact that she grew up immersed in the finest music of the 50's and 60's and she loves to be surrounded in that "vibe". 3- We are implicated here too, her sister and cousins are us, finding "awe" and wonder in the fine furniture and music of the past and Angelina's re-imagining of it. How much more bang can we get for the buck? XO

Angelina has always been wonderfully engaging, but now her voice gets warmer and deeper each time and her slower version of this iconic song is truly fantastic, for me much closer to the emotion of the lyrics than Elvis's version. Elvis released the cover of this song in 1969. He had a remarkably good voice, but Angelina made it her own, just like what she always does. I wish Republic would get her album out, already. She's good enough now. But, she's still not an adult and that decision is up to her family. They've done great for her so far.

Grandma Mary produced this. Looks like she used the same store she used for My Funny Valentine! Her sister Juliette was the older girl. The 2 younger girls were maybe her uncle Mike's kids? And, of course, Rob Christie on piano. What a great cover! I was not expecting this! Funny thing is, this was almost 4 minutes, but it flew by and felt short! Going to listen to it again! The guitar is like the one Elvis used to play with.

This arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt. She is a Master Storyteller. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. I was waiting for her to throw in a little shake to it in homage to the King. Could that have been intentional? That is Rob Christie on piano. Sister Juliette and a couple of Uncle Michael's Babies. Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Juliet sitting there she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day. Elvis' version is great and it always was, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own. When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 82 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched. The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammes), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers. The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister. 🙂

thank you Debra. I love your Angelina reactions. She made a master piece out of this famous Elvis song. I am big Elvis fan - but I have to confess that Angelina´s version is much better than his one. She just captured me once again with all the emotions she makes you feel with her music.

Angelina Jordan, the ultimate singer storyteller strikes again. As always, she pays tribute to the original artist (Elvis's versions were covers but Angelina was certainly paying her respects to Elvis). I have listened to the performance nearly 100 times already and it just keeps getting better.

The Cinemaphotography, a total MASTERPIECE. Great touch, the cousins and sister get a cameo. Mery, you should be so proud, AJ's grandma produced this. Excellent ART Cole McCarthy! (This red guitar is identical to the one Elvis played in his 1968 concert on TV.) Oh, the tears, and loss of breath, she is like no other in the universe. Here is a classic example of what this ethereal talent, Angelina Jordan, can achieve she takes a mundane song and turns it in to phenomenal classic. Angelina at 16 is the MASTER of her universe, she is top priority for both Stargate, and Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California. Rob has been playing the piano on most of AJ's studio production performances. This was filmed in the same place that she did “My funny valentine” at Melrose Gallery and Antiques in West Hollywood CA. There's a picture of (age about 1-2) baby Lisa Marie Presley on a golden couch like Angie's cousin sat on with a white dress. There was one of Lisa also (when she’s about 3) with white dress & she had curls like Angie’s other cousin Athena had (from her uncle Michael's kids). Plus it acted as a double for us watching Angie growing up. Her sister Juilette was the older one in the white dress like Angie was in when she was 12 before she changed at 13 & her & her mom Sara & grandma Mery made clothes for her performances. The black jumpsuit & red guitar is for the welcome back tour in 1968. The hair was for Priscilla his wife. Chandeliers, mirrors & furniture was for Graceland,the Piano player Rob Christie wearing red like Elvis band members & you'll even see that Angie's (Elvis stance) put her leg out & bent like Elvis did. Angelina did a lot of homework & paid a lot of respect & gave us a lot of Easter eggs & there’s still more. As she usually does on her videos. Angelina is fluent in Norwegian, English, Farsi, and Japanese. But her primary language is soulspeak. Her soul speaks to ours directly. I grew up in the house of a church organist (my mother) and after 68 years of listening to music, Angelina Jordan is the only singer that truly captivates my heart. She really did put a spell on me.

Deborah, I've seen a bunch of people react to this song already. Yours was the one I've been waiting for. I absolutely loved your reaction. You were spot on with everything you said. The song really was written for Angelina. Sure, Elvis had the hit with it, but IMO, Angelina sang it much better. Elvis over-sang the song and didn't convey half the emotion Angelina did. Angelina sang "I Have Nothing" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" in Norway on June 22. The videos are up on KZread. You'll really want to hear these live versions. Be well and keep pushing those boundaries!
