Survivorman | Grenada Jungle | Les Stroud

Ойын-сауық

Les pits his jungle survival skills against the incredibly diverse mountain jungle terrain of Grenada’s largest active mountain, Mt. St. Catherine. Nestled along the invisible line where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean, northeast of Venezuela, this island jungle feels mysterious, shrouded in mist, veiled from the sun by thick blankets of cloud. For this, the high-altitude jungle has earned the name “Cloud Forest”. Boasting its original ecosystem, the jungle is home to mona monkeys, tarantulas, scorpions, armadillo, iguana, parrots and possums -an abundance of food for Les if he can catch it. Les must use his years of jungle survival experience to avoid the many poisonous plants and trees indigenous to the jungle - all while carrying more than 50 pounds of camera gear on his back.

I'm 20 years old living in my own first apartment, and Survivorman is one of the few positive consistencies I've had ever since I was a child. Not only is it entertaining, but it's genuinely real, which is part of what's so entertaining about it. The older I get, the more I appreciate the nostalgia and the work you do. Thank you for keeping one of the last pieces of my childhood alive.

I am from Grenada. Its very nice to see my country being featured on your channel. This is how the locals catch crayfish. Chew coconut finely so its hard for them to pick up. Spit a small amount in the water. The crayfish will come out to eat the coconut then you catch them with the hook using a earth worm.

Cut a 2 liter coke bottle in half, flip the side around where you pour the coke and stick it inside the bottom half of the bottle and tape them together. Then drop some raw meat in the bottle and leave it in the water. The crawdads can go in the bottle to eat the meat and can't get out.

@@outlawgt3045 When I was in Oregon, a local taught me to take a forked stick and cut it so the two "tines" of the "fork" were very short. Then you pin the crawdad down by putting the stick just behind their head so they can't move or pinch you. Then grab it with your hand (very carefully, lol) and throw it in your bucket. It's so cool that crawdads are found all over the world and different people have figured out so many different ways to catch them. But, considering how delicious they are, I am not surprised!

Man vs Wild lost me, I think in Scotland, when Bear set himself up for the night. They stopped filming, loaded into their vehicles and went to a hotel. The next morning they came back to the location and resumed filming. The show may still have information and be entertaining, but he is NOT doing it. not too sure about that. i'm used to watching guys who go in with nothing, Survive That, Dual Survival, Matt Graham, Ed Stafford, Hazen Audel etc. i recently watched my first Survivorman episode (romania) and this chap went in more kitted out than a mid-sized DIY store... he had a lighter, matches, ferrell rod, alcohol stove, energy and protein bars, beef jerky, a full cook-set with 3 containers for water, sealable plastic and garbage bags, modern compass, he even had 3 different fleeces despite simulating someone "on a day hike". he walks about on some trails and then proceeds to trigger a GPS signal and just wait for the rescue team to come find him. at one point he even spends a good 10 minutes doing a tech keynote on his various recording methods and the captivating world of SD cards and batteries... not doubting he may know his stuff, but there was literally 0 demonstration of any primitive or bush craft skills, hunting, trapping, navigating or orienteering, shelter building, fire starting or anything else you'd expect from an expert demonstrating how to handle oneself in a survival situation...

Les you had so much influence on my life its mad. I can never get enough of your content I watched all the survivorman episodes growing up and being able to rewatch them (sometimes even with your lovely commentary) has brought me so much joy. You're amazing and as a fellow Ontario bum I hope I may be able to shake your hand someday and thank you. Without you I wouldve never gone on my first Portage trip in Algonquin that made me fall in love with the "back-country" and I would never be where I am now trying to plan a future career in the nature world.

ALso, best thing about Les, is that I feel he is really "knowable". I do feel that I could shake his hand, eat a meal with him, and I would know him. He is genuine. That is one of the best things that you can say about someone, in my opinion. Do you know what I mean, Evan?

10:22 That sounded like a machete chopping through a branch if I ever heard such a sound so clear. This may be the first time I've questioned if you are truly alone out there. Considering insurance and his production value, I never thought he was alone out there but truly I believe in my heart he is. Les Stroud is a legend and I believe he would need no help to survive in many if not all of these places. He's been a solid inspiration for me much of my life. I put him up there with Sir David Attenborough and Steve Irwin. Thanks for all that you do Les!!!

True story I lived in Grenada for a few months. Me and my buddy hiked the volcano summit and followed the wrong path that had been washed out about 3 km down trail so I we just walked towards the ocean it took us about 3 hours in Flippy flops . I'm just saying this place is easy mode and you there is food everywhere. Nothing even poisonous on the island.

Les is amazing. The Stevie Wonder of survival, if you will (with some serious musical chops as well!) I started watching his show over a decade ago and have watched them all countless times. Never gets old because it’s authentic. The amount of experience and work it takes to make it look this easy is to be admired. I knew this dude was authentic when he filmed himself crossing a glacier, which meant he also had to go back and get the camera!
