I REALLY liked this premiere. We got tons of camp life, as well as the all-important initial relationship building between the players on all three tribes. I had a feeling of who might be going on all three tribes, as well as an idea of who might bond later on in the game post-merge. Even if CBS cuts the regular runtime back to 60 minutes in the future, Survivor should NEVER go back to a 90-minute premiere.

Two hour premieres always feel more full. Especially when we get so little preseason content nowadays. Back in the day, we used to get over 5 minutes with each player talking about themselves and why they want to play Survivor. So this helps us get to know them legitimately.

Great show! I love the book analogy and studying for depth. When doing research you have to do more than binge. The Specialists perspective may take a different angle than RHAP's but both perspectives are valuable to learn the game, along with reading articles and listening to interviews. Sweet 😎

This is fair. Jelinsky didn't do anything harmful to anyone. Far cry from villains that used to burn socks and dump water.

I’m 28 and have watched Survivor since the beginning, and rewatched every season. There is something about watching an episode and being able to process the episode for a week that does give you a better understanding of the game. I have friends that have gotten into survivor more recently, and what they think is a great move I can explain why it might be a bad one at the same time.

Yeah, it's just the case with everything and it's not anyone's fault. But if you have to sit with something, then you have to think about it. And that will force you to evaluate it more clearly!

Tim’s edit was fine, and his comment was totally valid, literally every season in the new era it’s been episode 1 of a group of 3 of the women banding together. It’s such an obvious pattern.

Agree with Blake about Jelinsky I do however massively disagree with him on what he said about the Andy Griffith thing or the Soda radar thing “taking away from the interpersonal relationships” or now he “cant invite over a date to watch the show with me” huh? They’re 5-10 seconds of a little editing thing. Who cares? I thought they were both fairly clever/fun.

If Tevin goes on to win, that’s gotta be the most obvious episode 1 winner edit we’ve gotten in a looooong time. His 2 minute confessional describing the game in the cold open, I’m sitting there like, is this a producer talking about the show?!? Oh shit that’s a PLAYER

Jelinski was a “legendary” first boot. He was so confident despite the multiple mis-steps and continued trying to drag others under the bus with him, instead of just apologizing and pledging to do better. As was said it seems with this accelerated version first impressions are so important and Jelinski kept giving off negative impressions.

The fact that you guys think Tim is wrong for suspecting that the women of his tribe is trying to form an alliance and questioning his position in his tribe . You might be blind. Seperate any other season from this one and the fact is that the women formed the current alliance that we know about and roped in charlie. That is what we know as fact from episode 1

I would love to see Tim try to combat that, but idk if he’s gonna pull it off. We need to see more of greens dynamic, and if Jem/Maria becomes a threat too quick and they take one of them out instead of a guy. Or cut Moriah, cause what does she bring to the tribe?

This is a fair point! I just rewatched the episode and realized the problem wasn't what he was saying about the women but him saying that the women always take the men out when in the last seasons he saw before going on the island, the women got decimated early. You're definitely right though that they actually are threatening his game.

On another note I can see moriah as kind of an odd ball. One of her confessionals had some condescending music in the background

Tiffany really didn't have to worry THAT much about the idol. Initially I was irritated, but she only loses her vote if she decided to NOT take the idol. While she had to put in some effort to solve the clue to the location of the key (BTW, I think she would have CRUSHED the Savvy task), it wasn't like she had to hurry. She was solid with her group this round, and the longer her tribe goes without going to Tribal Council, the longer she would have had to solve that puzzle.

Fun episode. But what was up with that crossword puzzle? Who would’ve figured that out

No one! That thing was so hard. And, with the letters that were left over, you had to realize you were unscrambling three words. That's insane. Almost like production didn't want them to figure it out. Honestly, I'm okay with that.

I really enjoyed the premiere I thought it was really good and everyone on the cast seemed to get some relative content. Honestly Jelinski was a pretty great first boot. His downfall and mistakes time and time again were funny and I was honestly not gonna be surprised if he didn’t get voted off because of the physicality. My favorites are Bhanu, Hunter, Q, Tevin, Venus, and Tiffany so far.

I agree with Phil. The wit this episode worked perfectly for me as one of the oldest in Gen Z. Also, with anyone younger than me, you just have no clue what shows they grew up watching. If you can stream it, there’s a chance they’ve seen it.

Was this the easiest Savvy task ever? I figured out that they needed to unscramble the letters right away, and the position of some letters (the DIN in the upper right), and the OC near the K in the lower left) lent themselves to words. Since you had to "find" what you were missing, I made the connection between DIN and DIG. I saw a U and guessed UNDER, and the leftover letters got me LOCK right away.

It was easy. The 1st row & column spelled #s, so I just found all the #s, then looked at the letters not used & found “Under Lock”. Which my instinct was to look under/dig, without even seeing the word dig yet

Thank goodness that Jalinsky was the first boot. I would've been appalled if they didn't vote him out. With all due respect to him, possibly the worst and quickest flameout of any survivor player. My favorites this season are Q, Jess, Bhanu, Maria, Ben and Liz. Thus far, rooting for one of those six to win.

Danny McCray was robbed. Jelinsky was my winner pick which is embarrassing, but I also said he should be the 1st boot because he is A THREAT which is even more embarrassing 😮

I really do appreciate the apology. Don't be so hard on yourself. Just one of those things. I get it. Expectations didn't meet reality and that made you mad. It's understandable. I just try to keep it more impersonal with critiques. But it's all good. Blake is a big boy and he'll be fine. I just know how hard it is the first time you do one of these things, so it's never fun to be sitting there second guessing. We're all good! Enjoy the season!

The beginning of this episode of survivor was so boring, but it picked up near the end. Stop telling us about their lives. I do not care.

Unlike 45, this season was shot thinking it would be 1h and not 90min or 90 min instead of 2h so i am thinking they had to fill that 30 min with something and they décided to do it with background info on the castaways
