31:21 Izzy: “ We don’t have to keep harping on this” Brice: “We can!” I didn’t look at it that way. Thanks for shining light on that perspective.

I agree with Jack, the Q vs Venus debate isn’t a double standard especially in modern survivor. If anything someone of Q’s attributes acting the way he has would be off putting, but clearly Q has been endearing enough to have so many people like him and want to work with him. Where as Venus on the other hand has annoyed almost everyone even people like Randen and Moriah who did want work with her were turned off by her. I think this is all dependent on who you’re casted with. I’d argue if Q and Venus were on S45 They’d be in completely different spots.

I've also made the Q/Venus comparison before. Theyre both aggressive out in front self interested players. The difference imo is Q's charisma and ability to form more personal bonds with ppl whereas Venus is pure gamebot who only cares to talk game which might be why ppl don't think shes a good alliance member

It’s kinda hard to form bonds with people when they decide on day one that they hate you and think you’re a bad person. We saw Venus try to talk to Soda about stuff besides the game (when Hunter was looking for the idol) and Soda wasn’t having it because she knew other people didn’t like Venus.

I made a joke but it ended up being true that Q embodied his fallen Yanu members Jelinsky, Jess, and Bhanu combined in one episode! I heard from Tim's exit interview that they have not really shown how connected Hunter and Q are so I feel like that is the turmoil that Hunter was facing at tribal because he wasnt going to write either Q or Tevin even if it meant going against the majority. However why Hunter didnt want to let Tevin know or why he didnt end up protecting Tevin is yet to be explained but I do think Hunter relied on Tevin's social game a bit so I am wondering how Hunter is going to move on after this or if hes really sticking with Q.

Izzy wild with the take lol but I always say I believe it’s about who you’re playing with. Q is controlling the game and I believe he knows that him saying he wants to get voted out and not getting any votes showed it.

The main issue with the Q vs Venus comparison that Izzy and Brice tried to make is that we see that people actually don't think Q is the player that Izzy tried to make him as. We see him come in with people and be able to pull people in. We seen the opposite with Venus. We've seen in exit press with Soda and Tevin that Venus was hard to work with. We have not seen that with Q. Izzy might be annoyed by Q, but it did not seem like Tiff, Kenzie, and the group of 6 was annoyed by him / not want to work with him..

You’re literally proving the point Izzy is made. Q and Venus have the exact same personality and approach but the response isn’t the same. You’re comparing the response that Venus has to the way others react to her approach. They don’t react to Q the same way, and his approach is just as brash.

Really interesting discussion about bias, and I agree with points on both sides! I think it's interesting that in this case, I would definitely agree that Q is privileged in this situation and that people are heeding his opinion/more willing to work with him because he is a straight male, and Venus's voice is going unheard as a woman. But I could imagine in a lot of seasons, with a different cast, it would be the exact opposite. For instance, I've seen many situations when a white appearing female would definitely be more heard/not seen as aggressive when compared with a straight black male. Regardless, love this podcast! Thank you all for always having important/open discussions :)

Ok 1st off what configuration is needed to have Q or Venus win? I am think a Ben third seat. Then if Ben wins is it bitter jury or a Gabler? I think a Venus and Q final two would be Marvelous and only chance Venus has to win. 2nd I think Q using the intangibles like Hide n Seek is very much like ISSA LOOK. I think it is a cultural thing to an extent. Q, however, takes things to an extreme and put his his way or the highway mentality to the forefront. That just turns me off soo much when he could use his observation to see who is mailable instead of steam rolling the strong willed. Venus delivery is very "MOTHER" but still Tevin exit statement are valid and believable. I do want her to win but cant see a path with out Q. 3rd Still craving Jack survivor AU feedback!

Q hasn't been able to make any successfull hits tho. He tried to gun for Ben, but Tiff and Kenzie put a stop to that. Then he went for Tiff and Tevin when home. So how effective is his game?

28:21 It’s sad the way we justify looking down on someone so much just because we hear 4 other people don’t like them and they’re a “black sheep.” As the “black sheep” of my religious, homophobic family, it would break my heart if everyone jumped on their narrative of me and contributed to my isolation without knowing me first. You don’t have to adore Venus or want to hang out with her to understand that it’s problematic to see her behavior differently than someone else’s simply because of her appearance or what others say about her. Anyone who doesn’t tolerate BS will become the black sheep of their community first.

I’m going to be respectful because I love everyone here but kinda felt a little bit unfair for Bryce and Izzy to basically team up against jack and make him feel like his opinion isn’t valid because their perspectives are morally correct. Love everyone but wish we allowed for more nuance in the arguments especially complicated race and social arguments rather than just declaring a correct position morally

28:41 It’s so triggering watching Brice and Izzy have to explain gender bias to a straight man and him saying basically saying “nah, I don’t see it” 😩 Like, we know you don’t see it; you’re proving the very point you’re missing, love. 😢

This is actually a wild comment because multiple times I acknowledge that it does exist and that I do see it, but that I don’t think this is the best example to demonstrate this argument. I think that using a bad example like this actually undercuts the legitimacy of the actual examples of gender/other biases. I understand it’s a delicate subject and not my place as a straight white man to be the most outspoken on, but as an ally I feel like it takes away credit from the more legitimate examples that are worth pushing back on to attribute the Venus and Q differences primarily to gender biases when I think there’s much more at play
