“We had time to escape because he was shooting someone else”. What an horrific chilling sentence. I can’t fathom the horror and sorrow these young people are going through.

Very heartbreaking that young people especially were put in such fear for their lives, and yet showed such courage and tenacity in their beliefs then and everyday since, a tribute to all survivors. Many thanks.....

​@National Christian Front I wouldn't really say that going to an isolated island with defenseless kids while impersonating as a cop and massacring them is a particularly divine cause - and all that for a difference in political views. He could have done a real good cause to promote humanity and gone to the parts of the world where real and actual horror are inflicted upon human populations in systematic ways through acts of rape, execution and kidnapping in mass numbers and risked his life to end these atrocities. Instead, the guy decided to be a part of the problem and imported the destructive behaviour that he so fervently did not want to take root in Europe. Not really the most reflected individual Mother Earth has ever produced.

One thing that is really sad is that basicly everything that could go wrong that day went wrong. It was really bad comunication between the police, they went to the wrong place etc. Filming helicopters came way before the police. A boss(?) was too focused on an "important" phone call so didn't read a letter that said something about a suspicious man driving to Utøya(or something like that) so he could have been caught before he came to the island...

Someone actually called and tipsed the police about a man driving off in a grey van, but the police said it was a too general of a description to bother using resources on it. Inside that van was Breivik driving towards Utøya right after the explosion. So much could've been prevented if they just took that phone call seriously.

I watched the film 22nd July. Whether a good portrayal or not, it showed the courage of the young people caught up in this madness. It showed the failure of a little man with no friends and no future. I wish Vilger Hansen and every one of the survivors good luck. I urge them to go on, do well and prove that no matter the challenges the far right try to throw at society, the normal populace will prevail and will survive. I have read that Anders Breivik has since complained about his solitary confinement. I feel he should be grateful. that he is even allowed that. His life is meaningless and therefore a waste of good resources. Thank you for uploading this update.

I was 5 years when this tragedy happened and I can remember my family talking about it. I knew something was wrong but they wouldn't tell me what was going on. I also overheard that my cousin lost her friend there and I wanted to know so badly what was going on. Today I am 15 years old and just watched utøya and I can't believe this has happened. I can't imagine 15 yearold's being there running, swimming and hiding for their life. All my love goes out to the people who has been affected by 22. july.

I can't believe it's been ten years since this happened. I remember when it happened. Time flies.

Ms. Gunaratnam I appreciate your sincerity in speaking peace and understanding despite your experience. This is what I am seeking to teach my students. We have to talk about the hard things like violence, hatred, inequality or our silence reproduces them. Understanding and compassion, willingness to understand the unimaginable is the only way to stop the hate and division. Its a struggle in my country as well as we become more and more polarized. Viljar Hanssen is the main character in the movie 22nd July on Netflix. I've watched it several times.

Viljar is an incredible man. It is not a coincidence he survived these 5 shots. Probably, no one else would have. Respect to everyone who was involved in this shocking and heartbreaking tragedy.

This story is so heartbreaking, yet so inspiring. These young people are Norway's and the world's future. We need more people like Viljar, Kamzy and Greta Thunberg.

I can’t imagine what happened to you, that you think murdering children will protect you from some threat, that doesn’t necessarily exist. 1:34 wow, he could hear not only that it was shooting, but also that it was a glock. Which it was, Anders Behring Breivik used a glock 34 and also ruger mini 14, but right there he used the glock.

It does become a part of you. I was surrounded by a Universe of Look-Alike Stalkers, in a World of Crime, not knowing what I was involved in. It defines you.

You are strong and brave and having the courage to do what must be done. You know what you had to do and that is what saved your life. I have almost died 2 so I know what it's like to feel like you're going to die and if it won't for me keeping my self together and staying strong . To really control your feelings mental and physically and emotionally. If you can't keep it to gether if I won't have I would have died. It is also IMPORTANT to control your feelings mental physically to be strong for others. That are around you the most IMPORTANT thing to never give up no matter what the obstacle is. You always find away to survive.

The water was actually insanely freezing. Norwegian water at summer is about 10-15 Celsius at summer.

would be better if it was in the winter, beause of that being a summercamp so noone would've been there, im not saying anything good happened that day cus only the oppsite did and us norwegians still mourn over the loss of everyone that day

Anyone knows if Vilijar removed the rest of bullets fragments from his brain? I remember his doctor said he has to be carefully cuz the fragments could move inside his brain and a surgery would be possible if the fragments move further out of the brain stem...

I was at Utoya today. Really sad to be there as one of the buildings he shot in you could see Hole in the door and walls etc. That’s the ONLY Physical evidence left of the attack

As an American, who is sadly all too accustomed to frequent mass shootings, I was in total shock to see that this horrible incident happened in Norway. We here in the United States view Norway, as a beautiful country, with quiet,peaceful people..NEVER would this act of terror be on the radar screen for Norway. I was transfixed to the television, watching this horrible news of the terrorist attack in Norway,it seemed so impossible that this evil would / could ever tarnish and wound Norwegian life. I am so heartbroken that this evil violence came to your beautiful people.

After i watched the movie im not gonna lie i was a bit broken inside. Been still... What i want to say is that when it comes to kids, teenagers etc we can not act like its something normal. This man killed so many innocent kids, he was sick... And what was the panishment? 21 years... This person will come back in 10 years but THOSE kids who tragically died wont. We are so naive in Norway we think we can sit around a campfire and sing kumbaya and nothing bad will happen. Our biggest and most naive mistake that we need to learn from is that horrific massmurders can happen anywhere not just in the movies or in the Us etc. Why didnt anyone have a gun at utøya.? I will tell you why because we believed that nothing bad will happen at a youth camp especially in" calm and peaceful Norway" I am 100% convinced that had this horrific tragedy happened in the Us there would not have as many people dead. Because in difference to naive Norway in the The Us all safety precautions are taken to make sure that kids are safe you would have armed guards that could protect the kids. Thats why 77 people needlessly died because there was no one to defend them. Had someone had a weapon they terrorist could have been neutralized. In many ways this horrific tragedy happened to extent it did because. 77 people died because sadly In Norway we are too naive and soft to believe in guns as protection. It doesnt stop there the police task force that came out to the island didnt even have a proper boat or helicopter. None of this would have happened in any Us state. We can say what we want about the Us , but if there is any country i would feel safe at youthcamp it would be there one because you have armed guards , two when the police come they come and more importantly with the proper equipment and tools for the task at hand. Not like the amaturs in my country Norway. In the Us the terrorist would have gotten the sentence he deserves not the soft on crime policy sentences we Have in Norway. The Norwegian Justice system is a joke.

You might be right thinking that in the weapponized US there would be a smaller number of victims at such an event. Just because some of the campers would have respondend with weappons themselves. But in the US you have exactely the opposite problem - everybody can get a weappon and the result is, innocent people get killed. Norway might not be the same after this act of terrorism, but a peaceful civil life is a precious advantage. I would not agree with you that - regarding conflicts of violence - Norway is naive. Take a look what a strong and capable military this little (by the size of her population) country has.

The police was in downtown Oslo after the explosion. They weren’t aware that Anders was on his way to the island to shoot. The police department sent almost all their police to the place the bombing had happened so they were unable to get to the island fast enough plus when police were finally on their way they took the wrong route that was longer due to not being sure exactly where the island was located if I’m not wrong. Also they had trouble getting from the mainland to the island. I think most of what could have gone wrong that day went wrong when it comes to emergency help because no one was prepared for anything like that to happen in Norway. That incident changed how we deal with things like that from now on so we can be more prepared if something similar were to ever happen again.

Can't stop thinking about how many people that will be arrested, days after Anders Behring Breivik get out of prison. That is really sad
